All in all this is a great mountain running shoe. I live in Juneau, Alaska surround by steep mountainous terrain. Good traction on loose rocks and mud, slightly slick on wet rocks. The tongue moves slightly when running off camber on steep terrain, but over a long day in the mountains it was not enough to cause discomfort. The speedcross is slightly heavier than the Cascadia's with a more weather resistant outer, lower heel and slightly less forefoot cushioning.

These make may foot roll outward and also accentuate bow-leggedness. Maybe partly due to the huge black heal that protrudes inward. I hate sneakers that do that. It also puts more pressure on my hips and other places and makes me feel less centered and balanced and in control. Just not the right design for me and my less than perfect shortish legs. I need to feel like I'm pushing of the center part of my feet when I walk, not the outward. I prefer shoes that help my feet and knees roll inward and do not have extra bulk at the heel or other inner area that gets in the way of that. Allows for better control of my stance and posture too, as well as gait, which is important in active sports and hiking, where you need that feeling of confidence. So these will have to go back. Will probably try another style of Salomons, as I do like their footbed and roominess. The other pair of higher ones I tried did not have this problem at all and both looked and felt great in that sense, but on those the rim area just above the ankle was way too stiff and I had to return them too. It's so hard to find a comfortable, functional and reasonably flattering pair of sport shoes. I do find that the ones that look good on me also tend to be the more comfortable ones for my build.

I am normally a size 10 and I ordered these in a size 10. They were a tad tight when I put them on, however after one time of wearing them, I am glad I got my true size, they fit perfect. I would not recommend these for walking or standing all day, my heels hurt in them from standing all day at work (8 hours. They are great for running errands though!

I bought these to satisfy my winter running needs (and a 50k in January). It's a functional shoe for running in the snow so far, as I've only put about 50 miles on them. True to test, I took them out on some trails and back country roads while it was snowing with a base coat of ice and they functioned well. My feet didn't get wet and I didn't slip once! They are rather rigid/stiff with quite a bit of support if you're used to minimalist shoes. I also ordered a half size smaller than my traditional running shoe size (normally 8, here I ordered a 7.5) and it fits well. On another note, the colors are great and highly visible. Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase, but likely will not purchase another pair. Next purchase of this kind, I plan to go with the Merrell Ascend Glove Gore-Tex because I've found that no matter what shoes I try, I always go back to Merrell (my feet believe them to set the standard in comfort and functionality (for trail and/or road running)).

Salomon just never disappoints. This one will hug your feet and grasp the ground like your life depends on it. Great shoe for the trails. Colors pop out for increased visibility. I just wished there were a couple of reflectors for that short strip of street running just when am done on the trails but this shoe really has most of the requirements for effective trail runners. It does feel a half size larger but I suppose most running shoes do to give room for expansion. Great shoes and of course complemented by Zappos' really superb service. You guys have really made a loyalist out of me.

Definitely run a half size large. I am a true size 8.5 and I had to return for a size 8. I also have a very wide foot. The colors are great. I have a pair of Salomon shoes from years ago which I finally decided to replace with these which have more traction. I love that they are water resistant. I have not run in them yet, but I will need a heavier sock. They really do run large.

I have been a HUGE fan of the X Mission 3 Solomon...I have bought every color available & wear them until my feet & knees hurt (this is the sign that after the pounding I give these shoes at Zumba & running...they're shot!) I ordered the Speedcross 3 this time & my feet felt like they were squozen, and during exercise the bottom of my toes & balls of my feet went to sleep. Loosened the straps 4 times. they just don't fit ME as well as the X Mission 3.

Out of the box, these shoes do not provide tons of comfort. The base is hard. Maybe my girly feet are accustomed to more cushioning, whatever the reason these shoes required inserts. I learned the hard way that water resistant is not remotely close to waterproof. As such, my socks were often soaked after a morning walk/run. I am not known to be hard on shoes, but after one year of owning this pair I have worn through the sole and have a tear in the nylon near my toes. I found the lacing system difficult to loosen and tighten on the fly. It often took two hands, and took some adjusting to get it right. In the past I have been a big fan of this brand. However for the money, I did not think the quality was there on this model. I am going with Merrell or Brooks for my next pair.

Love the color and the heel cushion is great. However if you have a moderately high arch these will be a little tight. These are supposed to be trail shoes, but they are definitely thin in the front. IMHO they'e better as a track shoe.

Weird...I read the reviews and was excited about getting a new pair of water-resistant running shoes. I have enjoyed a few pairs of Gore-Tex shoes over the past few years. I appreciate dry feet. These shoes are not Gore-Tex. My socks are wet after the first 100 feet in morning dew grass. Wet socks, not damp. I have not encountered water-resistance with these shoes. No...(laughing), I have been on about 15 runs in these shoes -- summer time, Ozarks. They are not breathable like Gore-Tex. The fit is okay. The soles are what I would define as rigid. I mostly run trails and rigid shoes make me have sloppy foot work over time and weak ankles. They remind me of hiking boots which is not what I want for running rocky trails, dirt and grass. They kinda make me run flat-footed. Odd shoes. They are not horrible, just okay. Not the best I have had. I am going to go back to the brand I have liked. First time for me trying Salomon's. I do think they are cute!

When I received these, there was no padding in the shoe at all, very thin material around the ankles. I'm hoping I received the wrong item, and I did return them. The photo shows a nicely padded shoe. Not what I got.

These shoes are sized oddly, the 5-1/2 is actually 36-2/3 and the 6 is 37-1/3, which meant that the 5-1/2 was too small and the 6 was too large (I wear an actual size 6 or 37). They have those awful thin laces with the plastic tightener and you are supposed to hide the excess inside a little pocket in the tongue. The tightener got stuck when I was trying them on and for a moment I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get them off. The foot-bed seemed fairly comfortable and they look kind of cool but I can't recommend them and am sending them back. Zappos is awesome!

I normally wear an 8 or 8.5, and I had to go up to a 9 to get the right length. At a 9, the toe box is still too narrow -- I had only to stand up to note that they would mash my toes to bits if I tried to hike or run in them. A shame -- I love the color, and the rubber spikes felt very grippy.

Awesome looking shoe. Lots of compliments. Great heal and arch support. Unfortunately after only 2.5 months the tread on the outside of my shoes is completely worn down. I didn't expect this based on the reviews for this product. Also after time the cushion on the ball of my foot has worn down. It didn't take long for the sole of this shoe to break down. I bought it because I'm a dog walker, vegan and broke my foot in July so needed a great vegan shoe, and this being a hiking/running show I expected it to last.

The Salomon Speedcross 3 sizing is on the large side. I usually wear a 7.5 trail running shoe & my feet swam in these! I did think the easy release laces would be fantastic, if the shoes fit correctly.

I was so excited to get these sneakers based on the reviews, which were all super positive. And while everyone is right that they are comfortable, I bought them for more for their water resistance. Which is just not there. The first puddle left me with a sopping wet sock and shoe. Hugely disappointed in these sneakers because they were touted as waterproof and they are certainly not even close.

Based on others reviews I ordered a half size down and they didn't fit. They weren't super snug, but not big enough. I just really didn't like the way they felt either. They felt narrow and turned my feet. I was really hopeful based on others loving them. They are back in the box on their way back.

WARNING: If you have a narrow foot and the laces are tied tight, you will have loose plastic piece dangling when you run or walk. This plastic piece can attach to the other shoe. This happened to me and it was like being lassoed. I am nursing a painful knee injury as a result of this TRIP HAZARD. Were it not for this SERIOUS MALFUNCTION issue, I think the shoes are great for trail running.
