Purchased for my husband for extended winter activities in northern Wisconsin-plowing the driveway, hiking through the snowy woods, deer hunting. He says he’s not sure he would use when climbing up the metal tree stand, although watched him do it the other day without difficulty with these boots on. Boots are very warm and heavy. Fit is good. He normally wears a size 10.5 or 11. He has a high instep and plantar fasciitis, so needed a good supportive boot.

I wear a women's 10.5 wide and I need some arch support. It is very difficult to find shoes that fit. Every shoe maker has different lengths and widths to go with their version of a size 10.5 shoe. It is disappointing that Zappos and the shoe manufacturers cannot come up with standardized sizing that reflects width and length the way that some blue jeans makers do. For example if you asked my husband what size pants he wears he would say, "I have a 33" waist and a 34" inseam". Why can't we have shoe sizes that are 28 centimeters long by 11 centimeters wide (at the ball of the foot)?
That being said, I ordered women's and men's boots from Columbia, Baffin, Sorrel, Kamik, Propet and Pajar. Here are my thoughts:
-Men's Columbia boots are better made then Women's Columbia boots, they have better lining/padding, better arch support and sturdier materials. The women's are more attractive. Both Men's and Women's Columbia boots in medium width are too narrow for me. The Women's wide were wider then the medium but not wide enough. The men's wide were wider but not by much. The Bugaboot III Wide is on my short list of desired boots, but I need one size up and they are currently out of stock. It was a little stiff but had good warmth/lining and good arch support.
-Baffin boots were dreamy comfy. Amazing lining; soft and warm. Sturdy exterior, not too heavy. Sadly, these boots run almost 2 sizes smaller then the average boot. So, if you are looking at trying the Baffin I would recommend sizing up at least 1.5 sizes up.
-Sorel boots have some good features, but not all Sorels are made equal. I ordered both the Caribou Wool and the 1964 Pac Nylon. The Caribou Wool was by far more comfortable and warm. Please note they also seem to run small, consider sizing up. I ordered the D width and found them on the narrow side. I am exchanging for a size up and hoping to gain a little more wiggle room in the width. Fingers crossed.
-Propet women's boots were cute and I appreciated the width that they offered. If you have wide feet and width is your biggest concern I would recommend giving these a try. I did find them lacking in arch support and lining for warmth. But a thumbs up for style.
-Kamik men's boot were interesting but also did not find the arch support I was looking for.
-Pajar boot - I ordered at men's 42, they were too small but I liked their potential so I am exchanging for size 43. I really wanted to try the 44 but for some reason in both styles they were out of 44. Finger crossed for the 43 to fit.
I hope that overview helped. I really appreciate the comments that other people write. It helps me figure out whether or not to give a shoe/boot a try. Thanks to everyone out there that takes a minute to write feedback. It is a big help!

I just got mine and haven't worn them outside yet but they are comfortable and seem very durable. I know they'll keep my feet warm when the heavy winter snowfall gets here. I don't think they are too heavy at all nor do they look too big but that's my opinion. I am normally a size 8.5 wide and I bought these in a size 9 and they are perfect with just enough room to wear thick socks if I desire. Now I'm trying to convince my husband to buy a pair for himself.

I bought these 3 yes ago & I love them. I won't buy any other brand than Sorel. I bought my first pair in 1970. I wore them until 2005. Someone else wore them & they were stained with some black stuff & the bottom tread was very smooth making them slippery for walking in snow. They were tall & white. Kind of a nylon/canvas type material. I even remember where I bought them. My feet were always warm even without socks on. I walked 15 miles in -54 windchill & my feet were toasty warm.

My first pair of caribou's I bought in Alaska lasted me over 34 years, even though I've tried to destroy them on occasion. They took a direct hit from an axe that bounced off a frozen log I was chopping for the fire. Cut through the rubber bottom at the toes, but the liner stopped the axe, good thing for me as I was on a remote island in Prince William Sound, with transport off for a week. I've gone through so many liners that at last I could not get Sorel liners anymore in Alaska, so the boot became part time where and I switched to my Sorel Glacier's. But this last spring as I was driving through Canada, I stopped at a well know retailer and low and behold I found my new "bou's"! Hopefully they will last as long as my first pair!

