Very cute boots but the foot portion was too narrow and tight.

I returned these as the top was to tight even though they were wide calf. The calf area was fine but the top of the boot was so tight in cut the circulation in my leg. I don't really have a wide calf either.

These boots are very nice - but they fit me kind of funny. The calf is extended, but it is still very snug and I am not a large person - I would say very average sized. They fit large in the heel, but I didn't send them back to get a smaller size because I was worried I wouldn't be able to get a smaller boot off of my foot. I like them, but for the price, am a bit disappointed.

This is a great quality boot. I, however am 5ft tall and have very muscular calves. There was no way these were going to fit over even a pair of leggings. When I think of "wide calf" I would think of a 17" circumference. I'm extremely disappointed and will be returning them.

I loved these boots but found the width around the calves was made for people with smaller calf muscles. They fit without jeans, but I couldn't even get leggings inside of them.

I would have given these boots 5 stars - easily! They are beautiful and so well-made. But I had to return them because they were too snug. They fit, but they were choking my calves and didn't look right. It's really too bad. I don't have huge calves but I need a wide calf boot to be comfortable and these simply aren't wide enough. I love them, though.

The built is true to fryes great work. However, because there is no structure to the shaft of the boot it begins to slouch. I personally do not like it at all. I feel as if I didn't get what I thought I would be getting or advertised as such. None of my other fryes have zippers and have aged as I was told and shown. If you want a boot to not slouch overtime get one with a zipper (Phillip harness tall. Melissa backzip, or maybe harness because they are so structured). It just looks like a COMPLETELY different boot after two seasons :/

Beautiful boot, but unwearable if you don't have thin calves. I started out with the regular shaft version of the Melissa button boot and found the top just a little too tight. (Muffin-top calf, sigh.) I had high hopes for the wide calf version but the shaft was even tighter at the top with bunching of leather at the ankles. The footbeds - size 9.5 were fine. I have had a pair of Frye Veronica slouch boots for several years and they fit perfectly. The buckle at the top allows for some adjustment in size at the top of the calf and I wear these over jeans without difficulty. They have also been very comfortable for walking.

I've been debating buying these for months but i will unfortunately have to return them. I found the same as other reviewers-- the "extended" calf is not particularly extended, but it still fit which was ok... the problem is that around the ankle, it was too baggy- the leather was sagging and baggy and it felt too lose and unsupportive. I'm between a 7 1/2-8 and I ordered down since Frye boots seem to run big, but my foot was still slipping all over inside- esp in the heel area. I think Frye boots are just not the right match for me! Like another reviewer wrote, I have had great success with J. Crew's extended calf boots. they fit nicely and I suggest checking out what they've got now.
I'd also recommend:

I am a little disappointed with the quality! The leather is not very soft and the pull tabs don't match. The boots run narrow and tight.

I have tried a few different pair of the same size 6.5. Each pair feels differently. I wonder why. The sizing is definitely not consistent. The comfort for is really thumbs up. Very comfortable and stylish.

Beautiful boots but they don't fit me well. My calf is 15 1/2 and I ordered size 8. I can get the boots on but they sag in the ankles (because of the tight fit in the calf). I've seen other people in these boots and they look great. The saggy ankle fit isn't the look I'm going for so I'm sending them back. I may try to buy a half size up and see if it fixed the calf tightness problem. Bummer! I got a pair of Melissa Button Back Zip and they fit and don't sag.

This boot is super cute. I have athletic calves because I was a gymnast (15.5 inches) and ordered a 9 for a bit more room because some idiot shoe designer decided that somehow calf circumference correlates to foot size(I am normally an 8). I also wanted to have room for insoles. These boots do not currently fit my calves but I plan to have them stretched or have a small elastic gusset put in so that I can wear them. They also are not the same circumference on both sides. The right boot is much larger than the left. Hopefully my shoe repair man can fix this because I desperately need a pair of boots in this style. They are very cute and are a great color. I like that they don't have a zipper because the zippered boots tend to get wrinkly and fall down if you have large calves and small ankles. If you have large calves, you may need to have them stretched or altered so that you can fit into them.

