This is the first review I have ever written on Zappos and I have bought a lot of shoes from here. But I just had to make a statement about these horrible New Balance shoes! I thought New Balance might have gotten smart and gone back to making shoes like the 991 from many years ago but instead they came out with this crap. The toe box is ridiculously narrow. A wide toe box used to be what New Balance was known for. Way more narrow than my Asics and not as comfortable. I do not have wide feet but when it is hot outside and I am working out my feet tend to swell a little bit. It used to be that New Balance was the best to compensate for that, but not any more. Their quality is now very poor and I have heard from many running stores that they will not even carry them anymore due to the poor quality. I would have to say that Asics has taken over as the best running shoes out there, especially if you wear orthotics. Stay away from these shoes. If you do not like the 993 you will certainly not like this these. They are worse.

I, too, just had to make a statement about these horrible New Balance shoes! I have been a very happy New Balance customer for many years, and was taken in by the company's big ads. Brand new, these shoes feel like they are ready for replacement. There is no foot cushioning at all, and little or no arch support. I am very disappointed. Do not be fooled by the hype.

My podiatrist recommended these shoes, so I ordered them. I'm on my feet all day at work as a cashier & customer service rep. for a large retail store and these shoes are Very comfortable. They give great support, without smashing my toes and I often get compliments on how cute they look.

These shoes fit me well. I wore my old 992s long past their useful life because the 993 did not fit me at all. They were too narrow in the toe no matter what combination of sizes I tried. These 990s fit well; unlike the first reviewer, I find the toe box perfect. I have a foot with wide toes (my little toe is right up near the others), but a narrow midfoot and narrow heel. I did have to go up to a half size longer than my 992s, but I do not know if that is New Balance sizing or my feet growing. My one complaint about the shoes is that the red color on the "New Balance" name on the end of the tongue rubs off on the laces. I was tempted to give them four stars for style because of that feature, but I do like the style otherwise. Just lose the unnecessary red dye. And thanks, New Balance, for bringing back a slightly wider pair of shoes, which I can wear!

Really nice, relaxed fit shoes. A little more roomy than most shoes I've tried on in this size, in a good way for my feet. Very comfortable. I have a wide toe box, my toes are all basically the same length, and my ankle/heel is relatively small. These fit great!

I just purchased a pair of New Balance 990. They are ok, but has a lot to be desired compared to the 993's. The 993's have better support, made with much better materials, better quality, and more true to fit. I bought 2 pair of 993's 3 years ago and they are still in great condition. Comparing both side by side, it was very disappointing to see the changes in what was once one of the best shoes made. I would hope New Balance would want to keep their reputation as being the best and having great pride for one of the few products made in the USA. PLEASE BRING 993's back!

I've never written a review on Zappos before but I just had to warn fans of the New Balance 99x series that this is an awful shoe. I've been a loyal fan of this series since the 991 came out. This shoe honestly seems like a cheap knockoff of a New Balance shoe. The materials feel a little cheaper, there is much less cushioning, and worst of all the toe box is small and the entire shoe seems more narrow. I've had several pairs of 993s in a 9.5 B, but when I tried these on in the same size my toes were immediately crunched from all angles. I actually checked the label to make sure they hadn't sent me the wrong size. This is just crazy. New Balance, what have you done to my beloved shoes? Please bring the 993s back!

I have narrow, flat, overpronated feet. It's so difficult to find a comfortable, stabilizing shoe. This one works very well for me. I plan on buying it in another color combo.

These are excellent as always. They run true to size and are comfortable. In the past New Balance running shoes (in spite of the high price) did not have very good longevity, but they work well with orthotics. I use these only for walking; not running and always have two pairs.

Extremely comfortable. Comes wide enough in the toe box to take a custom orthotic.

These are the first shoes I have put on in months that fit correctly with my orthodics and don't hurt my feet.

Super comfy but I didn't realize it was a Susan G Koman shoe. I prefer not to wear clothing with any affiliate or other logos.

I used to wear Brooks constantly, but they changed so much I had to find a new brand. I have problem feet, and this was an excruciating experience. It took trying several brands and several sizes of this New Balance model before I got a shoe that works well. The wider, soft toe box accommodates my Morton's neuroma in size B and is narrow enough in the heel that it doesn't slip. It's not the cushiest sole or strongest support, but the shoe is comfortable. I start out wearing this type shoe on a treadmill, switch to everyday when it loses its prime support, and then relegate it to dirty tasks like gardening, etc. I have not worn the New Balance 990v3 long enough to report on the full span, but I am so incredibly grateful to Zappos for going above and beyond to help me start it. I have to put up with my feet - Zappos doesn't, but so many customer loyalty team members did, again and again. Thank you all! I recommend the shoe so far. I recommend Zappos unreservedly.

I'm not a runner. I wore the long-ago 990s, then 991, 992, and 993 for everyday wear on the streets of NYC. These seem to be the next step in that line. They accommodate my orthotics and bunion (in wide) so I'm happy. I had read reviews about this shoe having a bad smell once it got wet, but even though I've been caught in a shower or two since I got them, I haven't noticed it. No complaints.

I had an ankle injury with a torn ligament. These sneakers work. I have flat feet and overpronator as well. These sneakers have great support especially if you want to start cross training/light run before you actually are healed from an injury.

These are awesome shoe. I still had room for custom insert, and they did not feel too big or too tight. The grey and pink is just enough flash that they are not boring nor tacky. These held up really well in both every day walking/commuting and in dance class.

I ordered this shoe to replace the same shoe I had been wearing. NB changed it - it is now at least on quarter inch narrower. Won't work for me

These shoes fit very well. After being diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in both feet my doctor recommended I try a New Balance shoe. I actually purchased these from a New Balance store after trying on a variety of different styles, and loved them so much I decided to try to get another pair from zappos. They are the only shoes I can wear right now that allow my foot to be supported. If you have foot problems or need a supportive shoe I would definitely recommend these. Not to mention they are made in the United States! They are kind of expensive but worth the money not to have foot pain.

Where do I start. I have problems with my feet hurting all the time. I ordered the New Bakance 990 wide to compensate for my little toe that always get a bunion, which is very painful. Needless to say! These shoes are the bomb. My feet are pain free, which make me a happy person. Just love these shoes, I even bought them in black. No regrets here.

I did not actually buy these from Zappos. I received these as a gift. They are so horribly uncomfortable that I cannot even describe it. I am an overpronator that needs cushioning. My husband thought he was doing a good thing when he bought these. He was wrong. Every time I wear these my ankles throb and my feet hurt and I cannot wait to take them off. I tried an insole and the pain just got worse spreading up my leg to my calf and knee. Never again. These are not made for an overpronator.

I have worn the W990 for years and was shocked and disappointed in this latest version. I have wide feet and love the way the old version used to fit. They have narrowed the toe box so it is uncomfortable. What were they thingkin?

So happy with this shoe! Overall fit is perfect! I love this shoe just for everyday getting around doing errands, etc. So sad that New Balance is discontinuing half sizes. Grab this shoe while you still can!!
