Love these boots! I am a proud owner of a few Frye boots and shoes and I already have this pair of boots in the burnt red color so I was fully prepared for the zipper issue others mentioned. My only concern with these was the “smoke” color and if it was more gray or brown. I am happy to say they truly smoke color, like a muddy gray. True to the color pictured. I am however slightly disappointed that these don’t have the same polished sheen that my burnt red pair has. These are much more matte. Still, they’re great and I’m keeping them!

These are absolutely my favorite boots ever, and I’ve owned a few pairs of Fryes. The leather is luxurious and soft, and they’re the perfect height. They go with everything. The best part is I can wear them all day at work and not have sore feet!

Beautiful boots. Can't wait to wear them. Was nervous to buy because of reviews saying calf width was small but they fit me fine with a bit of room for jeans.

I love these boots! I got lucky: I inherited a pair that were lightly used, so they were broken in and do not suffer from problems that others mention here: no problems with the zipper from Day 1, and no rub in heel from the zipper, even though I have been wearing them today with no socks! Do not be afraid of all the comments about narrow shaft size if you are average, like me: I am not super-thin, neither am I big at 140 lbs and 5'7". I am not muscular, I have an average, 14" calf size. I am a size 8.5 M and this fits true to size for me. As for the calf measurement: Zappos states it to be 13." However, my calf is 14" and when I put the boot on and measure, the tape shows a circumference of 15.5." (This is the regular Phillip Harness, not the extended-calf version.) I can put one finger-width into the boot at the top opening. Perfect! Skinny jeans might be a bit of a squeeze, but my main desire is to wear skirts with this boot, as it has such a form-fitting silhouette from the calves through to the ankles, which do not sag. As for comfort, the leather on the "black soft vintage" is soft and buttery, and the lining is deliciously soft. The zipper does not rub, and the heel does not slip. Yay for broken-in boots! I put foot petals in all my Frye's to give additional padding to the balls of my feet. I can wear these all day, and hope to wear these 'til I am 100 years old! These boots are fabulous!

After 7 different knee high Frye styles I tried, thanks to Zappos. I have finally fell in love and decided on this boot. I have skinny calves so a tight shaft super important and these boots look good with shorts, jeans, skirts, boot cuffs! Love the color. True cognac is actually the whiskey in these boots and the cognac is more of a chocolate. LOVE these boots!

I have two pairs of this style of Frye boot. Interestingly enough the left zipper on both are/were hard to zip. All you have to do is apply a little wax to the "sticking" part, zip and unzip the zipper a few times and it begins to improve. Over time the "sticky" zipper is no more. These are beautiful boots that go with everything! Incredible craftsmanship and quality, you cannot go wrong. I find my usual size 7 was a good fit, just not able to wear thick socks with them.

I was a little skeptical about ordering these boots after reading the reviews concerning the malfunctioning zipper. I am so happy I followed my gut and placed the order. These are an awesome pair of boots! The style is timeless, the boots are well made, and the leather is beautiful. I have not found the zippers to be problematic. These boots are true to size. I wear an 8 1/2 and have a bunion which makes shoe buying a little tricky. I ordered an 8 1/2 and was able to wear a sock and still feel comfortable. I am very pleased with my purchase.

These boots are gorgeous! First as far as sizing goes; i am a solid 7.5 in 99% of my boots/shoes, but these felt a little small and pinched my toes so they went back for an 8, perfect w/normal every-day socks. The quality of Frye boots are like no other. Yes, they are pricey BUT they are classic, timeless, not trendy and you will have them forever, never going out of style. I still own my first pair from 13 yrs. ago and they are STILL in Frye's product line! I purchased the dark brown vintage leather. True deep brown, leather is soft and buttery, they are amazing, so is Zappos service!

Love these! I have the skinniest calves ever and shopping for boots is always a nightmare. I tried on at least 20 pairs of boots and these were the ONLY ones that fit my calf! Honesty, I know I have unusually thin, muscular calves and all of my other boots have significant space around that area. These boots fit nicely with enough space for skinny jeans and a tall sock with a little room on me. So, definitely made for people with tiny calves that suffer not ever finding boots narrow enough in the shaft. Definitely not for people who have larger calves! But absolutely beautiful boots, more than I have ever spent on boots before, but once I put them on I simply can't take them off!

OMG! Beautiful! I ordered these in the Dark Brown soft vintage leather and they are gorgeous! I feel they are very true to size as well. I am 5'2, 115 lbs with small calves and these look great. Not too tight around the calf and not too loose. They hit just below my knee. I originally bought these in a store in the Cognac color and while it was a beautiful color as well, I kept these dark brown ones as I feel they will go with more of my wardrobe. I wish I could have kept the cognac ones as well but have to stay on my budget. Next year I will get them in another color. BTW, I also tried the Veronica Slouch and they were much looser around my calves and in my opinion did not look near as beautiful as these Phillip harness boots. Love, love, love!

