Originally, so excited about a winter boot that was stylish and waterproof. Bought mine in December 2010. First time I stepped in a shallow puddle, right boot felt moist inside. Sent them back and Merrell replaced them with the same pair. Survived first winter in New England, but now are leaking again, and the toe part of rubber sole has largely worn off and peeled back significantly after half of the second season of normal wear. Exposed part of sole at front of boot now leaks on both feet. For the price, I expected longer lasting boot. I have taken good care of these boots, and they still are wearable, but failing fast. So unfortunate... Is nothing built to last anymore? Thought my loyalty to Merrell would be more dependably rewarded.

I received an email from Zappos inviting me to order another pair of Spire boots. Unfortunately, I have been disappointed and won't re-order. After one year of semi-regular wear, both boots have marked wear on the toe-region sole (it is peeling apart), and a pull-tab broke and fell off one zipper. I love their look and comfort but they are not worth the cost. Not what I anticipated from Merrell.

I'm sorry; while these were cute and super comfortable, I bought them because they were supposed to be waterproof. They start off waterproof, but take a close look at the hollow design of the soles; the problem is that as soon as they undergo even the slightest amount of wear (like, within a few months, we're talking), basically they spring a leak. Think about it; if you look at even just an ordinary pair of running shoes, the soles of those are much more solid and durable. I don't know about everyone else, but I live in NYC and I do have to do some amount of walking to get around. Comfort is great -- but in this case, how comfy they are sort of misleads you into believing you can wear these without having them fall apart on you if you have a non-sedentary lifestyle. Keep in mind, also, that unlike all other stylish waterproof leather boots I've ever owned, you can't have taps put on these kinds of soles by the the local shoe repair shop (to guard against very, very basic wear do permanent damage). Nope, all you can do is sit by and watch the weird, flimsy, hollow heel open a way for that wonderful winter slush to get in. I wanted to like them for more than just a few months, but they ended up being a huge disappointment. I knew the price was too good to be true, unfortunately. I'm finally writing this review because I'm tired of having these show boots show up as a suggestion every time I look for warm, waterproof, comfortable black winter boots. Frankly, because of the way these were made, I don't consider any of Merrell's other stylish leather waterproof boots either. Sorry; just being honest.

I've had these boots for several years (they've been in Merrell's line for awhile). They look great on the foot and leg (they fit my muscular calves just fine) and can be dressed up or down. They are comfortable and supportive and easy to walk around in. But I find them to be not waterproof in the slightest. They also tend to make my feet sweat after wearing them indoors for long periods, and that makes going out into cold weather uncomfortable. I had to buy another boot for rain and snow, but I keep these as a good all-around casual everyday boot. True to size, in my opinion, but buy a half-size up to accommodate socks. (Low rating for "overall" is based on the waterproof claims.)

Warm, comfortable boot that is nice looking as well. I searched for a long time to find a boot that met all 3!

Exactly what I needed and wanted. I based my decision to purchase on my past great experiences with Merrell footwear and the reviews on the boot I read here. The boots was just right for my narrow foot and small calf even though it did not come in narrow. It is so comfortable even wearing at work all day. I also love wearing it to church.

This shoe runs a teeny teeny bit tight (I am size perfect size 8 in most Merrell shoes). It has a very narrow ankle. The top of foot of the shoe is creamy soft!

Fantastic boots - the pictures don't do it justice - they are really comfy and stretch enough to wear with skinny pants. The soles practically bounce when you wear them - the support is so good. They are well insulated, waterproof, and the toe shape is really great. A+.

These are the best! I have bad feet, plantar fasciitis, and it's hard to find a shoe/boot that works at all. These fit, even with my orthotics, they keep my feet warm and dry and they have a good arch support. The calf area is insulated with Thinsulate material which keeps my legs warm. I can wear these all day, unheard of as I usually have to switch shoes out during the day. Merrell makes a great boot.

Should've started here! I ordered 6 different pair of boots before I ordered this pair, and I'm so glad I did. They are the urban/sport/dress boot I was looking for all along. The fit of the footbed took some getting used to. Not uncomfortable, but different, and at first I was worried they were going to hurt my feet. But no! Of course, I don't have to walk miles and miles in these, either. But I'm very happy with the look and fit. And very happy that I can return the 6 other pair (about $1000 worth of boots!) for free!

