I am usually a loyal New Balance customer. I have been wearing their sneakers for many yrs. This sneaker is shorter and narrower than other models I have worn in the past. I will try the next size, as other customers have suggested. Hope that helps! Thank you Zappos! Your customer service can't be beat!

I have worn the W1123 for years. Why can't people just leave it alone when they have a good thing? I wish I had listened to other reviews and never purchased these. I even purchased the expensive New Balance inserts to go in them. These shoes hurt my feet and ankles and I cannot wear them longer than 4 or 5 hours without changing into another pair for relief. My doctor had recommended New Balance for my arthritis and my bunions and the 1123 was great, but these are way too narrow, have no toe room, rub my bunion, and I have the heel slippage problem as well that others are complaining about. My recommendation would be to save your money and look to other brands.

I bought a pair of New Balance from a local store, where of course I had gotten measured, two years ago. I loved how those felt and was pretty sold on the brand. I bought this shoe in the same size and width as my old New Balances and was very disappointed they were so uncomfortable. My old ones were less expensive than these and I loved them, so I thought for sure I'd be at least as happy with these. These felt at least a half size smaller than marked, and too narrow (and I have average-width feet). These are getting returned.

New Balance ruined the perfect sneaker. The earlier version of this sneaker (W1123) had a fabulous fit. New Balance has altered the fit and not in a good way. Wearing the same size of the sneaker I find It is shorter, narrower width in the arch area and the sole has been redesigned so my orthotics bump up into the arch of my foot in a painful way. They might work for others who aren't wed to the earlier version. For me they are going right back. Also, I wish Zappos wouldn't keep dropping wide versions of the shoes they carry. I now often have to look at other sites to find wide and extra wide shoes.

I was really disappointed in these. I was trying to replace 1123 NB. I tried my regular size and the next size up and they just were uncomfortable. They are definately wide enough. Each time I put them on to go on a walk I stopped and changed shoes before leaving the house because they were so uncomfortable. I've had a difficult time replacing the 1123.

Yet another reason to stop buying New Balance. The shoe is way narrow and in my opinion poorly made. I should have listened to the other reviewers. By the way, for other Zappos shoppers looking for another brand, try the Aetrex Reina. I feel like it runs a half size large but is generous in the width.

Aetrex, Brooks, maybe Asics

I purchased this 1540 shoe because the 1123 is no longer available. I am working on the cement hospital floor long hours and two hours into my shift my right foot was hurting. This is not the same shoe, I feel jipped.

What a disappointment! The only shoes I've ever been comfortable in are the 1123. Please bring these back! This shoe is a different cut--my orthotics bring my foot up too high in this shoe and the shoe is a little too short. Walking is not comfortable! (So I have to dig out my old 1123s for any serious walking--they are very old and worn.)

This shoe looks good, but it runs very narrow. I have a 7 1/2 foot with narrow heel and medium toe area. Ordered 8M and it's none too long and very snug overall.

I am so disappointed with this shoe. The 1123 was the only shoe that fit me -- nothing else by any shoe manufacturer does. Now I have nothing comfortable to wear because the toe box in this shoe is shaped differently. I am still wearing my old 1123 shoes when I have to do serious walking. They are very dirty and worn out by now. Please bring back the old shoe!

I bought these shoes because they replaced my previous style. They hurt my feet so bad. I would never buy these shoes but it is what my Dr. uses for orthotics. They are too short and the toe box too small. Poor design.

I want my old 1122 or 1123 shoes back! These shoes hurt my feet & the others were perfect! Don't know what to do. It cost a lot of money to keep looking for shoes, not only a lot of time. New Balance bring back the 1122 or 1123's please! Stop messing with a good thing. I hate these shoes!

Thank goodness for Zappos. Of all the online buying I do, Zappos raises the bar in customer service. I wish I could give zero stars to New Balance. The 1123 was perfect for me, and even given the not so great reviews I decided to order the 1540 anyway because I need a motion control shoe, with good support. Liked the look of the shoe, but it in no way fit as it was at least a full size too short (and I ordered 10 1/2 just like the 1123's are). Returned. Ordered size 11. It was even shorter than the 10 1/2. Returned. Ordered Brooks motion control. Not enough support. Returned. I think I will continue to wear my old 1123's until New Balance comes out with yet another "number". I do wonder why companies can't just leave well enough alone.

