I just received these today, and they are exactly what I was expecting. While the leather is a little stiff, it isn't too bad, and I would actually prefer it that way, personally. As you break them in they will be like a pair of raw denim and conform to your leg rather than being a soft leather from the manufacturer. The smell of leather as I opened the box was pretty overpowering. I purchased the black, and they are a very nice black boot with just enough distressing to add some interest. The bottom of the boot looks like it will have enough traction to be stable enough through a slick & Icy Wisconsin winter, which is a must. Which is another reason I chose this boot over the Carmen 14L. They both have similar looks, but the Carmen is Suede, and suede won't hold up well with salt and daily exposure to snow. These will. I love the buckles, very understated but add some interest. These are also very comfortable, and if they are comfortable now, they will be even better in a few months. The most important thing you need to know is that these definitely run large. I normally wear about a 9 and ordered these in a 9 but they were literally slipping right off my foot. I am sizing down to an 8.5, and I think that will be perfect. People who run right between sizes may want to size down a full size. Overall, I love these. I think they are a beautiful, well constructed boot with just enough detail. They will pair well with a lot of different outfits, and I am so excited to wear them!

I ordered 3 pairs of Frye boots to try, and this is the pair I'm keeping. I have a very high instep and usually have trouble with slip-on boots, but not with this pair. Easy on, easy off. The leather is soft and comfortable. I ordered a 1/2 size down, and my heel does still slip a little, but it's not terrible. I'm hoping as I wear them, they'll get more comfortable.

I loved these boots. Unfortunately, I had to return them. I have a thin calf and they just didn't look good on my leg. I am heartbroken because they had all the qualities that I was looking for in a boot.

I absolutely love these boots but I had to exchange them once before finding the perfect pair. The first pair were constructed from different hides - the left boot was thinner, lighter leather and the right one was a thicker, darker leather. I am so glad that I was persistent because these have been my favorite boots of the season. They have received tons of compliments!

I absolutely love these boots! I have muscular calves & after trying on several pairs of boots, I have finally found a pair of tall boots that fit well. These are hands down my favorite. I also purchased the Frye Veronica boots, which is a similar look without the heel or shaft height. Both pairs of boots are very well made & comfortable. I ordered my regular size in both styles & found that the Vera fits a little bit looser than the Veronica, but that is easily resolved with a thicker sock. Thank you Zappos for always making shoe shopping a pleasant experience!

I was disappointed in these boots. I have a few pairs of Frye boots, and for these to be on the top end of the price level they looked cheap. The upper leather was very, very thin, and the color did not match the picture; it was less distressed looking. Not worth the price.

I ordered these and the Carmen 14L inside zip, both size 8. The Vera Slouch, hands down, without a doubt are being sent back. They are super cute but they are very hard and inflexible. I knew immediately that these were going back. The leather that goes over the front is so hard that I did not even bother walking in them. These are definitely not worth the big bucks.

These boots are beautiful. Even my husband who hates the jeans in boots look immediately told me these boots were hot. I have large wide feet - normally a 10.5 normal to wide width. I got a 10 and these feel a little big but I'm keeping them for thicker socks and b/c I'm used to walking in shoes too big for me (almost always have to get an 11). Ladies with larger calves, these actually FIT my calf - albeit tightly. The strap at the top really helps widen it to fit that extra bit of calf muscle (or fat in my case :). Gorgeous, gorgeous.

The best boots. They fit great as soon as I put them on. Very comfortable, stylish and timeless. They go with everything - jeans, dresses, skirts, etc. I never spend this much money on footwear, but I know I will wear these forever. High quality Frye craftsmanship - these boots will will last.

Love these boots. As soon as I opened the box and the smell of leather hit me, I was a goner. They are very well made and comfortable. The sizing is generous so you can wear thick socks but I'm glad I didn't size down.

Loved the way these boots look. I have large calves and have no problem with the fit. These boots come right up under my knees. They work perfectly with skinny jeans. Overall, the look is very casual- the big rounded toe and the distressed leather give these a rugged feel. These look great with jeans and a long cardigan for fall.

Beautiful boots, I do love them. I have medium to wide feet, high insteps and long toes. I ordered my regular size, and they seemed big. Got a half a size down and they were too small, and the shaft was shorter and tighter. I realized then that it was not that my regular size was too big but that for me, there is a lot of heel slippage. They should mold nicely to my feet, if I decide to keep them. My major issue with them is the price; they simply are NOT worth it. The shaft is unlined- yes, I know they are slouch boots, but still. They are over priced, but I know that goes for all Frye boots not made in the US (these are made in Mexico), but the price is really turning me off. I guess I am just used to the classic, heavy, lined Fryes which are so much cheaper and which last forever. These seem a little flimsy to me. I doubt they'll hold up as long as my other Fryes. Might just wait till they go on sale, or maybe I'll just put them away for a few weeks and start wearing them when the sting's gone:)

I love this boot. There's no beating its style. I've worn it more than I expected -- with skirts, over fitted jeans, under wide leg jeans, etc. The toe box was a little narrow for my right foot (I've always had this problem with cowboy-style boots), but I had the boot stretched at a local boot shop and that did the trick. I recommend insoles as well.

