This is the holy grail of boots! I have been searching for a quality leather boot to put an end to my annual purchases of two or three pairs of synthetic boots with toes that end up scuffed with the synthetic material peeling off in no time. I have never spent over so much on any type of shoe, but like so many other reviewers, I just kept gazing longingly at these. I ordered a 7½ rather than my usual 7 based on reading other reviews. They seem great in the length and width. The heel is pretty stiff right now, but I noticed another reviewer who noted that her heel needed a good breaking-in period, so I am hoping for the same. My actual calf measures at about 14½" and is pretty athletic. I purchased the extended calf because I was having trouble finding boots in other brands that would fit comfortably over skinny jeans with boot socks peeking out the top. The Veronica fits well with my jeans and socks and is a little more slouchy with leggings. These are, without a doubt, the nicest, most well-made boots that I have ever owned.

These are a must buy! As a petite but fit woman, I've always had a difficult time finding boots to fit my legs. The shaft is shorter than most tall boots so the widest part of the boot hits the widest part of my calf resulting in a perfect fit. Comfortable right out of the box. Runs a little small and narrow, in my opinion.

These are my favorite boots! I bought the wide calf, because one of my calves is larger and they are perfect! I have the black and would like to buy the brown next. There is no break in time and the leather smells amazing! The cushioning on the bottom, makes these even more comfortable! I have worn these all day and had no discomfort!

After much trial and error, buying and returning several pairs of boots inferior to these, I decided to end the madness and go for the true quality for which Frye is known. I am glad I did. These boots are truly gorgeous. I got them in the Dark Brown. The leather is supple, yet substantial. I intend to do nothing but oil them when they need it, as I don't mind if they darken and keep their rustic look. I find the fit is perfect, with no slipping on the heel that others described, even with only medium-weight socks. I generally wear medium width, but have occasionally found some shoes that fit in narrow, so it is possible that these might be slightly on the narrow side. That's good, though, since good leather like this will ease and form to your foot with a few wearings. For me, these boots were comfortable right out of the box. The shaft is a great fit for my 14 1/2 inch calves. I had no idea my skinny calves were now considered too big for most tall boots! They are loose enough to easily fit over skinny jeans, but also look great with tights or big wooly socks. I can't say enough good about these boots. Yes, they are pricey, but if you've ever examined a Frye boot, comparing it to all the cheap imported boots available, you can see why. They are NOT carelessly machine-made or mass-produced. They are carefully crafted of quality materials, which makes them worth every penny. Go ahead and get these boots. You know you want them.

I have searched and searched for wide calf boots, with no luck and I hit the jackpot with these. Great boots, but I'm returning them because I ordered the wrong size. They are true to size, so don't go up. I needed a wide calf and these were actually a little too big. I love the boots, but I was looking for something a little bit dressier. If I were looking for casual, I would re-order these in a size smaller. The leather is so soft and smells wonderful. My calves are 17" and these were about a 1/2 " too big. Look great with jeans, but I was looking for something dressier and with a boot shaft that was a little less loose.

I cannot rave enough about these boots! I put them on and it was like a match made in heaven. I have tried about every boot on, and never been able to fit them on my calves. I don't have large legs (5'5 150 lbs), which confuses me because I see much larger women wearing boots comfortably. Either way, the leather on these boots was super soft. The color has enough "vintage" feel to be casual, but still sleek enough to dress them up. They felt like they were pretty true to size, and they do slide off your heel a little bit, but I think that's just part of the "slouchy" look (I have Uggs that do the same thing). They mold more to my foot every time I wear them, classic Frye boots that will last a lifetime!

As someone who is just over 5 feet tall with a curvy figure, I have never been able to find a knee-high boot that fits - either they are way too tall or not wide enough around the calf. With that in mind, I ordered these boots fully expecting to return them and resign myself to being bootless (at least of the knee-high variety). These were delivered at lightning-speed to my front porch, and are the best boots ever! Comfortable, great fit, and durable for Colorado winters. I can't recommend them enough. Measurement-wise, my calf circumference is 15 inches, and the size 7 1/2 boots are a terrific fit. Order them and don't look back!

