These are great boots. I have worn and loved mine for three winters. They are super comfortable and relatively waterproof. However, I want to warn folks that the buttons are not secured well. Four of them have come off of mine. The leather also scuffs easily, which means you need to frequently oil them. If you are looking for no maintenance winter boots that you can wear all day every day, you might want to look at some of Merrell's other boots.

These boots are just perfect. I never write reviews, but I do read them, so I hope someone like me will read this and take the plunge on buying these wonderful boots. I have a wide foot, and a high instep. Normal size calves. I got these in 8.5, and they truly do fit like a (comfortable) glove. I put them on right out of the box and they felt as though they'd been made for me. They're also incredibly well-made. You cannot go wrong. As expensive as they are, they are worth every penny (and goodness knows, it's only too easy to spend this much on a pair of poorly-made, ill-fitting boots). I'm even considering getting another pair in the other color, that's how good these are.

I have been looking for boots for 2 years and tried on probably 2 hundred pairs and I finally found a great pair in these Merrell's! My calves have a circumference of 13 inches and these boots are perfect with leggings and skinny jeans with just enough room to spare. I wear orthotics but don't need to with these boots because they feel like I have my orthotics in already. I have Plantar Fasciitis and chronic back pain/spine damage and these boots don't make the pain worse. They feel good on my feet. I finally went out and bought myself a pair of skinny jeans to wear with my new boots. The bonus is they're waterproof. Thank you Merrell and I love Zappos!

I love these boots and have worn them almost every day since I got them. I have a lot of boots and these immediately became my go-to pair. They are by far the most comfortable boots that I own. They're a great height for me, not too tall, but not short (I'm 5'8"). They're a more feminine cut than my Keens or Uggs, but still look more edgy than a fashion boot. They're great with skirts or over skinny jeans. (They will fit under some of my boot cut jeans, but not all of them.) I get compliments on them all the time. I usually wear a 9.5-10 and I got the 9.5 in these. They're even a little bit roomy, but the 9's were too small. (I would be swimming in the 10's.) So they may run a little bigger than some. (I wear a 10 in my Keen boots.) The leather on the black isn't shiny, it's more of a matte finish and they look broken in right away, which I like. I did have one of the buttons on the back fall off not long after I got them but I called Merrell and they sent me some replacements ones right away for free. I would still highly recommend these boots.

I love these boots! They are a total lifesaver - I actually bought a second pair because I literally wear them almost every single day! The first pair I bought were under a slightly different name, but looks exactly the same, so I am assuming they re-launched this style since last season when I bought my first pair. Anyways, I am a hairstylist, so I am on my feet all day, and when I wear these to work (on concrete floors, btw) I never have any foot pain at the end of the day....in fact, they are so comfy, I can go out all night long after having been on my feet all day, with no discomfort! They go perfectly with dresses, skirts, or over jeans or leggings. They felt pretty tight in the calf when I first got them, but loosened up over time. Also, they don't come all the way up to the knee, which is great for me, since I am petite. A+!

I love these boots. I've had them for a year, and they've held up pretty well. I am a nanny, and wear these just about every day to the park. I even bike in them. My only complaint is that I wish they didn't have the buttons on them. I lost one of the buttons, the other day, and I feel like the silver stud is laughing at me.

I love these boots! I bought them about two months ago and have worn them almost everyday since. So far, no buttons have come loose as other customers have warned. They are true to size, just roomy enough to allow thick socks and tucked in pant legs. These boots have been the perfect balance between weatherproof-ness, comfort, and style. No lasting scuffs, stains, or waterspots! I've worn them to work, on wet walks, out at night and everywhere in between. Go Merrell!

I have never written an online review for any purchase but I am so incredibly pleased with my Merrell Captiva boots that I had to submit my thoughts. I have a very small foot--size 5, sometimes even a 4-- and so it is hard to find a comfortable stylish boot. I ordered several different brands a month before I went to France for a 12 day business trip and decided on the Merrell's. I just need to say that these are the most comfortable, cool boots I have ever owned and am thrilled with my decision. I wore them non-stop and was on my feet for the majority of this time. They were the only shoes I wore the entire trip, and my feet never got tired. I could not believe how lucky I was, as I have never had such an experience with boots before. I even like how they look scuffed up a little from constant use. Thank you Merrell and Zappos.

I love these boots. I got them about three months ago in preparation for a rainy Seattle winter and I have never been so satisfied with a purchase in my whole life. They started out a bit tight, but they loosened up after a week or so of wear, and they feel like they were made for me. I do a lot of walking, and my feet feel great. They're probably the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever owned, comparable to Doc Martens but much quieter and less chunky. I tested out the waterproof-ness by walking around in the ocean, and they didn't let the water in. Very cool! I am 5'8" and they come up to about mid-calf on me. It's a good height, and they look cute with trousers and dresses alike. As for style, I love that they look plain from the front and fancier from the back. They have an almost Scandinavian look about them. I feel as if these boots would be well-suited to both an active, fashionable city lifestyle as well as a more rural lifestyle- I think I could even be happy hiking in them. There aren't really any cons to speak of. One button did pop off after about a month, though. Also, the shaft portion of the boot did loosen by a little bit after some wear, becoming less fitted to the calf. So, all in all: they're expensive, but worth every penny.

I've had these for about a month and I'm very happy with them. They're quite comfortable and the buttons on the back look stylish, in a Victorian (Steam-punk?) sort of way. I've gotten many compliments. They are definitely waterproof - I got caught in a rainstorm wearing these and while my companions were miserable in their soaking shoes I stayed completely dry.
The arch support in these is decent, though not as high as some shoe's I've owned. I might consider putting in an insert for the sake of my very, very high arches. These are quite roomy on my narrow feet so that shouldn't be a problem.

