I almost always wear a size 7 so i originally ordered a 7 but they were too large. So I exchanged them for a 6.5 which were significantly smaller than the 7, seemed more than half a size smaller but they mostly fit. (I did have an issue with the 6.5 that they originally sent me, something must have been wrong with it because the top seam- closer to the toes- on the right shoe was super digging into the top of my foot. Since the left shoe wasn’t doing that, I figured something was wrong with the specific shoe and turns out I was right because the new 6.5 they sent me didn’t have that problem). So the 6.5 fits for the most part. I doubled up my socks on a really cold day and they didnt fit anymore, so I’m not sure how well they’d fit with very thick socks. I’m hoping the leather gets more flexible as I wear them more because they don’t have a lot of give. They look just like what is in the picture. The quality doesnt seem amazing when you feel them but they still look good.

The style is great. They are super cute but one shoe just doesnt feel as comfy.. I cant wear them to work as I stand on my feet all day and they start hurting my feet.

I was happy to find a leather combat boot that comes in a wide. I have short, chubby legs and so the taller boots don’t work for me since my calves are so short. So I thought I would try these combat boots. I usually wear a 9WW and I tried the 9W. These come to halfway across the widest part of my calves. It’s nice because I can still lace these al the way up and they are wide enough. The foot actually feels like a double wide as that is what I usually wear. I have plenty of room and i will be able to wear thicker wool socks for winter which you will need to do for these because they are so thin. While the shoe looks good, I hate the zipper. It takes away from the combat style and I don’t actually need to use it. And it’s leather as I wouldn’t wear fake leather, it’s very thin leather. Also the sole/heel looks decent but feels cheap and it is hollow so I don’t think these will last more than one winter.

I wore these boots for years until they literally fell apart. I loved them. The style was so cool and versatile. The sole construction is not as good as it could be but considering the crazy conditions I forced these boots to endure through my teenage and college years (snow, raves, dirt), I think they are well worth it. The sole did actually disintegrate within a few months because it appeared to be made of some sort of cardboard material? I was walking in the rain and one sole just fell off. I had the boots re-soled with good rubber soles for $25 and they lasted for years after that. Then the zipper started to snag and eventually I wore them in the snow one day and forgot to put them in a sufficiently dry space and they completely warped. I am planning to buy another pair because I can't find any style that looks just like this and was just as comfortable. They are different from Doc Martens - totally different style and much lighter and easier to wear, versatile with almost any outfit. I love these boots.

Cute shoe that zips on. Loved it, but I order a 7. It felt like a 9! (And I ordered 4 pair of zappos shoes. The rest fit! This one just runs very large!)

I saw these boots and was so excited to receive but the color is a darker brown than what it looks like in picture. It's a chocolate brown. I have a narrow foot and it fits ok. I take size 10 and it's a little loose but I would fear 9.5 might be too short. I have very narrow ankles and calves and even with socks and my skinny jeans, the top of boots were too wide. So disappointed. I am returning.

I have this boot in several colors and I love them! They look cute with just about everything--pants, leggings, dresses, skirts. The new ones are a slightly different design than the older Troopa (zipper is on the side instead of back and laces are a little chunky and not as nice), but fit and quality are the same. They have no padding, so I recommend ordering a half size larger so you can add inserts to make them a little more comfy.

I've had these shoes for about 2 weeks and love them so far! They seem to be really nice material and the brown is a nice dark color. They are very comfortable- I've been wearing them almost every day. Some people seem to be complaining about the heel but it seems pretty solid too me. I like that it isnt too clanky when walking on tile. They have scuffed a little bit but I'm hoping I can fix that with some polish or something like that. I first bought a size 9 and they were huge- luckily I had to exchange for an 8 (since they were out of the 8.5) because they are even still a little bit big. The laces on the front do help with tightening them up and its nice that there is also a zipper on the side for easy putting on and taking off. Definitely recommend!

Beware this book has a very strong scent to it. They smell like permanent marker. Be sure to air out in a large area for a few weeks or you'll end up with a headache if you put in your closet or room.

Sizing is not consistent. I ordered these boots in brown and they fit perfecting. I liked them so much I ordered them in black. When I tried them on I found that the left boot was noticeably more narrow than the right. The right fit perfectly.