The moment I received these boots, I wore them immediately. They are so warm and comfortable. I love this brand and that is why I have three other pair of boots from them. It's quality and made well. I will be wearing these boots again when winter comes around this year.

I ordered these boots for my husband after purchasing a pair for myself this past winter. We use them for ice fishing and even in -15 conditions on the ice, they keep our feet nice and warm the entire time. Even with the water flooding our feet from the auger, the boots protect our feet! I can't say enough about these boots!

I love SOREL Caribou boots. Plural because three pairs of boots have taken me through three decades. I've replaced multiple boot inserts with the furry tops that slip into the main leather boot, but the boots carry on. My first pair kept my feet toasty through a Colorado high country winter near Vail. My brother told me I needed SOREL boots because they would keep my feet warm and dry. And because that's what the locals wore in that mountain town in below-zero temps. At 40 below, I breathed through a wool scarf to filter the cold as I walked to work a short quarter-mile downhill, glad my feet were warm (ya cannot start a truck in that cold--oil is too thick).
The second pair got me through snows in Nevada in the shadow of the Carson and Sierra Nevada mountains near Lake Tahoe. I slogged through the small stables behind my cousin's Reno home and threw hay to her horses. Adventures followed in snow and mud and muck and desert washes.
By the third pair, I'd moved back to Utah along the Wasatch range, and my feet were warm while standing on a sheet of packed snow and ice all day loading beginners on a ski lift for one winter. And through city storms and country miles in Southern Utah and then three winters in a tiny town called Santaquin where I freelance edited online for ad agencies and scattered birdseed for wild birds after packing down snow underneath the feeders.
And now it's time for the fourth pair. Wonder what I will do in this new decade, in my new boots with their clean new inserts, with new dreams. One thing I know. My feet will be warm and dry.

Did you decide at the last minute to fly to Iceland or Norway to see the Northern Lights? Now you need a really good pair of boots to keep you warm as well as fashionable. The Sorel Caribou boot is the answer. They keep your feet toasty, dry and comfortable in snowy or rocky terrain. Go dogsledding, too. Later, you can walk around town with relative ease.

Husband loves these. He wears 8.5-9 in shoes. Go home the 8.5 a bit tight with heavy socks but the inside I’ll compress and be perfect. Great tread on the sole.

I have always loved Sorel's but my husband had never worn them until this pair. We were dealing with a longer then usual winter for our area and it was time for him to experience these boots. He is so impressed with the quality and fit of these boots. Others he had tried were never true to size as these boots are. Even though they are rated down to -40 degrees they have not become too warm, making his feet sweat which is another problem with lesser boots. He really likes the soles too as they gripe the snowy ground and hasn't felt the need to add extra traction to them when runny around. We both highly recommend this boot to others and plan to purchase more Sorel's in the very near future.

I grew up on a ranch in Montana so reliable snow gear was a constant necessity from October to April. When I turned 13 my mom bought me a pair of Caribou's in a bizarre coming-of-age family tradition...I was freed from cheap plastic snowboots that let snow pack around your ankles or crack after a month of sledding on the weekends. I remember her making a big deal out of it and I wasn't all that excited as a teenager to get these clunky boots (Ever a planner, she bought a size 10 - I even now only wear size 8.5 - so I could always wear thick socks and grow into them) but I don't know that I've ever loved or used a pair of footwear as much as those Caribous. They got me through the cold winters of junior high, high school, and then became my go-to commute boots in college.
That brings us to present day. My trusty first pair (just as reliable as 20 years ago) lives on at my parents' house for my use when I visit in the winter months but I recently got a second pair to have with me (now in Seattle) that I plan on having for the rest of my life. I am pleased to report that they are the correct size (ordered an 8 as indicated by Sorel's sizing chart - fits with just enough room for some cozy socks) and this time in the black, to switch things up a bit. I use them every weekend for pre and post cross-country ski adventures and plan on using them for winter treks next season. These are not the sleekest profile boot, but that's not why I get or love them - they are the warmest, comfiest, and highest quality, functional boot I've ever had the pleasure of wearing.
