FINALLY a stylish snow boot that will fit my calves!! I live in New England and don t own a car-- I commute every day, on foot, about 1.5 miles each way. Streets get cleared right away, but sidewalks don't. I need a boot that is WARM and WATERPROOF. And, I would like them to look decent when I get to my destination. This boot definitely fits the bill. Warmth: Today the windchill was -5F (temp 10F), and with mid-weight Smartwool socks, my feet were hot when I arrived at work today. This is exciting, because my feet are always cold! I am definitely warm while wearing these indoors all day. If I didn t have cold feet, I would need to bring something to change into. Waterproofing: On first inspection, they appear to be well made and truly waterproof. There's no snow for me to test them, but I will update this if I find they are not fully waterproof. Usually, zippers will let in water, but these have a rubberized panel inside the zipper. It does mean that I have to be careful not to zip it into the zipper, but that is a small price to pay for real waterproofing. Good traction for ice. Fit: I have small feet and, apparently, large calves; boots are always a challenge. The adjustable ties on the front are great! I put on jeans, zipped the boots, and cinched them to fit; now I just use the zippers to get in and out. They will definitely accommodate larger calves than mine, with jeans. The height is perfect; I am 5'3" and they hit about 3.5 inches below the center of my knee (in the front). They are lower in the back, and that black panel is completely stretchy so the boots fit snugly at the top. If you are worried about the height, know that there is almost an inch height difference between the size 6 and the 7, so it will depend on your size. I wear a 6, and usually a 6.5-7 in snow boots or running shoes, but the 6 was better than the 7. I can't wear sock liners and thick socks with them, but they are so warm that I won't need to. Comfort/Style: They are surprisingly comfortable for walking, which is unusual in a winter boot. Not much flex in the sole, of course, but plenty of support underfoot. The grey is a great color, I tend toward black but these are dark enough to still look good with black jeans/leggings. They are obviously a little bulky, but that's to be expected in a true winter boot-- this is not a fashion boot with some fake fur trim on top to look cute.

I grew up in the Upper Midwest and currently live in New England, so I know a thing or two about boots. These are the best winter boots I've ever owned. First, they are super comfortable - the soles are like wearing sneakers, yet you get good traction in bad weather. Second, they are seriously tall and wide, to the point where they are probably too big for people closer to the 5' mark. But for a tall gal like me with big calves and big, wide feet, they are great. Their size also means that you won't have any problems tucking your pants into them. Third, for serious snowboots they aren't bad looking - you won't want to wear them to the club, but you won't feel resigned to wearing them when the weather sucks either. Finally, they hold up in a variety of terrible conditions. I was able to stomp through 18" snowdrifts, and then stomp through the giant puddles of dirty slush when the snow started melting a few days later - and both times, my feet stayed dry and warm. On the latter point, the height of the boots really comes in handy when it is slushy, as you won't get dirty wet spatter on the backs of your pants. If these boots have any flaws, I'd say it is 1) the fabric inside the zipper, although handy for keeping your legs dry, can catch sometimes, and 2) these will not have a slimming effect on your calves. They are also too warm to wear all day indoors. But you can't beat these boots for stomping around in bad weather, and they are some of the very few women's boots on the market that fit well in large sizes (I'm an 11).

I am currently working on a military base in the middle east and I wear these boots to work almost every day. The base is cold and covered in gravel and my Baffins keep me warm and comfy through the long days. They look great with everything - I usually wear them with skinny jeans or other fitted pants that I tuck into the boots. I love these. They're on the chunky side, so if you're looking for sleek they might not fit your bill. However if what you want is a durable, stylish, all weather boot that looks chic - go for it. They rock!

This boot is awesome for large calves and are flattering as well! I love this boot; I originally ordered tall Uggs, but although they were super cute, they stopped right at the largest portion of my calf which made them unflattering; therefore I returned them. I decided to order these because they were taller than the Uggs and they also had a stretch panel on the back to accommodate large calves (mine are 16" and these boots fit perfectly). Highly recommend!

Bought this boot last year for a trip to Brice & Zion temperatures were below 0 and my feet were warm and dry. They were wonderful on ice as I watched my husband slip and worry about me; it was I who helped him out. This year we went to Moab, Ute. Again the temperatures were 14 and once more they were the best boots I ever owned.

Beautiful, comfortable boots. That said, they are more appropriate for a 16" calf than my 13" one. When I pulled the laces snug on my calf there was 2-3 extra inches bunched up and no amount of rearranging could make them look like they fit. Too bad, back they go.

I first purchased these boots in November 2013. I live in Anchorage, Alaska and wear them October to March on my drive to work and also on my lunch walk (1-2 miles) 4-5 days a week. The boots are very comfortable and I love that they are waterproof! The sole is very grippy and I only add ice cleats when it's very icy out. I just ordered my second pair because the zippers are wearing out. Please note this is after three and a half winters of every day wear. The boots themselves are still in great condition. If you're looking for a pair of boots that look great, keep your feet warm, fit your calf, and you can wear all winter long to all kinds of events, these are the boots for you. I highly recommend them!

