The toe ring was a bit of a pinch -- overnight in the stretcher fixed it, though. Once these are broken in, I believe they will be fine. Not instantly comfortable, though. Good thing they were on sale.

The toe ring was so tight I couldn't get my foot in. Very disappointed. Usually love Mephistos.

I’ve worn “Helen” for years but either the style has narrowed or my feet have widened. The “plus” should have worked but the toe slot is tiny. Had to send them back.

I've always thought the Helen was a bit narrow in the toe box, more so now than when I bought my first pair in 2008. I thought I'd give the Helen Plus a try. Unfortunately, even though I like the width for the toes, the heel cup was too wide and my heel slipped all over the place, no matter how tight I made the strap. Returned and will be sticking with the regular Helens.

I wanted to like this since I've had to jump ship from Birkenstock since their soft bed is not wide enough for me. For the price these Mephistos don't measure up. The buckle is plastic! The style is soooo cute, but the wide is not wide at all across the foot. It fit so tight, I thought I could suffer through the stretching process, but decided that if the leather stretched around the toe, it is then and it would probably be weak and eventually break. The instep strap is nice because it is adjustable and the footbed is oh-so comfortable. The search will continue, so glad zappos has a good selection and order/return is uber easy!

I've worn Mephisto shoes for almost 20 years. Originally made in Belgium and Portugal and were wonderful. Now they are made in France (so they say) but narrower. I placed a very old Helen shoe's base to the newer ones and there's 1/2 inch on each side narrower now. I ordered the wide (Plus) here and they are the width of the original shoes but the toe is curved inward way to far and has no arch support like they were famous for. The toe opening is tight and the shoe is stiff.

The width is so perfect. for me, what is considered a wide width is perfectly normal width, I wish ALL shoes were this width and I would buy them all. However, the 38 length compared to all my other 38's was longer end to end. My foot did not sit right in the back or up to the front. and the 37's were too short? Really wanted them to work. sent them back. nice quality and comfort.

I have been wearing these sandals for many years. This year they made them in wide width so I ordered them. They are not the same, pinching between toes.Have to return them. Bring back the old ones I loved. Don't know what I will be wearing this summer.

I wanted these to fit so badly but I have a bunion on my left foot and they were painful to even try on. I ended up sending them back. It is a beautiful sandal and they look like they are very well made. Sizing is debatable. I ordered some other shoes with this order and the sizing for this seemed to be tight.

Helen's top strap cut into the top of my foot for the first few weeks. I had to wear a band aid there to break them in. Then over the next 2 months, the leather uppers stretched out so much that they are impossible to wear. I bought these because of Mephisto's great name, but I'm disappointed in their quality. But I love Zappos!

I love Mephistos and have 4 pair already but wanted to try the Helen Plus as my feet are a bit wider than medium. The other reviewers who noted that the straps are too tight are exactly right. I had to wedge my foot in and the the circulation was cut off to the big toe of my right foot. The strap that lies across the top of the foot is too tight too. My regular Helens are awesome so I think there was a design flaw with the Plus style. I hope they correct it as the base of the footbed is a better fit for my med-wide foot. But the straps make it impossible to really wear. Because I knew I couldn't wear them long enough to break them in they are being returned. Thanks Zappos for your generous and fair return policy.

Very disappointed that Zappos advertises these as a wide size, then ships a medium. Not even close to fitting my wide size foot and creating a hassle to return.

Its narrower than myother mephistos and the leather is very hard causing me multiple painful blisters ive never had before.

I have several pairs but these are so narrow compared to the others that I don’t want to wear them. Should have warned buyers.

Sadly, I have to return because contrary to my several other Mephisto sandals I can’t get big toe through the opening!!!

I have had Mephisto sandals before - but these are not comfortable - the leather is stiff and hurts on the toe area.

I guess I'm joining the chorus about the toe ring being too tight. The right shoe fit fine but the left shoe big toe area was about a 1/2" smaller and felt like a toe tourniquet! I have regular Mephisto Helens but thought I'd try a pair with a little more room for toe spread. Had the big toe area not been so tight, these would have been great. After reading other reviews, this seems to be a common problem with Helen Plus and is either a design or manufacturing flaw. Don't recommend.

So disappointed. The toe area is very tight and hurt. I should have paid attention to the reviews that said that their big toe hurt. They're going back. Love Zappos.

Believe everyone, the toe loop is way too tight. Too bad because the shoe feels great. I will order the regular and hope for the best.

I cannot truly answer the questions of Size, Width, or Support because I cannot get the shoe on. The reviews declaring the toe box small are all accurate and maybe understated. It is as if the leather strap used on this “plus” footbed is the same size leather strap used on their regular size footbed, thereby making the toe box impossible to get into unless your big toe is extremely flat. It This shoe makes no sense to me.

I ordered one size up and a wide width and could not get my foot in this shoe at all. Not at all. Looked cute.

These sandals are very cute but the toe loop and leather strap are so stiff they are not comfortable. The sole even feels stiff. I have put leather conditioner on them and still feels horrible and hurt my feet. Too much money to spend on shoes that aren't comfortable and need so much TLC I'm hoping they soften up eventually. I have other mephisto sandals and they were never like this.

These were ether marked incorrectly or they run about a half size smaller. The piece where you put your big toe through is very narrow, cannot imagine wearing it all day! Very disappointed- returning.

I was totally unable to slide my big toe into place..... Very very narrow for a wide width.....