I bought these boots in black and they are amazingly comfortable from the first time I wore them. These are my fourth pair of Frye boots, and they required no break in period whatsoever (the other three pair did require a brief break in period). I am very petite in height and weight, and the boot shaft fits as snugly as I had hoped it would. They are also the perfect height. I wear a size 6 and they (like my other pairs) are true to size. I also like the edgy somewhat bad-ass look of the style, without being too much so, as I'm 60 years old and I feel comfortable wearing them. They look great with skinny jeans and leggins. They are worth the investment, and are presently my favorite boot to wear.

I have been looking for boots for a year and finally found the perfect pair. I have narrow calves and hated the floppy look most boots had on me. These are not quite snug (can still tuck in jeans, etc) but are still way better than any others I've found. I didn't have any trouble with the zipper. I'm an 8 and ordered and 8 - they fit perfectly. Another thing I like about these boots is that they can go dressy or casual. The harness gives them a little edge, but they are still polished enough for work with skirts, etc.

I bought these boots even after I read the reviews about the zipper being a little stiff and hard to work. I did as one person suggested on a Zappos review: zipped and unzipped the zipper about 20 times when I first received the boots because the zippers did end up being a little stiff. I can definitely say that these are the absolute best boots of any style that I have ever had. They are comfortable, hip, and you can wear them with so many different things. I love these boots! I am going to buy them in black too.

The boot is gorgeous, but it is listed as a 13" calf, and it is definitely not that small. So disappointed, but the boots were huge on my calfs and had to be returned. I ordered the "Black Waxed Veg Calf" and expected the narrow calf, but the boot fits much more like the measurements for the extended version.

Very well made boot, but I found it to be too tight in the toes and calves. I *think* I have normal-sized calves, so I was surprised that I couldn't even zip the boots up on bare legs.

First of all, let me say that my shopping experience with Zappos was great! Received my order when expected, and had no hassles when I had to return my purchase. I'm a girl with very skinny calves who always struggles to find tall boots in which I don't look like I'm totally swimming. I was so hopeful when I saw that the circumference of these boots was only 13", but unfortunately when they arrived I discovered they still were not small enough to fit my calves properly. I think anyone with average-size calves will really enjoy these boots. Sadly, my quest continues to find a pair that works for my skinny legs.

This is a beautiful boot and very comfortable. Unfortunately, the top of the boot was just slightly too large for my calves, so I had to return them. I have very, very tiny legs (size 00), and these were almost small enough but perhaps an inch too large in circumference. If you are looking for a quality, casual boot and you have smaller than normal (but not excessively small) calves, give these a try.

I liked them but didn't love them, they were too tight to wear with skinny jeans. Quality and style was great thought so I may try another pair of frye's in the near future. LOVE ZAPPOS easy return policy and speedy delivery!

Great boot! calf is snug but not too tight. Is a touch narrow across the ball of my foot but I'm sure it will stretch out with wear. My only problem is that the leather sole is a bit slick, I will have to take them to a cobbler and have some tread applied.

Very bummed that I have to return these. Beautiful boot but they were very tight. I only had them on for about 30 minutes in my house the top of my toes hurt. I wear a size 10M and finding boots that fit is hard (I feel most aren't a true 10). They were very tight on the calf (I have average size) and the zipper is up the back of this boot and I had a very hard time zipping them. The left boot was very hard to even zip up

I ordered these in black soft vintage leather. They look good, but like other reviewers mention, the zippers don't work well around the heel, which is concerning. How will they hold up in the long run? Also the leather looks a little more weathered than I would like. I feel like for the price I would be paying, I should absolutely love these, and I like them a lot, but don't absolutely love.

These are great boots for women whose shoe sizes are above 7 and have smaller circumference calves. My shoe size is 8 and my calf circumference at the largest point is 13½" (standard width). I am between a size 7½ and 8, but I recommend sizing up if the boots feel tight. The leather is stiff and didn't stretch all that much over two weeks of continuous wear. The opening of the boot measures about 13¾" on a size 8, so if your calves are the same size as mine, you can wear jeans and thick socks with them. The boots are a bit heavier than a dressy boot and look a little chunky. For casual boots, this is fine and they still look dressier than most casual boots. I would not say that you could wear them with business casual type outfits, but they will go nicely with casual outfits of all kinds. Although the boot shaft fit me nicely, there is some room in the calf portion that can make your calves look bigger than they are. Not a big deal as the extra room for socks and jeans is cool. The quality of the leather is outstanding. These boots look like they will last a long time (three years if cared for nicely).

I just received these boots in Dark Brown Soft Vintage, size 8, which is my normal size. First off, let me say the color is absolutely extraordinary - a very deep brown, almost like a dark burgundy. Gorgeous. And contrary to the photo here, the heels are a dark brown as well, not the light brown distressed as shown, which I was very happy about. Unfortunately for me, with my 13 inch calves, there is still a good inch and a half in the circumference around my skinny legs. I am going to inquire at a shoe repair place to see if they can take them in for me, because unlike some other boots the ankle width is nice and slim, so if the calves are taken in it won't look weird. If they can't do it though, I'll have to send these back. They are so nice!

Too big in the calf and not what I was looking for. Might work if you have more athletic legs and want a kind of motorcycle boot look. Not a bad boot just not for me.

Cute, felt like high quality leather, but too tall for petite women (I am 5'0"). Must return but sorry.