Love these boots! I was looking for an outside boot that would be warm in the Chicago winter, comfortable for walking in the city and fit OVER pants (no one likes salt stains at your hems) - while not looking like a lumberjack (really not my aesthetic). These fit the bill. I've been wearing them in snow and sub-zero temps for about 3 weeks and love them. The only thing that could be a little improved is the size of the ankle - a little too big - I'd like the to fit more snuggly there. Get these boots you won't regret it!

Oh, how I do love these boots! I tried on a zillion snow boots for this winter and every single one of them was too tight on my calf. (except a couple that were big enough but looked horrible) I'm fit and athletic but I had never considered my calf large. Apparently so, or boots now cater to skinny legs. I don't know, I only know my leg won't fit inside most boots comfortably. This boot is beautiful, fashionable and the legs adjust to any size you happen to be. And the great part. When you slide this boot on your feet you are standing completely stable. I was amazed at how balanced I felt when wearing these boots. It's truly fantastic, I don't think I've felt such balance and stability in any boot, ever. I am a half sized wide so I sized up a half size, they're plenty long enough but they could be a little wider, but what do I expect? I have a wide foot. This happens. I got the gray and it's a beautiful color and should be compatible with most all my winter attire. I love being outside and I've got to say these boots fit the bill. I've not been in soaking wet yet but in wet conditions they're great, they stay clean with just a brush and once again that stability factor just keeps winning me over. The Appalachian Trail runs through my town and these boots have done well on a few short hiking jaunts, too, back to that stability thing. These fabulous boots have beat out a previous favorite, Ugg Australia by a winding, walking country mile. The comfort level is competitive with my Columbia and Uggs in every way! And they're warm! I love these boots and I now love all things Baffin.

I normally wear 8-8.5 and the 8 was too snug. The 9 is perfect with a winter sock. The boot looks much better in person and on. Has a side zipper so the generous laces can be adjusted tighter or loose. The shaft is pretty wide so you can tuck in anything. Even with jeans tucked in it's loose but I like how it looks; the comfort seems great, though I have not worn them around yet. The dark gray color is chic, and they seem well made. I was hoping they were made in Canada, but no. I like it, can't wait for cold weather! As usual, Zappos customer service is the best.

I was really excited for these boots. Getting right to the point, I am usually a solid 8 but as soon as I put my foot in the right shoe my toe hit the end. Maybe because it is curved a little. Otherwise they were cute boots, the black is all black suede-looking (I was not expecting that for some reason) and then the top back has a nice stretchy material. I am 5'2" and the front was about an inch or two from my knee so I am not going to try the next size up because it may be too high. I am going to order the Iceland boot next and see if that works!

Gray...not so much. I actually had to look twice to see if I'd accidentally ordered "black" and "not so black, but still black." These are really very comfortable, and very tall. I'd agree with the reviewers who say these shoes are great for those of us with "half-size" feet; I wear an 8.5, I bought the 9, it's a tad big, but perfect for wearing thicker winter socks. But the color shown on the monitor for these is not even close to the actual dark dark gray color of the boot.

Shoes looked great with ample calf size, warm and very tall--Unfortunately have to return because the length of the foot was way to small for my usual size. Will reorder in a larger size.

These are the WARMEST boots I've EVER owned! My feet are cold pretty much all the time, but when I wear these with a warm pair of Smartwool socks my feet are actually hot, which has never happened to me before. I haven't tested them out in wet weather or snow, but I have no doubt they will stand up to the challenge. The sole is very thick and unflexible which can make walking a little funny-feeling at first, but you get used to it quickly. Since they are a snow boot they aren't necessarily super stylish, but for snow boot they aren't bad! Highly recommend! Cold feet be gone!

Almost Perfect Urban Snowboot. These boots are great for navigating ice, snow, slush, especially stepping over heaps of shoveled piles at crosswalks and in front of your car door. They're very warm and reasonably stylish. The styling around the foot makes it look enormous and the top of the boot around the need could be streamlined. The side zip makes it easy to get them on and off; the laces are mostly for show. They don't seem to tighten the boot around my calf much.

Absolute love! I started out with the Sorel Trivoli but the back of the boot dug my achilles tendon bad. After exchanging the Sorels for the Baffin Madelines my feet love me again! Much warmer and definitely more room for heavier socks if needed. I used to be a diehard Sorel fan but after my last two pairs of Baffins purchased I think I've converted.

I absolutely love these boots! They are super cute and completely functional - easy to walk/hike, lightweight and keep you warm and dry. I have two dogs who get two walks a day, everyday. At the end of crazy New Jersey winter in 2015 - and wearing the heck out of them - the zipper broke. I was so bummed! Zappos being as awesome as it is refunded my money. I am now on my second pair of Baffin Madeleines. I had them in brown last year and got the grey ones this year. I cannot say enough good things!

Best boots I've ever owned -10 degree weather to 35 degrees and they felt great also walk through water with them get & I walked in snow with them. The tread on the bottom of the boat was great for the ice snow and water only run into a problem with clay getting in them and then I had to clean them out!