I love these boots!!! I had to return my first pair because they didn't fit just right. So glad I did because I am so happy with these. I am normally a 7.5-8 and ended up having to purchase and 8.5. The larger size will be better for thicker socks anyway. Frye boots are an investment and you won't regret it!

These boots are not cheap. I tested them inside for days. Originally I wanted the Melissa Button Back Zip, but they did not work with my calves. Oh well. So got these. I Expected lots of break in time and blisters. Not so! They were quite comfortable, even barefoot from the beginning. I will wear them and wear them and wear them. They are very good quality, another level of craftsmanship. You get what you pay for in this case. The only reason style got four stars is that I wish that I could get the other ones. But these are very nice.

So far I love these boots. I have 16in calf with skinny jeans on and these are great. I had no problem getting them on but I did order a 1/2 size up so I could wear thicker socks with them in the winter. If you have trouble finding boots to fit your calf, give these a try.

I have always wanted a pair of Frye boots, but the prices have always scared me off. I tended to buy less expensive boots - but as they say: you get what you pay for. I finally sucked it up and bought a pair of the wide calf Veronica slouch boots in black, and I'm so glad I did. I play soccer, and have muscular calves, and have a tough time finding boots that fit them, but these do. Barely. They're comfortable, the leather is wonderfully soft, and you can tell they're well made and will last for years to come. I hope to pass them down to my daughter some day - who is only 3. I plan on getting the brown, as well as a pair of the shorties.

Finally a boot for those of us with athletic calves (or those that could stand to lose a few pounds, like me)! I measured my calves and they are right at 16" and these fit great, even with leggings or jeggings. I'm a short gal at 5'2", and the height is great. Not quite as high as other riding boots I have, and much more proportional to my shorter legs. I ordered the brown, and I'll be honest, it's not exactly as I pictured. The leather is surely soft and supple, but the finish has a bit if a texture to it that I wasn't expecting. It will certainly be just fine, but I had expected a smoother finish. This is my 5th pair of Frye's and the first with this low of a heel. It will take a bit to break these is as the sole is pretty stiff, but otherwise feels great. I will say that I must like my boots a bit on the larger size and my other Frye's are all my regular 7 though many people say that they are a bit big. When I ordered a 7 in these, they were tight across the toe box, so I sent them back for a 7.5 and couldn't be happier.

I love these boots so much! I have large calves (16" or so) but these fit perfectly. After reading other reviews, I ordered a 9 instead of an 8½ and the shaft is the perfect width and the foot bed has enough room to wear winter socks and put a gel insole in. The leather is beautiful and these boots are very high quality. The shaft height is perfect for me too; I am short so any boot too short cuts my legs in half, but too tall overwhelms my legs - but these hit about 5" below my knee. Another plus is the heel - I wanted boots I could wear all day without pain, and these have a low heel, but still have a high heel sound when you walk (how awesome is that?). Buy them, you will not regret it!

Love! Have gone back and forth trying so many less expensive versions of a motorcycle boot for months now and finally took the plunge and ordered the Veronica in Black. So happy! I have a few other pairs of Frye's and find that I'm always most comfortable when I order 1/2 size up. So I ordered them in 7 1/2 and they are perfect. Just enough room to be comfortable, not slip but wear thicker socks in the winter. I'm 5' 4" and my calves measure 16 1/2". I can never find boots that allow me to slip my jeans into them, but with these, I have no problem. I wore them right out of the box, running errands around town and they were like heaven with no rubbing or blisters. Good rubber grip on the bottom so no slipping and the heel is perfect. These are expensive boots but so worth the price. And oh yeah, they're cute! Felt like a rock star wearing them. Love!

Just received today and this boot seems great! I didn't realize I had "athletic"/large calves until I ordered the Paige Trapunto. The Trapunto was stretched to the limit in the back calf area which made it look silly. I measured my calves, 16in, and decided on the Veronica Slouch wide calf. Zappos was AWESOME! They let me do an exchange over the phone so the money from the other boot was put toward these. I wear an 8.5 sneaker and got these in an 8.5. Fit was perfect. Definitely recommend for the larger calf girls!

