If you want comfort, don't ask a hipster. You can't go wrong asking a hipster about the latest fashion and music so it was with that eye toward trendiness that lead me to these shoes. But skinny leg jeans, Pabst bear, and itchy beards? No thank you. Hipsters eschew the comforts of this world. The problems all reside in the sole. It may not look like it, but that's a very thin sole. If you are spending your day in a coffee shop writing a blog, that may not be a problem but I bought these shoes for walking about 5 miles a day. I did my research, and the chukka evolved from WWII desert boots, so I thought they would be comfortable over long distances, but I was wrong. But that's not the worst part. The sole is rounded, so the full force of your step lands in the squishy part of the ball of your foot. Two months in, there's already a nice bald spot on my shoe from all the wear that crosses the very center of the shoe, instead of evenly distributing the weight across your foot like nature intended. It's entirely possible that this review is for the Chukka style and not specifically this shoe. Since I managed to buy this shoe without any low ratings, I had to be that guy. Enjoy your fixie, hipster; I'm going back to a real shoe.

This was a great shoe while it lasted. However, after 4 months, the sole separated from the upper, it is simply glued on. I got it resoled thinking that it was worth the cost, since the shoe was pretty expensive. However, after another 3 months, holes gradually opened in the toe box in the inside of the upper - that is when I threw them away. For the price, I think the quality is pretty poor. However, while they lasted they were quite comfortable.

My third JV pair. As with the others, this didn't disappoint. Their sizing is weird. 9 on this shoe is perfect but I have an 8 on their Schooner boat shoe. Took a while to get used to the curved sole. Leather is great. You have to try it on. Go to a Nordstrom but buy from Zappos.

Great shoes. Fit perfect and true to size. Look great with jeans.

These are by far my favorite pair of shoes. It's a little hard to get on and off but other than that they look and feel great.

These are my second pair of JV Chukkas, I liked them so much. They are really comfortable, look great and, in my opinion, have the perfect chukka look. I get tons of compliments. The only downside, and this comes with all chukkas, is that they are a little hard to get in to. A shoe horn makes it an east task though.

Comfortable as all get out! Went on trip and needed a pair of shoes for everyday use for jeans and khakis. These fit the bill very well. Very soft, very comfortable, very stylish. Great shoe and would highly recommend to everyone.

Really great shoe - very happy with them so far! The chocolate brown color was exactly what I'd been looking for and is very versatile. I have a narrow heel, so I bought a 9 instead of the 9.5 and they fit just right. The suede is nice and soft so no issues with the top part of the neck rubbing against my ankle like I have read about some people having with Chukkas. I actually had to return the first pair because, while the box had the correct color listed on the outside, the shoes inside were actually the grey color (which also looked very nice). The return process was super easy and painless and I got the replacement pair in just a couple of days. Keep up the great work Zappos!

These are great I'm very happy with variation products and Zappos next day makes it even better.

This is a very good looking shoe, great for casual wear when sneakers aren't good enough and loafers are too much.

These things are not only stylish - they're very comfortable! The tread design on the bottom is very cool but it does wear off on the heel and ball of your foot as you break them in...but not a showstopper for me. I normally wear a size 10, but the 9.5 fit me much better.

Love the shoes. They're very well made; the quality is superb. I will definitely buy Varvatos shoes again. Thanks Zappos, you are the best!

It's a bit difficult to put on, I can't even imagine ordering half a size smaller, let alone a full size smaller as recommended by several of these reviews. I would order the size you normally wear. It's a great looking shoe, I own 3 pairs.

I was hesitant at first on purchasing this product. I had never worn any John Varvatos shoes before so I didn't know how they would feel. After reading all the great reviews, I decided to pull the trigger. I could not be happier. These shoes are definitely very very comfortable. They are also stylish. One could wear this with jeans or dress pants. Now my dad wants one. I'll be heading straight to Zappos for that next pair really soon.

Love these boots. Had to go down a full size and glad I did, they fit great. Went from a 10M to a 9M. Very comfortable right out of the box. Had them approximately 6 weeks, wearing well. Bit pricey, but they look great for work and casual.

Great shoe, weird fit. I am a 10.5. I got a shoe one full inch longer than a 10.5. I ordered a 9.5, great length, but a bit too narrow. Sob.

These are the best pair of shoes that I have ever worn. They required no breaking in at all. They have been comfortable since I first put them on. I highly recommend these fantastic shoes. Although the sizing is weird, I normally wear a 10½ in most shoes but I had to go a full size down on these bad boys.

I really wish I would have gotten these a lot sooner. They go well with any color jeans I wear. They feel great and don’t make your feet hurt if you walk around all day in them. I always get told how nice they are.

Love these shoes. They were comfortable as soon as I put them on. No break in required and chose them just based on the images in the site. Fast shipping too!

Great comfortable shoes. I was a bit hesitant because of the price tag, but I believe they are worth every penny. Very stylish with a pair of jeans as well as a nice pair of slacks. As other reviews state, they run a half size larger than stated and a tad wider.

I get lots of compliments on these simple yet stylish shoes. They started a bit narrow feeling but they broke in really nicely. Great for work or casual night out.

I've owned these for a while in black and love them. I wear them daily with jeans or khakis. Size is half size larger, I own a pair in 11.5. In running shoes (New Balance) I wear an eleven, width: EE, shoe last: SL2. My feet are fairly wide. I was nearly put off by the D width but they fit great. So I find them wider than advertised. Alot of aesthetics with the sole stitching and the sole itself. People ask about them often and I get compliments all the time.

Great looking shoe. Fits true in the heel and a bit wide in the toe box, but looks fantastic with jeans/casual pants. I wear mine all the time. I walk around in these quite a bit and I'm not sure they're built for comfort, so I use thin insoles which seem to work well.