I wanted a lace up boot but needed a zipper too, oh, and one that does not have much of a heel. I have a hard time finding shoes/boots to fit and look good on my size 11 (I know!) feet. I also needed a water proof boot that didn't look like waders. I wanted a boot to walk in town and not in the mud. I wish I could have a smooth leather ( these are suede) but those are not waterproof and would be trashed with the use I have in mind. So, these were a good match! They fit nicely, look great and feel really comfortable too. I do notice the back heel ridge that some people mention but it does not bother my feet. They are really warm so I will need to wait for the cold damp weather of Oregon to really test them out. I also received the Merrell boot that was somewhat similar but I liked these better.

Very cute boots! The brown is rich and warm. The suede looks great, but the strap of my YakTrax left a mark over the toe, so be aware if this concerns you. They run a little bit big. I usually wear a 9 and that's what I ordered, but I probably could have fit into an 8.5. I love that they have a zipper for easy on/off and a lace-up, so for once I have boots that actually hug my skinny calves. I wish the boot was a little stiffer around the ankle; the leather kind of puffs out a little bit there, and I think this will increase with use. All in all, though, a really nice boot at a good price!

I hate to return these great boots, but here's what happened: out of the box the left zipper stuck, after the 3rd pull, halfway up/halfway down (not because of a wad of jeans, which I'd pushed inside--jeans folded to the outside, not inside). After trying every gentle angle to unstick the zipper, then not so gentle, still no go, even with trying to unzip against my finger to smooth out the neoprene zipper flap. Panic set in. Boot was too tall to just slip off. Contemplated cutting the zipper flap but then I couldn't return...nobody home to help...finally, somehow, for some reason it let go and I got the boot off. With these boots, whereby you have to insert your leg into what is really a tube (the neoprene zipper flap runs toe to top, and is attached to the zippers' sides--good cold protection, but effectively makes these boots pull-ons), I didn't then trust them, even after 3-4 more try-ons. Plus the boot bends oddly at the left ankle area, up against my tendon in the back, even after the 4th walk-around. That would drive me crazy if I kept them. That, plus not trusting the zipper, made my decision to return. As well, I wanted a boot into which I could stuff my everyday jeans. Can do with these--except when you insert your foot and leg into this tube, jeans ride up and have to be crammed back down. I got them as far as mid-shin. So while the boots are wide enough to accommodate jeans inside--they will bunch up at your knees every time. I have hip issues, and can't "get down there" to yank off; yes I watched the video, which showed the neoprene zipper flap, but I guess it just didn't register that these would be *very* tall pull-ons. Positives: boots are really really warm; well-constructed (except for the zipper--on repeated visual inspection, *nothing* wrong with it!), roomy, very comfortable, quite stylish, waterproof, and tough. I'm a size 9 medium shoe, these were 9 mediums, so true to size with thin-medium socks. I don't think you'd need thick socks, plenty warm already. Nothing else hurt walking except the left ankle/tendon, probably because boot is so tall (hit me just below kneecap, I'm 5'7"). Wanted a roomy boot to accommodate jeans/pants inside because I don't do skinny jeans or tights anymore. The elastic laces can be tightened if necessary. But you have to trust your boots, and unfortunately paranoia has set in. Very much appreciate Zappo's return policy.

Very attractive, roomy in the front of the foot, seem to be very warm. I purchased a size 8. I may not be a true 8, I wore 7 thru most of my adult life, but switched to 8 as my feet got wider as I aged. I need a boot that's roomy in the front, and these are. I bought some gel inserts to make them feel softer to walk in, and a little more snug, without being tight. A plus to have lace ties AND a zipper. Once you set the laces to fit your leg/foot, you can just unzip and zip from then on. I've worn them with thin socks and left them on all day at work. They get a little too warm after a while, but I was able to get through the day. I have not tested them in the snow (no snow yet this year) but they seem pretty thick and sturdy, so I have high hopes. Although they are sturdy, they don't seem too heavy to walk around in all day.

These are fabulously warm and waterproof boots. I trudged a half mile through nearly 2-ft deep snow and my pants and socks were dry! I've gotten many compliments, living in a world of everyone wearing Joan of Arctics (Chicago). They are quite tall, up to the knee, and all styles of pants fit tucked in. The tragedy is that they rub so badly on my Achilles that I bleed if I don't have an extra layer (like moleskin patches) on there. I hadn't walked far enough for this to happen until after the return window passed, so I'm stuck with them. I'm hoping that this winter I'll break in that pesky ankle and not dread my snowy commute.

These boots are tough! This winter has been brutal in Michigan but these boots are its equal. They are warm but not too warm indoors. I work retail on pavement and they are pretty cozy. I added $6 inserts for extra support. They are super cute. My only problem is behind the ankle inside the leather there is a plastic or something that actually rubbed until I bled. I put Ace bandages around my ankles now and they are the most comfortable boots! It seems like a lot to add for the price point, but I'm very happy with my purchase!