The 1123 has been the only comfortable shoe for me and I have been a devoted customer of New Balance for several years. Your new version of this shoe has a smaller toe box and my little toe is squeezed and my toes are pushed up too high in the double E width. (I have orthotics after bunion surgery.) I have spent a lot of money buying 2 different sizes of your shoe, but I can't find a comfortable size and the toe box is just too small. Please return to the wider toe box of your 1123. I really don't have any other options for comfort. I would like to remain a devoted New Balance customer!

I don't write many Zappos reviews because I have such short, wide feet that my experience with shoes is not really relevant to most other buyers. But, New Balance was always one of my go-to brands, and the 6WWs usually fit nicely. I got these in 5.5 4E and they fit well enough but I can't keep them. They look like orthopedic shoes. I ordered them first in black and they were horrible, but I thought maybe the white ones wouldn't be so bad. They were. I ended up with a pair of Saucony's, which look a bit like nurse's shoes, but not nearly as clunky as these.

I agree with "Shame on New Balance." This model 1540W is not at all the same shoe or fit as 1153W was. I'm returning it. It's tight across the toes and generally tight all around.

Like other reviewers I also have serious foot problems and need a quality comfortable shoe...but these are the squarest, ugliest shoes ever! I think I looked like I had the shoe boxes on my feet instead of the shoes. And that shade of purple, yuck. Come on New Balance comfort does not have to equal ugly. Can't really say how the fit was, no way will I pay this much for ugly shoes when there are so many alternatives on Zappos!

Not true to size. I wore and loved the 1123 for years. The 1540 is not smooth on the inside and rubs my pinkie toes. I do not know how they ever got Medicare approval for diabetics. Not comfortable. If you have ever worn the 1123, you will find a real difference in the 1540.

This is a very disappointing evolution of what was the 1123 shoe. The toebox is shaped and fits differently, as does the rest of the shoe. I would not describe this as the progression of the 1123, just like other reviewers have posted, this shoe does not resemble the fit or comfort that the 1123 provided. It also seems to run a full size smaller than the former 1123 does. I ordered 1/2 size up based upon other reviews, and my toe was still hitting the edge. If you are looking for a shoe to replace your 1123's, I would not recommend the 1540.

I also LOVED the 1123 New Balance and I was so disappointed to find they discontinued them. I searched high and low for a pair from anywhere to no avail. I tried the 1540 on in my usual size and they were too small. The sales person said the wide might work, but they didn't have them so I ordered them from Zappos. When I received them they seemed fine, so I wore them, and within a short time I knew they weren't working. I have knee problems and the 1123 saved my life! I was at work and I didn't have another pair to change into. I was able to find another pair that I love – New Balance 1012.The toe box is just a tad bit narrower, but they work.

It appears New Balance no longer cares about the health and well being of the customer. To change good performing products into cheap, less performing products indicate greed and/or poor management.

Not as comfortable as my NB 1123. They feel smaller then a 8 1/2 B. The toe area is very uncomfortable. I have tried to get use to them, but without success. Very disappointed in the shoe.

I purchased these and wore them for a while and could not figure out why they were hurting my feet. I was told they replaced the 1123 model. What I did not know is that the sizing changed. I had already worn mine for about a month when I realized what the problem was. I am now stuck with these shoes that do not fit properly and out quite a bit of money. I have foot issues to begin with which is why I love these shoes. But that is also why I did not realize it was the shoes and not my feet causing the issue. I still stand by these shoes, I am just a little ticked off that the sizing changed.

If you want a great live in shoe, don't buy this one. It's uncomfortable and annoying. The inside of the shoe near the ankle has two pieces that are poorly joined. Wear them and you get blisters on the sides of you feet and ankles.