I returned these. They are not worth the money! These are far inferior to the Frye Carson Buckle boots that I just ordered, yet they charge the same retail price! The painted rubber heel, unlined shaft, and junky looking antique finish should have put these boots in a much cheaper price range. They are quite pricey for junky boots with cheap components!

I sent these boots back in the end. I knew I would never be happy with them because they are definitely not worth the price and the leather feels cheap. I ended up buying the Frye Sabrina 14L and also the Sabrina lace up boots. Absolutely exquisite. I had no hesitation about keeping both pairs as they are beautifully made and very comfortable. Why the Vera's are so expensive is beyond me... I'd pay a little less for a pair and that's about my limit. :)

Love my new boots! Had to size down as they are a half size larger in fit than normal and even still quite roomy. Great with skinny jeans or dresses and knee highs! Color goes with everything. Even though I had to size down and return on pair Zappos made it easy with their printable free return labels!

Frye boots are the best! The leather is supple and soft and the color is beautiful. I have the slate burnished antique color, and it goes with about everything. The heel is a great height that gives a short gal like me at only 5'3" a bit of a lift, but I don't feel like I'm in "heels." The lug sole gives lots of traction, which is honestly better than the leather sole that most Frye boots have. As for the fit - overall it's great. I normally wear a size 7, and these fit well. I can see where people might get a half size smaller than their normal size, but I like to have a bit more room so I can wear thick socks in the winter. I will say that the very top of the shaft was a bit tight the first time I put the boots on, but I plan to stretch them a bit. The rest of the fit is fantastic and I know that these will be my new go-to boot.

Oh, these are just gorgeous boots. They fit my large calves just as easily as the Veronica Slouch, and the leather is soft and lovely. However, the color of the "Dark brown burnished/antiqued" is way darker than the Zappos photo. It's a lovely color, but not at all what I was expecting. I should have probably figured that out from the name of the color, but I've never noticed such a discrepancy with Zappos photos before. Totally bummed. I love them, but I don't want to spend hundreds on boots that aren't what I was shopping for.

I love Frye boots! They last forever and fit so well. I did get them in the cognac like color and I love them. I wear them with everything. The great think about the leather on this is that it is very soft, so you can really get a nice slouch in, or else, you can wear them pulled up. The first time I wore them, I went to a concert afterwards and my feet were not sore, nor any blisters. Definitely worth it!

These boots are my go to boots. I am 5'3 with a 15 inch calf. Very often boots are too tight in the shaft for my leg, but these are a perfect fit. Initially I ordered an 8, which is my actual size, the toes area was perfect, but the heel was slipping. Zappos then sent me a 7 1/2 to try, free of charge, and that one was tight across the instep, which hurt my bunions, but the heel had less slippage. I was very torn about this, because many reviewers said the boots would stretch and be fine. I even took a ride into NYC to the Frye Flagship Store, so I could talk to the sales experts about this. By the way, if you love Frye, that store should be on your list of places to visit in NYC. But you'll pay more there. So...they more or less agreed with most other reviewers and said they "run big" and to size down. I just wasn't comfortable buying a boot that wasn't a perfect fit, and almost returned both pairs. The sales associate said not to be too concerned with the heel slippage, because the leather would mold to my foot, and the heel would begin to move up and down with my foot. Even though I was skeptical about that, I decided since the boot was less expensive on Zappos than at the Frye store, it was a great deal, and I kept the 8. I put a thin Dr. Scholls in and wear a gym sock. It's been about a month and they are the most comfortable boots I own, no heel slip anymore, it's crazy how that really stops! I love the heel, it's pretty high, but feels like a ballet flat, I can wear these 16 hours with no problem. The tan burnished antique is a beautiful spring/summer color, and the dark brown burnished is gorgeous and looks nothing like the picture on Zappos. Check these boots on the Frye website for more accuracy in appearance. Then buy them on Zappos, because the customer service on Zappos is truly excellent!

Love these boots. I own quite a few pair of Frye, and these are now one of my favorites. These fit true to size. One thing I love about the Vera Slouch is the adjustable buckle at the top. I had to let mine out to the last notch so my calves would fit when I have skinny jeans on. I highly recommend these boots!

Color and style are great! I did order a 1/2 size smaller based on other reviews and fit is perfect. Somewhat wide around the calves, so can't wear with dresses, but will work with jeans. Haven't worn yet, as it's still summer.

I am a die-hard Frye fan and I have mixed feelings about these boots. I love the look and the height, but I agree with a couple of the reviewers that the leather that makes up the shaft is thinner than other Fryes (much thinner than my Veronica slouch boots), and they feel cheaper than the usual Frye. Also, the footbed is narrower that some of the other Fryes I have, so I'm a little worried about comfort. I've been spoiled by the lack of break-in generally needed with Frye boots. The video says the boot is lined; that is not completely true as at least one other reviewer pointed out. The foot part is, but the shaft is raw leather inside. The circumference (like nearly every other boot specs on every shoe-selling site!) isn't quite correct, but is closer than the Frye site's specs. The Frye site says these are 13"(eek!) around which is why I hadn't bothered to order them before I saw the previous reviewer mention she had muscular calves and they fit. I wear a 7.5 and my calves are 14.5" these are snug (can't wear these with pants tucked in).
