I had watched these boots for 2 months, and finally bought them to place under the Christmas tree. Unfortunately when I tried them on, they cut into my ankles and were slippery when I walked on carpet--Quite disappointed and have to return them.

Very tight at ankle. Couldn't get my foot in this boot. It also was faded on one side, and the entire boot seemed wrinkled.

The top has held up, but the soles leak! I've had these boots in burgundy since 2011, and I noticed this fall that water is leaking through the leather sole, into the shoe. I've worn them a fair bit, but the soles are not worn through, so I'm not really sure what the deal is, since I'm walking on wet pavement, not taking my $370 boots through puddles! The leather on the rest of the boot has been very durable, but did not soften with wear like I'd expected. I've taken care of them by conditioning the leather a few times, so there are no cracks, and no busted seams. I also have fairly large calves, and while they fit, it was a bit of a task to get them on in the beginning, and they are still very tight but I can wear them with skinny jeans. They never really had any arch support, and although I love the color and look, I'm disappointed that water is seeping in, especially for the price, and that they are basically no longer effective shoes unless the sidewalk is dry. :(

Great color not so great fit. Reviews said wear them and break them in but afraid if I did that I couldn't return them. I was so happy with the color but the bottoms are slick. My toes felt cramped and the heel support is so stiff I could barely pull them on.

I wanted to love this boot but it was WAY too small. I am a 10 in all shoes and I couldn't even get my foot in these, let alone my whole calf. So disappointed.

Unfortunately, these boots are so narrow at the ankle I couldn't even pull them on. I ordered size 7. My feet are narrow, I wear 6,5-7. The style, the leather quality is great. The soles are very slippery. The don't have a non-slip rubber layer. They would need an extra layer put on by a shoe maker before wearing them outside. The toe box is not round but oval. In the narrow toe box category to my mind.

These boots are beautiful and well made, but almost impossible to get on and, while my calf isn't huge, it isn't tiny and this book was tight...very tight. Alas, I have to send them back.

I ordered these in gray and brown soft vintage leather in the same size and width. The brown ones didn't fit me well. There was a lot of extra room in the ankle area, not a becoming shape. The gray ones fit perfectly and I'm keeping those. I'm wondering if it's the different type of leather they use?

Gorgeous boot. I love the western flair, it's got a little bit of attitude but not too much. I appreciate the low heel. The leather is soft and looks beautiful. They're comfortable enough to wear right out of the box, but the leather will mould to your feet and be even more comfortable over time. The reason only 3 stars is that within two days of wear, the stitching on the main seam on the back of the boot came undone. I looked around online and read other reviews critical of the stitching on the Melissa button boot and decided I didn't want to take a chance on expensive boots falling apart so soon.

Do not order this boot if you have a slenderish foot, heel, or ankle. I have owned the Melissa button for two years. I do not like them as my heel pops up and they feel sloppy. Going down a half size was not an option, as the length and instep are just right. I wear a size 7 in Cole Haan, Old Gringo, New Balance, Clarks, Merrils, and Mephisto. Thus, the Melissa's size 7 length is true to size. However, I have a slenderish foot (but not narrow), long toes, medium arch, and perhaps a narrow heel. So this boot is sloppy. My old gringos fit perfectly, yet reviews state other people can't get old gringos on due to a bottleneck. Guess brands differ, so watch out if you've got a narrowish foot because my foot fits Old Gringos perfectly yet the Fryes are sloppy. My daughter who wears a size 8, and has the Melissa in a size 8, loves them. But her feet, heel, and ankles are more medium width. The 15 inch circumference isn't too sloppy on a 131/2 inch calf, but still, it's not like a zip up boot. The 15 inch height, however, is perfect for us, being 5'4" and 5'6". Conclusion: The Melissa isn't for you if you have narrowish foot, heel or ankle.

I really wanted to love these boots! I debated buying it for a long time. When it arrived I was able to get it on but the calf area was snug. I tried it on with bare legs so there was no way I could have put this over leggings let alone skinny jeans. I am a runner but I did not think that my calves were big. The foot area was true to size. I wear an 8-8½ and ordered this in an 8 and they fit great but because of the calf I had to send them back.

These boots are gorgeous but they arrived damaged. The right boot had a cut on the leather as if someone slashed it with an exacto knife. The left boot appeared to be a different size.....as I could not even get my foot into the boot. I checked the sizing....both boots were a 9.5. The right boot fit well, but something was definitely off on the left boot. Will be returning.

Love the boots, however was not pleased with Frye's quality. However, thankfully bought them from Zappos and they were able to rectify the situation. Thank you ZAPPOS!