I was a little wary of these boots because of reviews that are critical of their quality, but they were on a bit of a sale, which made them a) affordable while I save up for some Frye boots and b) I love the style (very classic-combat-boot but with a less-chunky sole than you usually get). I've had them for a few weeks and have worn them every day in work/walking around town situations, and they're holding up wonderfully so far. They're clearly not the best-quality leather (and NOTE: the lining is man-made, which differs from the description above), but the leather is certainly acceptable, the stitching seems solid, and they're quite comfortable. A couple of notes on the ones I got (black): 1) SIZING: I have a narrow foot, so I didn't size up as many folks recommended. I ordered my normal size 7, but my heel was slipping a lot, and just from trying the boots on twice, the leather seemed to be stretching a bit, so I exchanged for a 6.5. At first, I had a little trouble getting my foot in, but after trying the boots on twice, they'd softened up. After one evening of wearing them around the house, the boots fit PERFECTLY. So maybe if you've got a narrow foot, consider sizing down? Or at least not sizing up. 2) DIFFERENCES FROM WHAT'S PICTURED: The zipper and laces do NOT match the boots in the picture. The zipper has changed from that chunkier, brass-looking YKK to a black, narrow-tabbed YKK zipper. It's fine with me now, but I was initially disappointed. The laces are round rather than the flat-looking ones in the pictures above, which is no bigs, really, but if you're super into the minutia of laces, be warned. Overall, I'm really happy with these boots. They look GREAT with every outfit, they're comfortable, and they were relatively affordable.

I have these boots in black and brown. The brown is a gorgeous cognac color that works as a great neutral color for a variety of different outfits/colors. However, within a couple of months the zipper broke off of one of my boots so I cannot wear the brown pair anymore. However, I have had the black pair for almost 2yrs and they have held up well. In the fall/winter I wear these every single day in any type of weather so there are a few scratches on the toe area but no problems with the sole or the zipper. My foot is on the wide side (but not wide enough to require wide fit shoes) and these boots are very comfortable, and feel true to size.

I love these boots! I bought them specifically for a trip to Europe where I planned on doing a lot of walking, but wanted to look cute as well. I wore the boots a few times before the trip to break them in and found them to be quite comfortable over all. The toe area is a little narrow so I would definitely recommend wearing them around a bit before going long distances.

I bought these boots three or so years ago and today. I've decided to hang them up for good, I've walked them to death! They were my every day shoes, they go with every outfit and are ridiculously comfortable. My issues with them are that the sole does wear out pretty easily and they scuff a lot and the color turns green. I'm not sure if every pair is like this and mine smelled funny when I got them (not like leather) and it lingered (I bought them from a Madden store though)! For the price, they last as long as you would expect. They are better quality than cheap boots, but they're made for fashion, not necessarily true butt kicking combat. Today is a sad day but they are completely trashed. Will repurchase!

I had these boots three years ago and wore them all the time, but needed a new pair (because a dog peed on mine, not because of craftsmanship). The only downside was the cognac color shown is no longer available. The color is brown with a distressed look which pulls a little bit of lighter color but not like the old cognac color. Very disappointed but I'm getting used to this color and I still love the boots overall.

These look great in the photos. The front of the shoe looks (and is) really flat in person. That means it was uncomfortable to walk. I got my normal size, which is 7. Maybe you would want to get a size up.

It took me a long time of looking at these to finally make the plunge and buy them because I wasn't sure I could pull off a combat boot. When I finally got them I fell in love. Great soft leather as super comfortable. I'm a size 7.5 and they fit perfect. Very happy with this purchase worth the money!

I purchased this boot about three years ago. I read reviews prior to my purchase and worried about the soles and leather quality. I really liked the look so I went ahead with the purchase. Prior to me wearing them, I got the soles replaced at a local cobbler ($20). After three years of wearing them at least once weekly (and almost daily in the fall and winter), I noticed no cracks or holes but I have had to replace the soles twice now. The only downside to re-soleing is that to match the new sole, they had to dye the heel. After years of owning them and only now revisiting the site, I must say I even forgot what the original heel design was. The leather does scuff easily. Prior to wet and salt season though, I take them to the cobbler for winterizing and after the season, they get buffed again. I have just picked them up from the cobbler today and they look brand new. Size wise, they do run very narrow. I normally wear a 6.5 but these are very narrow so I had to exchange them for a 7 (Thanks, Zappos). I usually wear thick socks anyway so it wasn't a problem. I haven't had any issues with the laces and zipper though so that's good. Now you may be thinking that there's too much maintenance involved but I do love these boots and want them to last so I think it's worth it. Overall, I would purchase these shoes again 10/10. They are extremely comfortable and very stylish. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star across is the necessity for changing the sole even before I got to wear them.

Ordered these in the stone leather in my regular size. They are slightly narrow, but not uncomfortable - no blisters on the first day of wear and TONS of compliments.

I haven't worn them yet, still too hot in Florida. They look great, seem to be good quality, and did I say they look great? Will be breaking them out next month in New Hampshire and plan to enjoy them a lot!!!

I waited 4 days for my boots and was beyond excited! But as soon as they came in, I realized Zappos messed up the order and i ended up with the wrong color. I had to send them back and wait again. Recommend ordering from the Steve Madden store itself!

Great boots! My daughters second pair! I had to get a half size up from her normal size.