Great boots! Very comfortable. I have worn them for long periods of time and they feel as though I'm wearing bedroom slippers, not boots. I wear a 9 and they were true to size. I highly recommend this boot.

This boot is warm and comfortable, and fits like a glove. I live in Chicago, where winter is serious; I walked all over downtown for five hours in 10 degree weather. My feet felt great, warm and dry. The soles do not slip or skid when the floor is wet. Buy a half size larger than usual.

So glad I bought these. I needed a pair of boots that were sort of dressy and can be worn with anything, and at the same time be warm and waterproof. Can be worn with a dress/skirt/or pants. They fit snug around my calf, which I like. I consider my calves muscular, not fat. These work well when I wear them with pants. Other reviews talked about the ankle being tight. For me, I feel this just when putting them on. Once on, they're fine.

Very happy with these boots. They kept my feet dry and warm shoveling in two feet of snow and walking to work through the ankle deep slush in the city. They also look good and are comfortable to walk in.

Bought as Christmas present for my wife. She loves them--super comfortable, warm, waterproof, and stylish. Can be casual or dressy...perfect boot.

I love these boots! I bought them for a two week winter trip to London and Paris based on the reviews I read here. The best thing I can say - after two weeks of walking in rain and snow, through miles and miles of museums and cobblestone streets, I came home and these are the only shoes I want to wear. I have mild plantar fasciitis, and am careful about my shoes - I have no issues in these boots. The only challenge I had was when wearing multiple layers underneath - with tights, two pairs of thick wool socks, thermals and skinny jeans tucked in, they were a little tough to zip as they do fit snugly, but with fewer layers I had no problems. I love these boots.

This boot rocks! Bought it for a non-traditional wedding outfit to wear in DC and WA during December. It is warm, reasonably water and snow proof, comfortable right out of the box and warm. And, I got lots of compliments on it. Sleek and timeless. I highly recommend if you are a practical, sporty girl who also wants a bit of style.

These boots are great. They are really comfortable and keep your feet nice and warm. I live in California and had to go to New York during a major snow storm. These boots were perfect.

These are the best boots ever for women who want a dress boot with no heel. They are warm, stylish, have good soles, and fit true to size. I wore my first pair out -- totally -- after 4 years. A great investment.

Boots fit true to size, very comfortable. I can wear them all day on my feet and still not want to take them off! Watch out for calf size, your foot may fit but the calf is a comfortable but tight fit.

Merrell comes through again! These boots perfectly fit my slightly wide-through-the-toes size 5 feet. They have great arch support and hug my legs nicely, too. I can't wear high heeled footwear very well but I still want style. These boots treat my feet and give verve to my outfits at the same time.

These boots are exactly what I was looking for - perfect for cold, rainy days here in the Pacific Northwest. They are very comfortable and give good arch support. The day they arrived, I walked three miles in them. And while they are not dressy, it's nice to have something to wear that is both stylish - I have gotten several compliments on them - and functional at the same time. Also, Zappos is now my go-to place for buying shoes. Every time, I think, "oh, they are here already!" That fast!

Just what I had been looking for, fits great. Calf if not too wide. Put them on and off I went. They are warm and comfortable.

I absolutely love these boots. I've been looking for winter boots that are both dressy and comfortable for walking long distances for awhile, and these fit the bill. The sole has great support. It's like a soft cushion. I walk about 3 miles a day, and my feet feel great in these. The boots are simple, but sleek. They are great for work or going out. The real leather is a big plus. The price is pretty steep, but I think I'll get a lot of use out of them. The only drawback is that the shaft of the boot is form-fitting. So, it fits great with tights, but it's too narrow for jeans (even skinny jeans). If you have larger calves, these probably won't work. If you have small or average calves and put a premium on comfort, then you will love wearing these with tights.

This is the second pair of Merrell boots that I own and I don't think I will ever stray from the brand. They are very warm and waterproof - a great stylish winter boot. Other things to note: I am a true size 7 and a 7 fits great. Also, I have average sized calves and had a tiny bit a trouble zipping these up the first time, but it gets easier every time.
