So thankful for these New Balance. When the UPS man arrived it made my day. When I got up this morning I was limping into work with foot and leg pain. But thanks to these shoes I am pain free in my feet and legs in just a few hours.

This is about the 5th or 6th pair I have owned. I have 6E width. They are Comfortable with a capital C. I have had issues with quality but have been resolved with NB. They are creeping up in price but still a great shoe. Used to get 1123's until they were discontinued.

M1540 replaced my 1123's and they give the same great support with the inclusion of a 'Rollbar'. Open mesh top offer good air circulation. The size is a 'true fit' ....possibly a hair smaller.....I take a 10 1/2 wide and these new shoes are 11 wide and are a great fit. Worth the cost.

I just had surgery on my ankle. I had a full fusion. My doctor said these were the only running shoes he gets. When I saw the price I said. But I bought them anyway. You know where you money goes. These are the best shoes. I highly recommend them.

The inventory was excellent and I quickly identified what I needed in the size needed -- rarely possible in local stores.

Based on the reviews I bought these a half size large and that was a mistake because they are too big. So I would guess they are true to size but overall I felt very little support and comfort and the soles wear out fast but I don't know how much of that has to do with them being too big for me. Overpriced!

I was not upgrading from the 1123. I upgraded to the 840 from the 883. They did not work for me but these do. I don't really like the role bar. The shoe doesn't flex laterally enough for me. Only time will tell if these cause another part of my body to malfunction. When walking I haven't had a problem. The 840's did damage to my knees over time. I will have to wait for some time to see what running is like. So, if your upgrading from the 883's you might like these. I like the styling. They are old peoples shoes that don't look that way. White socks and shoes are out. Old men wear white socks and sneakers now.

For those who suffer with plantar fasciitis, this shoe gives excellent arch support. If you have neuropathy, you get amazing comfort for your very sore feet. I suffer with both symptoms and I am very glad that I purchased this product.

To all you NB 1123 fans....you can order and wear this show with confidence. I stayed in my 1123's longer than i should have. For a large body, super pronator, it served me well. When I found the 1540 was the replacement show for the 1123 I was initially distressed but after several weeks and miles I am all smiles with the 1540. Note: I ordered one-half size larger than my 1123s and it was the right move.

In 2010 I shattered the top of my tibia, severely hurting the bone itself as well as my knee structure. After about 18 months I was feeling strong enough to start cardio within my doc's restrictions (eg. no running, etc) which I did. I had a heck of a time locating a shoe that properly supported my awkward-at-first gait. After several pairs of shoes that put my feet at angles causing strains in vaarious muscles and joints I ordered these 1540s. Extremely impressed. I can't say I'm surprised, per se, as NB and I have always seemed to get along. Bottom line; this is the best pair of shoes I've owned as least since my severe injury, possibly ever (not counting work boots). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. As I was injured for almost 2 years (I broke my back in 2 vertebrae also) inactivity and living back home (home cooked meals everyday, need I say more?) ballooned my weight from a healthy 195-205lbs (I'm 6'3") to 268lbs at my heaviest. I'm now at 220 and counting, and I owe a great deal to my 1540's for keeping me injury free. P.S. I also really dig the way they look. I'm in the process of ordering my second pair as soon as this review is submitted

Gift for my husband. He has wide feet and new balance is his only brand that comes in his custom size. Great that they offer black now. But he would love if they came out with a color and style that's "hip" to styles these days.

Had previously tried other New Balance 'wide' shoes. The 4E's just didnt cut it. Very happy to see that Zappos had 6W as well, these fit great, very comfortable and use them for every day workouts. Will probably look to order this same pair again down the road.

The only brand that can take the Island Life. They came in Wide sizes. Other Brands try to force you into a shoe that doesn't really fit. Once you try them you will know what it is like to put on a pair of new shoes that really fit.

These shoes are new to me, but so far I have been happy with them. I learned from a sales representative with New Balance that this newer design is intended to get runners to hit more mid-foot versus on the heel. I also learned that the last or foot form for the size D of this shoe is a bit wider than the 1012s I had previously. In my case, this made the shoes more comfortable on my foot. As an extreme pronator, I have found that these shoes do as promised with respect to motion control. They also accommodate the orthotics prescribed by my physical therapist. The only negative comments I have about these shoes are (1) a safety concern - when I was running in heavy rain yesterday I found myself hydroplaning at least twice and almost toppled over (be sure to keep off of wet grass and metal utility covers on the sidewalk with these shoes); (2) on a more minor note, these shoes can look a bit dorky from certain angles but I will take comfort and fit over that any day.

These are incredibly comfortable shoes -- wide in the toe box, high in the instep, and snug in the heel. Just what my aging, spreading feet needed.

I've worn NB shoes for last 15 years. I've owned every evolving model of this running shoe (and others) throughout those years. Now for you folks that have average sizes, I hear frequent complaints that these evolving models always seem to have fitting flaws to your liking, so you purchase other models or brands. Since there are countless models of running shoes to fit your average feet, you can play your game of finicky choosing indefinitely! I, on the other hand, have an unusual size and foot health problems that require a special quality of shoe to fit a specific need. This model of NB is the only shoe on the market (no competing company) that even remotely fit this specific need. Thus, I have been a very keen observer and critic of the quality and craftsmanship (engineering) of this particular model shoe! I can find flaw with every improved model in the past 15 years, but for my money this pair is the best model they have produced in the past three model updates, at least! I could spend hours discussing a wide range of features and aspects about this model shoe, but I won't. I will say that most folks may want to consider trying a half size larger (length) in this model verses the previous 1123 model. I shall undoubtedly purchase several pairs of this particular model, to assure that I have some additional pairs on hand in the future. I have discovered over time that the swings in model changes can be rather dramatic at times. Fortunately for you folks with average size feet, you can always choose from dozens of other models and brands of running shoes with a wide range of support and features. I unfortunately have only one model and brand of shoe to choose from when searching for enhanced features for support, size (13+), and width (6E).

None made in my size and foot health needs!

This NB 1540 keeps you from rolling your foot inwards and provides strong arch support. The sole feels sturdy but flexes well in the toe. Seems to have a rounder toe than others. They are well made shoes, I can walk all day in them, and, in black, don't look flashy/fluorescent.

Fit true to size. Tongue too short and crunches up when sliding foot in. Have not run in them but when walking I feel kind of like I am wearing clogs. But I like the roominess and my feet do not hurt after wearing for a long time either...

These are nice shoes. But the extra wide is really very wide and not very good in appearance. I found that they are rather heavy in weight. They are not appropriate for walking.

Zappos is great. The only place I buy shoes. I have bad fee (neuropathy) and wide feet (4E). If it weren't for Zappos' return policy (which is not to be abused) I'd own lots of shoes that don't fit. I am finding like many other customers that New Balance shoes are running less true to size than before. They are a tad short and a tad narrow. Either that or I'll have to lop off part of my feet.

This is an excellent Quality shoe made to replace the 1123. My feet are very flat and while this shoe has similar construction, I did find it fit differently.

My physical therapist's main complaint with this shoe is that the heel drop is too high. But it fits my wide midfoot and narrow heel very well. My main complaint is that the material the sole is made of erodes very quickly.
