I own this boot in the dark brown AND the faded black. I bought the largest size offered (11) , and they have both required a break-in period. (I'm sure I'm not the only person out there who wishes Frye would make their AMAZING boots & shoes in an extended range for those of us not blessed with average sized feet.) That being said, these boots are fantastic, and DO break in after a fashion. I always receive compliments when I wear them, and they are incredibly transitional. You can wear them out to dinner or out hiking, and your comfortable either way.

These boots are well made, look and feel like good quality, and are very stylish. The only con to them are they are heavy on the feet and a pain to take off. It's not that big of deal and I don't regret the purchase.

Beautiful boots!!!! I am so glad I ordered half.one size up after reading all the review. I am size 6.5-7 but I ordered 7.5. Didn't need to break in my boots, there is enough room for my thick socks for winter and my toes are happily wiggling. Time to stomp some leaves!!!!

I love these boots! I would recommend getting them professionally stretched before wearing them. It will improve comfort immediately for wearing all day

Just received my Veronica Combat boots. Very well made. Haven't had a chance to wear them yet but did try them on. After reading reviews a lot of people said they run small so I order a 1/2 size up. They are a little bit more roomy than I thought but if I wear a thicker sock I'm sure they will be fine. I think they probably run true to size. I love Frye boots. Would love to see them in a Carmel color. All in all I'm very satisfied.

I love these boots. They're slimmer than other combat boots I've had in the past, so they can really go with any outfit. I ordered my usual size, and they do run a little small. I ended up exchanging for a half size up. The online exchange process with Frye is really easy. Overall, definitely recommend!

Following advice in many reviews, I purchased a half size larger than usual, and they fit fine. I"ve not worn Frye in a long (!) time, and am pleased with the quality and comfort of these silver (!) combat boots. The leather, reasonably soft, is becoming more supple with each wear; the rubberized bits of the sole will, no doubt, extend the life of the sole. These are a great workhorse of an urban boot, and will be easy to coordinate with casual outfits.

I already knew about the excellent quality of Frye boots which is one reason for my purchase. I read the reviews and had to laugh at comments about the break-in. Yes, there is a break-in period; No, it is not like breaking in actual combat boots (been there, done that, it takes weeks); Yes, the leather is stiff (these are made in Mexico with quality leather). I was surprised at how well these boots fit my small, narrow feet - I got a 5.5 and have been wearing them with medium weight sock. Yes, they DO run narrow - I doubt that any size of these would fit wide feet. I got the grey (don't need black combat boots - I have some US issue boots) and they are just beautiful! They are a silvery grey distressed leather and it will be interesting to see how they age. I wear black, purple, and grey a lot and these will look great with my wardrobe colors. I except to wear these boots for years to come.

I am totally in love with the quality of these boots. After reading some of the reviews I am glad I sized up because they do run small. But, the smooth leather/stitching of these boots is pure craftsmanship. I can't wait to style these boots. This was a win win purchase for me considering these are my first pair of Frye boots.

I have wide toebox and narrow heels. These were way too narrow in the toes.

I just received these today, and I'm disappointed with the color. I love the distressed look, but my pair looks more brown than black. Someone mentioned in the comments that conditioning them darkens the color, so I will try that and hope for the best. Other than that, and taking 20 minutes to loosen the laces the first time to actually get them on my feet, they're nice-looking shoes

Why are these worth the money and comfy, too? It's how these are crafted. Not just the outside, it's the inside that really counts. The part that your foot feels all day long! It is lined in leather and is a bit cushiony. No blisters when you were getting used to just put them on and wear them. The quality will last for years. As for not liking them like the other woman did because of taking so long to lace, I ask, How many times do you have to do this a day? So you get a great fit around your ankle for spending maybe a minute more. You'll like these! *i did return these for a 1/2 size smaller. May be because my foot is Especially narrow. My toes have enough extra room in the toebox in the half size smaller.

I love the Veronica Combat, but these are NOT black - they're dark brown and have been messed up to look like they're worn. Super disappointed.

I bought these despite negative reviews from others with wide feet and I'm glad I did. I have large, wide feet and long toes, so the soles of these shoes are the same shape as my feet and I have no issues with the width of these shoes. The stiffer part of the toe box ends right before my feet widen, so there is no excessive snugness there either. My heels are kind of narrow though so I will need to bandage my heels to break in the shoes because they rub.

Great quality as always, but front is wide and high, makes foot look huge :( sad to say I have to return after waiting all week Hoping to wear this weekend. I just can't get over how manly they look, please make a more feminine version of the combat boot.

So, here goes- I bought these boots back in 2016 and LOVED them but I had bought the wrong size. After years of having them they finally needed to be resoled so I figured I would just buy my right size this time. Let me tell you the quality has gone so down its quite disappointing ! My original ones actually looked like this and this is what I got this time around- they aren't even black anymore! more like a brown with really bad techniques of trying to make it look distressed. I laughed when I opened the boxed then was a little sad LOL. Also, my original boots in 2016 the sole was not rubber, they tried to make it look like wood on these. Be aware if you are thinking of these. Sad times.

I bought these boots last spring. After normal use, the heels on both boots literally fell off while walking. Terrible quality.

I usually wear a 6.5 in shoes but in boots i size up to 7.5 so that i can wear thicker socks. I purchased a 7 as recommended but it fit just right. I should have ordered a 7.5 . Otherwise It's a gorgeous, well made boot.

I love these shoes and I am gonna wear them indoors for a day to see how they do. I usually wear an 8 M in almost every brand. My feet are on the narrow side of medium. I got a 9 based on recommendations and was surprised the 9 feels almost too short and too narrow with my everyday wool socks. I don’t want to have to wear thin dress socks with combat boots. I’m hoping the lovely boots give a bit with a bit of wear because I think a 10 would def be too large. Just wanted to let others know even going a full size up these boots still fit tIghtly. (I wear a size 8 in the Frye harness boots and the Frye Natalie engineer boots, so go figure) If they had half sizes I would go up to 9 1/2 for these. Lovely leather looks and feel, but the leather laces kind of undermine the ‘combat’ style, overall these are a bit sleeker than what I hoped for in a rugged combat style boot.

After reading the reviews, I went up half a size. They fit great, however, you have to undo the laces to get them on. The opening is tiny. If you don't have the patience to sit down and put them on, these are not the boots for you. Otherwise, they are very nice boots. A little pricey, but that's the brand.

These boots, Veronica Combat, are substantial and gorgeous! I ordered the “silver” when I meant to order the gray. They are just to-die-for beautiful. Placed an order for the gray so I can compare the two leathers. The light sole of the silver might make them the winner...will see when the other pair arrives. I want to be able to wear these to work with leggings and am not sure if the silver is a deal-breaker in that regard. The sizing is SPOT ON. I have three pairs of tall Frye boots and wear the same size in these as the others I have; Frye’s sizing is consistent. You need to unlace the boots half way down to properly insert your foot - that’s the nature of this style of boot. The Veronica Combat will feel stiff at first which is not uncomfortable, they just need to be broken in. The stiffness, in my opinion, is the sign of well-made leather boots. This style is definitely a keeper whichever color you choose!

Wonderful leather and construction. Tried several colors and because I went up a half size it was tricky not to have them look too long with my slim legs. Settled on the gray.
