These are very sturdy for a low-top and one can feel the quality. You know your feet are protected. Out of the box they will need to be broken in and in general they feel hard but I think that will lead to longevity.

I think salomon shoes are the best I've had so far, they offer the best support, durability and comfort of any other shoe I've tried before. I have the XA Pro 3D without gortex and decided to get the gortex model for winter wet weather. The gortex makes them much stiffer but that is the price for the added protection. Excellent support and comfort, I bought them mostly for golf but I wear them for everything else. Zappos service is the best as always.

This is my third pair of XA Pro 3D Ultras. The first two were made in China; this latest pair was made in Vietnam. It seems about a half size too big, and maybe wider, too. I might've tried a half size smaller, but I needed them for a trip, so I kept them, and they're okay. Still great shoes. My other quibble with the latest model is that the lace end clasp doesn't fit the lace pull properly. Not a big deal, as I just shove all the slack lace in the pocket made for that anyway.

I had the previous model of these shoes without Goretex and loved them. They have changed the tongue setup with this version (more padding and different attachment). The Goretex liner really stiffens them up and extends the break in time. We will have to see how that progresses. I kind of wish they had not made the recent changes.

Got a pair of these to replace my aging pair of last generation XA's that I practically live in. Sadly, I just returned them because they were stiff, narrow and the higher backs were rubbing my achilles raw. As a satisfied owner of four previous pairs of Salomons of various models, I sure hope they get this worked out.

Great shoe for a few months! The last 3 pairs that I've had, the eyes that aren't reinforced will break and the lace rips right through. this is the newest style and they fixed one of them (the outside eye) but the inside eye isn't. Just a warning.

Durable shoe. Love the fact it is easy to get in to and strap down quickly. The pocket on the tongue securely holds the fastener and excess paracord. I find the shoes pretty comfortable and supportive for use extended use. I have not had any traction issues on any surface so far.

This is just an all around sold shoe, looks great for casual wear. Great for work, and hiking. I own last years version as well, and they just keep getting better. Super comfortable after a short break in period. But some shoes hurt my heels, these do not.

I love them. Just one thing, I wish they would make a wide. I had to a 1/2 size larger than normal to compensate. People with wide feet enjoy top of the line also??

Well, I haven't taken them into rocky terrain yet, but I was standing ankle deep in a puddle yesterday without a drop getting through. When I wear these shoes I feel like I'm "strapped in" and ready to take on anything. These were the 2nd pair of trail shoes I got after returning the Patagonia Drifter A/C Gore-Tex for being too heavy, too bulky, and too high off the ground. The speed lacing system allows for easy in and out. I'm definitely a fan...these are possibly the coolest shoes I've ever owned.

These are great shoes, they keep your feet dry. This is my at least my seventh pair! They look great! Zappos ships on time every time. I have ordered over 20 pairs of shoes and am never disappointed!

I have put about 200 miles on these now. About 100 miles were on rough terrain - lava fields, granite, and ice carrying maybe 25 pounds - with the remainder on asphalt. Waterproofing has held despite numerous tears in the outer material, typically around where the lacing attaches. Fit was stiff at first but it got better with use. I wear these nearly every day and the treads still provide great grip on wet surfaces. Lacing system worked well initially and could be adjusted even while wearing gloves (nice). But the lock no longer holds and the laces have to be re-tightened often. I expected greater durability for the price but I'm not sure what Salomon expected the typical life to be, maybe I've exceeded that. And the feature I was most concerned about - the lacing system - has proven to be the life limiter with the sloppy lace locks and tearing material. They also look well extremely worn although they are only about a year old. I wore Salomon shoes in the past and even those didn't seem as durable as some other brands. Would recommend strengthening the lacing attachments to prevent tear outs and also reinforce the "catch pockets" where the laces are tucked. Stitching on these on both shoes have torn out. I would buy again but not at the original price. Overall: good but not great. Nothing special here, but they functioned as intended (for a time).

Have been wearing these infrequently for about six months and the mesh on the tongue where you tuck in the lace has shredded. Seems to be a quality issue. Otherwise great shoe, very comfortable and true to size.

Shoes have literally disintegrated on the top close to the seams. The waterproof material is brittle and gets perforated by the sewing machine weakening the integrity. I wish I could attache a photo of the 4 holes (2 on each shoe) and how water would easily penetrate. It is a bad design although, very comfortable and will fit like a glove. What a shame. Do not buy these shoes.

Great trail shoe. Not ideal wearing around the city. Love the waterproofing of the shoe, feet stayed dry.

These are wonderful shoes. They are very comfortable and good for everyday use. Whether on the trail or at work. I like that they are light weight and still warm. I use them on our winter trails here in Alaska and they keep my feet dry and warm.

My husband doesn't hike but he is walking all day at his job. I needed a shoe with great support, slip resistant, and toe protection and these fit all those requirements. This is his second pair of the same shoe and he is (unbelievably) happy with them.

Incredible shoe. I'm a hard to fit size 14 W. This shoe looks smaller than my bare foot, but allows easy entry and a perfect, glove-like fit.

This is the 3rd pair of this shoe I have owned. The first two pairs I bought from REI. They wear well and are water proof. I have been hard them using them for hopping on rocks and riding bikes with BMX like pedals that have short spikes. I like them and Zappos delivered with no fuss or muss.

I bought these at an REI garage sale. I did not know what I had until I got home and looked them up on Zappos. I think perhaps the clerk made an error in pricing. These are fantastic shoes. The first time on, I worked all day at landscaping work, up and down hills, in dirt, in mud, and they were awesome. Your foot feels so well held and protected, and I have picky feet. I highly recommend these. Try to find them on sale!

Bought a pair that lasted almost 2 years with constant use in bad weather and the winter and working as a bartender in a bar (wear them 4 days a week from Fall to Spring... switch over to lighter shoes come shorts season). Held up great, in fact longer than any other pair of shoes I've used for the same purposes. Am buying another pair now that it is time to retire the ones I currently have.

My 3rd pair of Salomon's. I'm always impressed by the design & construction of this footwear. Comfort & style at their best.

I am a golfer who does not wear golf shoes. I play mostly in the mornings when the grass is extremely wet. Therefore it is necessary the shoes I wear are waterproof as well as comfortable. I wore Merrell's for many years but recently, their shoes do not hold up to the waterproof category. These Salomon shoes do all that is necessary, keep my feet dry and are very comfortable to walk 18 holes.

This has become my favorite shoe, not just for Day hiking and light overnighters but as my daily knock around shoe. It fits great, is true to size, looks good and I love the cable lacing system. Quick of and off but able to get just the right amount of tension when needed. I will get another pair in the darker color just for change sake. Zappos had them to me faster than expected...I love their service and will always try to use them first.
