These shoes are unwearable for me. They are too tight all the way around, including the short tongue. Unfortunately I wore them outside on an extended walk the first day. I ended up limping back due to the discomfort.

Well, I loved the 991 hated the 992 (wasn't along on this I know) like the 993 and am sorry they are dropping it except for special orders or some such Tried the 990 and, Talors, my back started to hurt again when I wore them! Hope they go back to the 993s or even 991. I understand that New Balance will no longer change the numbers of the 990s just the letters or something. I do like supporting companies that "make in America."

Have been buying New Balance forever. Don't mind paying high price for comfort. However, over the past few years NB has been changing styles for the worse. Bought these M990's and am sorry I kept them because the tongue is too short. Don't understand why they would make a great sneaker and pretty much ruin it with a tongue that's way too short. Think it's time to start trying other brands.

Shoes felt great for about 1 month. I started smelling an offensive smell in my closet. I narrowed it down to one of the shoes. I removed the insert and washed out the shoe. Cat urine smell was still there. I threw the shoes away. It was a waste of $137.

M 990 Love fit and gray color, but the cat urine smell. This happened also the last 2 pairs. What a shame. I have worn the sneakers for years. Please fix; they are my favorite sneaker.

As others state, as soon as these get wet they smell like cat urine. I wore them to work and had to go home early to change. Buyer beware. I am so disappointed because I love the shoe, the fit, the look what a disappointment with the smell.

These shoes were great for about a year, then the little plastic-like part in the middle of the sole of the shoes started to wear down and produce an awful smell. At first I thought I had horrible foot odor, but then I realized the smell came from the sole of the shoe and not the inside. I contacted New Balance and they confirmed that this is a common problem with this model, but all they would offer me was a huge discount on a new pair of shoes because apparently the shoes are only designed to last about a year anyway. I definitely would not recommend these.

Usually, I am a big fan of New Balance. One of the few shoes in wide sizes and some are still made in the USA, as was this one. This model years ago was my first new balance. So, I was ok with the rather high price for a retro shoe, still made in the USA. BUT, the shoe tended to suponnate, pitch slightly to the outside. The soles of these shoes wore out way too fast for the kind of us I gave them. I walk, not run, about a mile a day. Usually the toes wear out on my shoes before soles. Cheaper New Balance models have held up much better. I am very disappointed. I am thinking of contacting the manufacturer.

Stay away! I've been a huge fan of New Balance as they offer a lot of wide shoes. But I'm done with them, and sad to say that. As others state, these sneakers smell really bad - once you get them wet. They smell like a mix of bad BO and cat urine. I wore them to work and noticed a horrific smell and had to go home as I was embarrassed. I put them in a large walk in closet, and it stunk up the whole closet as well, and had to throw them out. I had an older version of these with no issues.

The smell issue others complain about is very real. I just threw out my second pair and will never buy again. I still have one pair left that does not reek but it will happen soon enough. For this price this should never happen. I like New Balance because I have wide feet, but after blowing a lot of money on shoes that end up stinking up the whole house I am done with them forever.

Terrible cat urine smell. Too bad, because I love the shoes. Tried washing them, febreezing them, used pet odor remover to no avail. Looked online to see what's up and read that a lot of people have the same problem with this particular shoe. Too bad because it's a great shoe, except for the horrible smell.

The 990v3 by New Balance felt great and were true to size for the most part; however, the most prevalent problem I have had with them (I have owned three pairs!) is that the small portion of mesh on the bottom of the of the shoes allow moisture inside. Over a short time, the aforementioned mesh deteriorates and allows even more moisture into the bottom sole, and no matter how mindful one could try, the shoes develop a terrible smell that does not go away.

Absolute worst pair of New Balance shoes I've ever owned and I have been an avid NB shoe wearer for many years. I've noticed a decline in the quality of NB shoes over the years and this pair has finally done me in. The first day of wearing these shoes they felt fine and seemed comfortable. The second day it was all downhill from there and at the end of the day my feet were killing me! I still try wearing them from time to time but my feet are very sore at the end of the day! I'm giving up on NB and going on to try Skechers!

Yep, smell like cat pee when they get wet. It's embarrassing to wear them. If you google "New Balance Cat Pee", these shoes come up. Do your research. I contacted New Balance, and they said that since I bought them in January, I'm out of luck. I've sent Zappos an email, but haven't heard back, yet. Overall, disappointed. What worse, is that I spent extra $$$ to get shoes made in the USA.

Great looking show but on the heal is a strip of white rubber down the middle and it absorbs liquids. Unfortunately, I stepped in a small puddle of gasoline at a gas station and I smelled it when I got in the car and just figured the smell would go away on its own but days later the smell was still there, I put the outside hoping the smell would go away but it didn't. Here we are weeks later and those shoes still smelled heavily of gasoline. I called New Balance, explained to them in detail the issue with the rubber absorbing the gasoline and they told me to let them air out for 48 hours and then smell the inside again. I explained the smell was coming from the bottom of the shoe and it was gasoline but they said this was protocol for shoes that smelled. I couldn't convince them it wasn't the inside that stunk, it was the bottom of the shoe that stunk. I can't wear them anymore except to cut the grass or working outdoors. I had to buy another pair of sneakers and they definitely weren't New Balance.

Had the shoes about a year and babied them as I liked the fit. Not even a trip in the wet grass and then the awful smell of cat pee started. This smell is from the heal insert material and will not come out. The sickening smell fills the room the shoe is in. They are now double bagged in plastic in the garage to see if I can get any credit from the retailer. I see from other posts it must be the glue reacting with water after some months of use. Bought these to support the Made in USA but will try a different brand now.

Bought these a year ago and really dislike them. I buy this same series every year and this is the worst design in the last ten years. Way too much shoe and impossible to wear with the awful smell produced after subsequent wearings. Even tried to rotate shoes to alleviate smell issues to no avail. New Balance needs to cut back on shoe thickness and use a different material to get rid of that smell before I purchase again.

These sneakers were fine at first, but for unknown reasons, the foam soles disintegrated. They didn't even last one year. I'm extremely, extremely disappointed in the quality of this product, and shocked too. Wouldn't buy them again, or recommend them. Something this expensive shouldn't disintegrate after a few months.

Holy mackerel! I thought the urine smell was either my imagination or dog splash back. They are comfortable and fit well.

These are the worst shoes that I have ever had! I had to go buy a different insole. One more comfortable. I could not believe my eyes what was in there. Bad experience with New Balance. I will not purchase another pair. They are way over priced!

What's up with NB? The 990 classic has always been produced in D, EE, EEEE, but for some reason the new all black is only produced in D and EEEE. The company and stores will try to get you to up size and take a narrower shoe. Bad choice. Hey NB, make the 990 black in the same sizes as all of the other 990's!
