I was so excited that these beautiful boots came with a wide calf. When I got them the calf fit fine, but the foot was so narrow that my toes went numb when I wore them around my house to try them out, so I had to return them. My feet and calves aren't incredibly wide, just wide enough that some boots/shoes don't work, so I assumed a wide calf would be perfect. Sad they didn't work.

I bought this version of the Melissa button boots because I've been having trouble with my calfs fitting into boots this year. I'm not big at all and I even run religiously so my calfs are not enormous or anything but thought maybe the calf would give me the desired look. However when I received them I could barely fit them over my calf and they looked horrible. The boot was flimsy and wrinkled and the ankle looked like it was at least 4 inch too wide for my ankle. It was like the added circumference was only added at the ankle! This isn't my first paid of frye boots either. I also have the normal calf size Paige tall riding boot which fits perfectly. Needless to say I was not impressed and the boots were not wide calf, more like wide ankle.

I bought these and after a few months the sole split from the leather, definitely are not up for everyday wear and tear, but they look good. Would not spend money on Fryes again at this level after my experience

I tried these one in a store and they were not the extended calf version. I was hoping that these would have more room, but unfortunately they fit exactly the same. Too tight on the calves, no way to fit jeans inside or even leggings.

I wanted to love these boots. I've been coveting Frye boots for many moons and was thrilled to find that they now had extended calf sizes and when I went to purchase, they were even on sale! But then I received the boots and tried them on and my excitement quickly turned to distress as I could barely get the boots on over my calf. These are by no means "extended" calf sizes. They are normal sized for calves. I am so happy that I ordered these online and was able to try on in the privacy of my own home. Trying these on in public would have been horrific. I really wanted to love these, but 15.25 inches is not what I would ever consider "extended" even after a stretching service...

Unfortunately, I have to agree with many of the other reviewers that these are not truly extended calf boots. My calves are exactly 16" and while the widest part of the boot fit, the very top of the boot is actually only 15 inches. I measured with a measuring tape to make sure I wasn't totally crazy. This would be fine if the boot were longer and the tapered top aligned with the top of my calf but it only pinches the widest part of my calf so they have to go back. I'm 5'5" and wear a size 6 or 8, I just happen to have strong, athletic calves. These are on par with most regular calf boots and they shouldn't be given the "extended calf" label.

I was expecting these boots to be more distressed but unfortunately they are quite a bit shinier than I had thought. To me, it gives them a cheap appearance.

These were beautiful and a good height, but really narrow. I could get them on, though they were tight around my calves. I couldn't have possibly worn them with anything other than tights. Since the Veronica Slouch style fit just fine on my calves (in fact, were quite loose) I assumed these would be ok. My calves are 15.5 inches, and these say they are 16 inches in circumference. They were definitely narrower however (I ordered size 7). I am very disappointed.

I was so excited about these boots when I bought them on sale. I thought they were such a steal at this cost, but was I ever wrong! DO NOT BOTHER. Especially at the marked price. After 1 winter of wearing these boots 3-4 times a week, both soles need to be replaced as well at the inner lining of one of them and I already have a hole in one sole. I am very careful in these boots because the leather scratches TOO easily and the layer of material over the heel is constantly peeling off. All of this damage, from wearing these boots 3-4 times a week to college? Ridiculous. Don't waste your money. Also because there is no zipper and you have to slide these boots on and off, they started slouch around the heel after the 3rd time I wore them. I'm constantly getting a foot stuck in one of them and I always need my boyfriend to help me get out of them. I can't believe I convinced myself to buy these boots. I will never buy Frye again.

I'm so disappointed. I wanted to love these boots. However, they are so slippery that I nearly killed myself just walking around on a rug with them. I read some other reviews and not many people mentioned this. I live in New England, so if I can't even walk around indoors with these things I'll break my neck when we get any bad weather. I'm deciding whether to take them to a cobbler, but for this price it was a real bummer.

Extended calf? Not quite. The same circumference as most boots I've tried. Nothing extended here. Additionally, noticed quite a few marks and nicks in the leather. Not worth the price! The boots are going directly back to Zappos!

Fundamentally, these boots did not fit well. The regular-calf style of Frye runs 1/2 size small. I sized a half size up and yet still found that the regular shaft oddly pinches in at the top -- other reviewers have commented on this as well -- it's not comfortable and it's also not flattering. I have average calves so this boot will only work for those with stick-skinny calves. In the extended shaft, the issues are the same, but the pinch-in at the top is worse in that it causes a really unflattering pucker/dart right at the top along the back seam.

Bought these and they are absolutely gorgeous. They fit true to size but I don't get how they're extended calf. I tried a black pair on at the store and they fit perfectly. Ordered them online and couldn't even pull them all the way up over my calf. Outside of the boot measured 15in. I really wish they were just an inch bigger because I absolutely love them. Unfortunately I'll be sending them back.

I really wanted a nice flat boot to wear with both business and casual clothing. This boot is beautiful, but I have a high instep, skinny ankles, and skinny calves. The high instep prevented me from getting my foot into the boot at all.

While these are extremely nice boots (i.e., well crafted, smooth leather, true to size) they should/do not qualify as "extended" calf in any way. I took a gamble based on the differing reviews, but in hindsight wish I had listened to all the ladies with athletic calves who indicated these boots did not work. I am a true 8.5 (not sure what calf circumference is, but am guessing 15) and while I was able to get these on over leggings and jeans they were super tight - not an smidge to spare - and made the pants/leggings "bunch" at the top of the boot. I also concur with other reviews that indicate saggy ankles etc. Frye should not categorize these as extended calf, as that description is a true misnomer. Sorry to see these go, as they are super sophisticated and exactly the type of boot I was looking for. I am trying the Frye Jane L extended calf in their place. Wish me luck!

Alas, my superhuman 18" calves had no chance of fitting into this boot. These are gorgeous and exactly what I was looking for, but my search must continue and they must go back.

I bought these boots but had to return them. They felt like a full size bigger. I have a wider calf and wide feet but these were not made to the standards I thought I would get for the price I paid. I bought a pair of Etienne Aigner boots last year with the extended calf size and they were a quality pair of boots.
