These shoes had excess fabric and padding at the lower end of the tongue. That made them uncomfortable as soon as you put them on. I currently on 6 pair of New Balance Walking Shoes (all this size), none with this defect. Very disappointed.

After buying very comfortable running shoes from New Balance I was happy to try a walking shoe from the same company I had become loyal too. I wanted a fully closed shoe for the cold at night. These looked perfect, but the fit is awful, They bend in and bunch on the top of your feet as you walk and are very uncomfortable and they don't have any of the fit feel I was used to with other New Balance products. Based on my experience I would not recommend purchasing these online as I did without a long trial walk.

I donated this pair to the local homeless shelter after 3 five mile walks. Went to the local shoe store and bought a pair of mx-608-4vb (608) with the non-slip soles...much better.

As a big guy in the Big and Tall, I need a tennis shoe I don;t have to tie and can slip on and off. When you slip these shoes on, the back of the shoe above the heel always drops over, bends, folds over, and you have to constantly work your foot in and out to get it to bend back. Painful, especially during those times your feet are swollen. 2nd pair I've bought because it is the ONLY shoe in my size that is a white, normal, velcro shoe. Going to shop elsewhere I think and try to find another place to buy my shoes. Just not worth it here.

New Balance shoes have gone downhill. I have bought this exact shoe before but now my usual size does not fit even close. The interior construction is unfinished. They are not stylish.

Leather has plastic feel and overall construction seems light and chintzy. Hook and loop could be larger and longer. Compared to my previous pair that lasted many years this seems so poorly constructed that I will never buy again.

I have bought 2 pairs of these for my Dad and have sent both back. On first shipment the left shoe was defective the toe box was more narrow than the right shoe. Second shipment the right shoe wouldn't even sit flat on the floor, definitely a manufacturer defect. Velcro straps too short. He has worn a 2E in New Balance walking shoes before and now the 4E are too narrow? We are done trying to find a pair of New Balance that will work. New Balance quality has gone downhill over the years. Only good thing I can say is the exceptional Zappos customer service in handling this.

:Most of my shoes have been purchased at LL Beans but this time they were stiff, sole poorly shaped and too small. Of course I still have to purchase a winter shoe so I may try again. WW

I have been buying New Balance shoes for many years. All my comfort shoes are New Balance. These - and the 812s - are amazing comedowns. Clearly this is a different company for the quality manufacturer I was used to. I tried pairs of each these and the 812s. In none of them - I tried a few times - was the velcro long enough to double over to close the shoes securely. In the 577s, the velcro wouldn't even stay closed at all without pinching my foot. In addition, the toe area pinched. I send these back and kept the 812s and now the velcro closures of them keep popping open. In addition, there is no spring to the soles. While I could wear all my old New Balances for substantial hikes, I cannot walk two blocks in the new ones without feeling uncomfortable. I have to wear them like dress shoes - and have another pair if I want to walk any distance. Don't know how New Balance could change like that, but I no longer look to them for shoes. Color is nice.

These were purchased to replace the only product from LLB that failed. The "collar" on the right outside of the the right shoe disintegrated.. I had purchased an identical black pair at the same time which are fine so I had no problem ordering a replacement pair in white.
