I ordered these in black soft vintage leather. They look good, but like other reviewers mention, the zippers don't work well around the heel, which is concerning. How will they hold up in the long run? Also the leather looks a little more weathered than I would like. I feel like for the price I would be paying, I should absolutely love these, and I like them a lot, but don't absolutely love.

These are great boots for women whose shoe sizes are above 7 and have smaller circumference calves. My shoe size is 8 and my calf circumference at the largest point is 13½" (standard width). I am between a size 7½ and 8, but I recommend sizing up if the boots feel tight. The leather is stiff and didn't stretch all that much over two weeks of continuous wear. The opening of the boot measures about 13¾" on a size 8, so if your calves are the same size as mine, you can wear jeans and thick socks with them. The boots are a bit heavier than a dressy boot and look a little chunky. For casual boots, this is fine and they still look dressier than most casual boots. I would not say that you could wear them with business casual type outfits, but they will go nicely with casual outfits of all kinds. Although the boot shaft fit me nicely, there is some room in the calf portion that can make your calves look bigger than they are. Not a big deal as the extra room for socks and jeans is cool. The quality of the leather is outstanding. These boots look like they will last a long time (three years if cared for nicely).

I just received these boots in Dark Brown Soft Vintage, size 8, which is my normal size. First off, let me say the color is absolutely extraordinary - a very deep brown, almost like a dark burgundy. Gorgeous. And contrary to the photo here, the heels are a dark brown as well, not the light brown distressed as shown, which I was very happy about. Unfortunately for me, with my 13 inch calves, there is still a good inch and a half in the circumference around my skinny legs. I am going to inquire at a shoe repair place to see if they can take them in for me, because unlike some other boots the ankle width is nice and slim, so if the calves are taken in it won't look weird. If they can't do it though, I'll have to send these back. They are so nice!

Too big in the calf and not what I was looking for. Might work if you have more athletic legs and want a kind of motorcycle boot look. Not a bad boot just not for me.

Cute, felt like high quality leather, but too tall for petite women (I am 5'0"). Must return but sorry.

These boots run very small in the toe box, in the heel and in the calf.

This was a beautiful boot that I really wanted to love but the zipper made me return them. For a boot at this price, this should not be an issue. It was extremely difficult (even when not on my foot) to get the zipper all the way down or once there, all the way up.

Overall I really loved this boot - absolutely beautiful craftsmanship. The waft of leather when I opened the box was delicious. I purchased the Cognac color and it is beautiful. Very tough to zipper up my calf which is not an issue I have ever had with a tall boot before. I tried a few times to get the boot zipped up but was only successful without any shoes or pants on! Sadly, I decided to return the boot that I was so excited to purchase.

I searched and searched tall boots all over the internet to find the ones with the smallest calf circumference because I have skinny calves. These were listed as have a 13 inch circumference, perfect, except when I received them they are actually 14 1/2 inches circumference. Big and baggy and unflattering.

I wanted to love these boots as I loved the look of the straps and buckles and want a fitted boot with a short heel. However I didn't like look of the crinkly effect on the upper boot. They felt very small, were difficult to put on and I was unable to zip these because they were very tight at the bottom. I exchanged them for another Frye boot a half size larger and they were huge. I've now tried 4 pair of Frye boots without success. I like that they are made of all leather and I have a friend who swears they are so comfortable and fit her easily molding to her foot with the first few wearings. I will probably try again. Thank you Zappos for allowing exchanges and returns.

This shoe was such a let down. Really, just meh. The flatness in the heel was very unflattering. The zip is a great feature, but that's about it. I'll be returning, and carrying on my search for my new black boot.

I just got these and I have been trying to make a boot decision for awhile. I loved the way they looked and smelled when I opened them, but I am now convinced that the style is defective and that is why Frye no longer carries them on their website.They just don't work for most people! The zippers are always a problem especially the left boot. It took my very strong husband about 15 minutes of messing with them to get the zipper to go up and down when they were not even on my foot. He finally got them down. The left for some reason is much more difficult from the right. I am very tall 6'0 and very thin 155. I have narrow calves and I could not get the zipper up the last inch no matter how hard I tried. I laid on the floor pointed my toe and behaved like one of Cinderella's step sisters trying as hard as I could to make these fit! I want to cry...I have worn them around the house trying to break them in, but it's useless. The shaft is much tighter than stated. You will not be able to get jeans or socks in there. Sadly a defective product unless you have Olive Oyl thin legs and a husband willing to mess with the zippers every day for 15 minutes. My frustration is that these are still being sold. They are defective!

I really don't know how expensive must a boot be to be walkable... These, first of all, felt a full size smaller than they are marked, but even if I bought a larger size, I wouldn't dare to walk in them because they would make zero friction with the ground. Why make shoes like that?..

The struggle is real. The zipper is incredibly difficult to zip. It requires pliers and 20 minutes. They are gorgeous boots, but I returned them as I do not want to deal with the zipper every time I wear them.

These are beautiful boots, unfortunately I could not get the zipper up at all when on my feet. It is a shame that the zipper is so hard to pull up when on your foot for such pricey high quality boots. I am returning these.

This is the 2nd pair of this boot I have ordered. The zipper doesn't unzip all the way down and is very difficult to zip and unzip. I thought the 1st pair was just defective so I returned them and ordered another but zipper is defective in these also. As I wore them one time and the zipper broke while attempting to take them off.

I had a similar problem as has been indicated in other reviews - I simply could not get the zipper on both boots to go down all the way (thus preventing me from being able to even put my foot in the boot (!). This upset me greatly because the boot itself is super sleek and stylish. I had to return them because I couldn't get the zipper down and nearly broke my arm trying to do so.

The craftsmanship of the boots was not worth the price...returning to have exchanged and hopefully the new ones will be worth the money.

These are beautiful boots. I get compliments ever where I go. They have a buttery soft shaft. The footbed was a little tight like all well made leather boots but minimal time for it to relax & soften. Zipper in back works perfectly.

Love these boots. Only downside is that the sole is leather, so they are a bit slippery on a smooth floor (i.e. at work). I wear them all the time.

This my second pair only this pair was on sale ! They are the most comfortable,no break-in time. You can put these boots on and go ! I will wear them well into the summer,that’s why I chose the lighter color, they will be great with my summer wardrobe. Frye boots are the best,if you don’t own a pair of these you’re missing out. Amen P.S. The taupeish gray is a beautiful color

These boots are gorgeous!! I absolutely love them, if you’re thinking about getting them- just do it!! You won’t regret it. I did have to send them back for a half size bigger, they were really right on the front part of my foot. I was also a little torn about getting the extended calf. I gained weight and am a little heavier than I normally am. I measured my calf and it was exactly 15.5 inches. I read the reviews and some said it fit and some didn’t. So I went for it and ordered them. They DO fit my calf, and they aren’t too tight.