Summary: Looks super and really not that wide at all. Wow. I am having one heck of a time finding a boot that fits my leg. Can not imagine how hard it would be if I was actually a much bigger person. As is, I'm pretty average with what I like to call "sturdy German ankles." These gorgeous boots have everything Frye is known for, and the foot bed was a little bit narrow for my mid to average foot. The leg shaft is perfect with a bare leg. With socks, they are too tight. A lot of stretching would have to happen. In no way would I qualify this as a wide boot though.

My search has finally ended. For most of my adult life I have searched for a quality pair of boots that would go over my athletic calves. Because the search had previously been unsuccessful, I primarily wore ankle and calf height boots. Those boots were and are great but I have always wanted to rock a pair of boots that are taller than my calves. Finally, these fit the bill. Beautiful soft leather (you never go wrong with Frye's), nice shaft height (about 2 - 3 inches below my knee), and most importantly, they glide right over my 16 inch calves with room to spare. I normally wear a size 8.5 and ordered these in a 9 figuring I could use the extra 1/4 inch in the circumference. They work fine. I just strap the top all the way to the last hole and wear socks with them, which also helps preserve my pedi! A beautiful pair of boots. I am very pleased.

I am still on the fence about keeping these lovely boots. I wish that they were wider in the calf than I had anticipated. Seems that the left boot doesn't go around my calf as easily as the right. I wish that they came up higher to the knee.

Ok, first off, Zappos, y'all are creeping me out. I ordered these awesome boots yesterday afternoon, and they were on my front step when I got home from work today. How? You guys rock! Now the boots: These are my third pair of Fryes, all purchased here. I normally wear about a size 8.5 but I have a pair of Veronica shorties in that size, and they are fine, but I wanted room for socks, probably an insole in this pair. I got a nine. I shy away from taller boots, being the owner of about a 16-inch calf, but these are wonderful. They slipped on easily, I can tuck my jeans in with room to spare, and the dark brown has highs and lows in the coloring that give them a nice, rugged feel. The foot feels stiff at first, and I've come to expect that with Fryes. Give them time to break in. I know I will wear these often. Seriously, if you're a girl who normally can't indulge in a boot that hits around the calf, give these a try! Zappos will warp them to your front door, or however it is they do that.

Fell in love with these boots from the moment I saw them. They are beautiful and true to size, if I could wear them everyday I would. Definitely getting them in more colors. :)

I love these boots! They actually fit my large calves with enough room for a pair of skinny jeans! Unfortunately I got the regular size I get in Frye's, a 9, and they were too big. My heel was sliding in the back so they must go back for a 8.5. For all those big calved gals, these are your boots sista!

I love these boots. I have been wearing them every chance I get. They are comfortable enough to wear all day. I wear them to work and out and about. I definitely recommend these.

I wear these almost every day! Perfect fit. After about 2 months the top buckle broke, which was surprising because Frye is such a good quality boot. I called Zappos and they sent me a new pair the next day. I returned the other pair and have not had any problems. I appreciate the outstanding customer service!

I have wide calves and they have made it nearly impossible to find boots that fit right. I had a pair that were great, but they were cheap and wore out in less than a year. The Frye wide calf Veronica Slouch was a dream come true! I can wear them with tights and jeans! Woo Hoo! I was apprehensive about spending the money on them, but after going to literally every shoe store with an hour of my house in every direction I finally realized I needed to choose quality and comfort above all else. These are great. And Zappos was amazing with their customer service. The most friendly helpful team I have ever dealt with. I love my Frye boots and I love Zappos!

I have to join the choir that the other review mentioned! I have tried several wide-calf boot styles and always settled- I really wanted a Frye boot...This is it! I am a size 9 and typically cannot pull up any boot without a zipper. These boots are amazing. They fit comfortably right out of the box - fit a wider calf and make me feel like shouting for joy - the construction/materials are exactly what you'd expect from Frye. I want them in 300 colors.