My calves measure 16 inches exactly. I normal wear a 9.5 in most brands, but have large insteps that require me to order a size 10 in boots when there is not a zip. So I ordered these in a 10. I could get my foot into the boot past the instep, but couldn't pull the boot shaft all the way up because the calf was too small. I also ordered the Jane 14L extended boots in the size 10, and the calf on those were perfect. So if the Melissa Boot Extended is too tight, you still have hope with the Jane 14L extended. Luckily I like the style of the Jane better anyway. The Melissa was shinier and thinner leather than I hoped. Looked less like a Frye brand boot and more like something you could get at any chain shoe store.

I agree with the reviewer who mentioned the odd shape of the extended-calf boot. The calf part is wider, but it goes back in at the very top which gives it a weird shape: baggy with a tight top. I ordered these because I wanted a little more room to tuck in jeans than the regular Frye Melissa Button allowed, but the narrow top opening felt no wider than the regular boot, and the shape of the regular Melissa is more attractive. They are incredibly comfortable though!

Thought the extended calf version would work for me (15 1/2"), but no luck. Had previously bought a pair of extended calf Frye's that were perfect even with skinny jeans, but this style much different. Too bad because they are beautiful!

After lusting after this and one other Frye boot for about a year, I finally gave in & ordered the Melissa Button in both the regular & extended calf size (hedging my bets with my 15" muscular calves). They both fit, but the extended calf was obviously a little more generous & I felt I would have been able to comfortably wear skinny jeans or leggings with it more easily. The footbed of both were extremely comfortable & true-to-size; nowadays, post-pregnancies, I wear about a 1/2 size larger than before so the 9.5 was spot-on - snug at the widest point of my foot while allowing my heel to lift a bit while walking. The drawback - I'm 5'8" & these pretty little things are shorter than I wanted!! I want a black pair of knee-high boots & these left a generous 3-4" or so of bare leg beneath the knee!!! WAAAAAH One more thing that I didn't realize when I ordered these is that the front dips down in a V like a true Western boot - this added to the overall "short" look of the boot, dashing my dreams of beautiful Melissa boots. So back they've gone & I've narrowed my search to taller boots!!

I received the extended calf boots in black and they definitely were not extended calf. If you actually need extended calf boots, I recommend going for a different pair. These barely went over my calf and were tight enough that I am unable to wait for them to stretch. Very disappointing since I am a fan of Frye and have other pairs of their shoes.

I wear a 5.5 or 6 in most shoes. I sized up in these and ordered a 6.5 and I still could not get my foot in them. Also, I have never needed extended calf, but bought these in extended, planning on having more room. I could not even get these on!

I really wanted to love these boots. I had purchased a pair in the same size last fall that felt perfect. Those boots were given to my daughter, who loves them. This time the toe box was painfully tight. So, I will be returning these.

Sending back for a third time as the leather appears to look like patchwork and did not match regarding leather type. The front appeared distressed and a potion appeared smooth. Beautiful style, I just wish the leather matched.

Beautiful boot. These were considered defective as it appeared to have a small cut in the leather. I was very sad to send back.

These boots are definitely not for people with larger calves. I am a pretty small person at 116 pounds, but my calves just happen to be pretty muscular. They are about 15 inches around at the largest point. I usually have pretty good luck with wide calf boots, but these are not really wide calf. I was pretty disappointed because I have wanted to try Frye boots for awhile now. Returned...

I'm 5'1 and 140 pounds, so not a large woman by any means. However, I played soccer for most of my life and still run a lot. I have decently athletic calves, so I ordered these in a wide fit. These are NOT wide. They are more narrow than many other non-wide boots I have tried on. I was super disappointed these were so narrow. If you have even an inclining that your calves are wide, they 100% will NOT fit. I measured my calves after this and I have 15.5" calves - these say they're 16" but they must have been measured on a different planet.

I am very active and have decently muscled calves. Not huge, but not scrawny skinny. I can normally fit into a normal size calf, but wanted to go with the wide calf for a little extra room with my jeans to tuck in. I COULDN'T EVEN GET THESE PAST MY ANKLES! I mean the calf is smaller than all my normal sized calf boots. Very disappointing. I will have to return these boots because I'm afraid no amount of stretching will make them big enough.