I love these boots. Strike the right balance between form and function. In rain and sleet and snow my feet have stayed warm and dry. I don't seriously expect them to keep out water if I wade in the creek -- "waterproof" only goes so far when you're talking leather construction, but I've been very happy with them as an all-weather "civilian-grade" boot. They're lightweight, good sole tread, and much cuter than a lot of other rain/snow boots. Not for hiking mountains or tromping through the Everglades, though I bet they'd do a lot better than many. Oh - and all of my jeans, even flare/boot cut jeans, can tuck inside them, but they also go under jeans nicely for an unobtrusive rain/snow boot. Not too tall - I can't stand tall boots digging into my knees, I'm 5'2", size 7M, runs true to size with room for thick socks but fine with thin ones. Only vaguely stiff which I only notice going down stairs - due more to the fitted shaft than the sole/base of the boot. An all-around great boot.

My favorite boot ever for casual wear! Only glitch was that one of button covers came off with very little wear.

I have had these boots about two years and have loved them. It is only recently that one of the buttons came off, and I just put black nail polish on that spot so the silver didn't stand out. However, the boots have lost their waterproof element, which is a problem for me, since I like to wear them with dresses to work (in NYC) when it is rainy/snowy. While I can't see any openings, water now seeps in one of the seams on the bottom and my right foot always ends up wet. I plan to take them to shoe repair in hopes that it can be fixed. If not, I'll probably buy another pair, but I do expect boots at this price to last a long time (I've had a pair from JCrew for 20 years and some from Kenneth Cole that have lasted more than a dozen years).

The shaft on these boots is a bit low, so they don't look great on my 5'10" frame, but they're really nice boots. They'd be perfect for someone 5'5" or under. I love that they're good to go in wet weather- much better looking than rubber rain boots. They aren't super dressy, due to the thick rubber sole, but they're a nice casual look especially if you have a lot of walking to do. The leather is nice color and quality and I like the button detailing. My calves are about 15" around at the widest, and I can easily tuck a pair of jeans into these. They feel the tiniest bit narrow, and could use a bit more arch support, but I have a very high arch. Would definitely recommend.

Unfortunately, the shape of the toe ball of this boot flares out a bit and ends up looking a bit manly on my feet. Also, I must have extra pronounced angle bones, because the zipper on this boot pressed uncomfortable on them. I'm keeping the Ugg Deanna's I ordered instead.

I love these boots so much. I bought the other color a few months after buying my first pair. I wore them several times a week, and loved that they were waterproof, stylish, and comfortable. I did not even mind when a button fell off one pair. Now, a year later, a zipper on one boot of each pair failed (ripped out). My calves are small (most boots are too wide) so that does not explain the problem. Merrell offered to refund part of the price for the repair, which does not come close to covering it. I am unsure if I should be happy that I had awesome boots for a year or mad about needing to replace them. I love the look of all the similar Merrell boots, but I am scared to buy any at this point.

These boots are pretty short. I was looking for a nearly knee high boot, but I am 5 11, if you're a tall girl these boots just look weird. I still wear them, I've had them for 3 years. The zipper recently broke and came apart after it was zipped and I was wearing them. I don t wear them often because of the weird height on me but even with very infrequent wearing they haven't held up well. Especially considering the price. Stick with Keen boots, they re much better quality.

I got these boots at the beginning of the season and loved them. They fit perfectly right away, they are wide and comfortable. But almost immediately, one of the buttons broke off. No big deal...they were so comfortable I didn't mind. But then...a month later, the zipper broke. I loved these boots, so I contacted Zappos and exchanged them for a new pair. Now, a month later...the zipper is breaking in the same place! I am returning them, again, and I asked the woman if they had lots of problems with these boots, and she said they had, not necessarily with the zipper, but with the buttons and other problems. It's too bad because they are amazing in every other way, but they just don't hold up.

These boots are comfortable, right out of the box. I wore them twice and a button came off. I called Merrell and they sent me replacement buttons. I have had this pair of boots for a month. Every time I wear them, a button pops off. I have run out of replacement buttons (they sent me a dozen buttons). I really like them, but when I wear them, I am constantly checking to see if one of the buttons have fallen off, and, every time I wear them, one falls off. I am disappointed. I love my other Merrell shoes. These cost way too much to have to deal with the buttons constantly falling off.

Best boots ever! Merrell, please bring them back! Great to have comfortable, waterproof, stylish boots -- especially love the buttons along the side. I can walk confidently on city sidewalks for hours, even in the rain. Excellent with skirts and tights, plus I can tuck in slim pants for stylish look. I have medium to wide feet so the roomy base of shoe is excellent, although the top of zipper would be too tight if my calves were larger or I was wearing thicker slim pants. Highly recommend these boots!

Bought these boots for a recent rainy trip to New York City and I absolutely loved them. I wore them for two days straight, traipsing around all of New York. My feet stayed dry and super comfortable the whole time. I have ankle problems and was nervous that they wouldn't have enough support for a lot of walking, but I was proven wrong. My feet felt great! My only minor complaint is after hours of rain and water my feet were a little cold. These boots aren't lined, so it was to be expected. However on day 2 I wore an extra pair of socks and the problem was solved.

I am really happy with these boots! I needed a really comfortable boot that I could do a lot of walking in. I did not leave enough time to "break" them in. I did not want to wear tennis shoes. I wore them every day for 2 1/2 weeks on my London Trip. They were perfect!

Yep, these babies are just the best. I receive many compliments and have for years. I am thinking of buying a black pair from Zappos because back when I bought my brown pair, the black pairs looked cheap with some faux satin material for the straps where the brown pair had detail straps made from same material as the boot. The pic here looks like perhaps a different fabric use on the black boot now. BUT I own two pairs already, and I surely did not pay this price for either.
