The buckle only changes the tightness of the top strap. The lower strap was very tight along the top of my foot and tight on my big toe and cannot be changed. These are marked as wide and do not appear nor feel wide AT ALL. Returning.

I don't think this is a true "plus." First, I could not find the plus sizing on Zappo's and by all other searches, it appears to have been discontinedd. Then after ordering normal width, which was wayyy to small, these pop into a search (just a general search, not a Zappo's search). When they arrived, the box had a white label obliterating the "regular" Helen sizing but "plus" didn't appear anywhere on the box, and the shoe itself was not marked "plus" in any way whatsoever. As another reviewer said, the toe hole is excruciatingly narrow. It may have a slightly wider footbed, but you couldn't prove it by me. Something is amiss here.

I love the Helen shoe and own several pairs. I have other styles of Mephisto and they're all wonderful and fit great. I wanted to love the 'Plus' because I have wide feet and tend to push the outer edges of the regular width Helen down over time. The Plus is not the Helen, and it didn't even feel like a Mephisto...the sole was very stiff, and while a tad wider - the majority of the extra room is in the toe area. As other reviewers noted, the fit around the big toe is way off - its very tight. I even tried ordering a different color thinking it was the leather - no luck. Thanks to Zappos, it was a great experience but I would not recommend trying this model.

I have worn the medium width Helen for years and have been very happy with it. I ordered a pair of purple ones. The left sandal was too snug on my foot. (I had tendon surgery last summer. Left me with nerve damage and some permanent swelling.) So I ordered the Helen plus yesterday. Just got them this afternoon. Fits perfectly in the width, but the strap around the big toe is much more snug than on the regular Helen...very uncomfortable. I will return them tomorrow.

First...Zappos, you guys are awesome! I absolutely love your customer service. Second, these shoes are cute and the material feels nice. However, I ordered this in a "wide" and it's nowhere near it. I bought these shoes because of the positive comments about arch support and comfort. There was absolutely no room in these shoes (from the width to the straps). I'm certain they would stretch out but for the price I'm not willing to take that chance and risk being stuck with a pair of shoes that does not fit and is not comfortable for my wide foot. I really wanted to like these shoes too.

I am a long time wearer of Mephisto sandals and decided to try the Plus since I have wide feet. I received my shoes today, and have the same problem that other people had described in their reviews - the toe piece is so tight it was difficult to even get the shoes on. I did manage to get them on but immediately noticed that the Plus does not have the arch support that the regular Helen has. I am returning these for a refund and next time, when reading reviews I will believe them. The shoe width is great but the toe piece is the killer!

Couldn't even get them on my feet, so I don't know how they felt. I would recommend buying two sizes up, which unfortunately is not an option for me since I ordered a size 43. Back they go tomorrow.
