Frye Carson Shortie: I have a narrow foot and could not get these on. Should of had a zipper. Also, I ordered Burnt Red Washed Antique and was hoping for a soft red boot. Hard to describe - not a bad color just not very red, more brownish-red. Anyhow, I am returning.

I normally wear a 7½ shoe and ordered that size boot. Too tight. I can tell that even if I ordered a size 8, the boot would be too narrow for my shoe. They are nice looking, though. I did not like the way the toe box turned up. Otherwise they are nice.

I couldn't pull it on my left foot. I usually wear a size 8.5 but went up to size 9. It is tight going on my right foot but the left foot couldn't get past the boot and into the foot bed. My feet are of normal width. I will look for a Frye shortie with a zipper. Or try another pair of Carson Shortie. I just went to a store and was able to get both feet in a size 9 Frye tall boot. Must be the Carson or maybe I should try another Carson.

I ordered this style and the Carson Tab Short in size 9. This review is similar l to that of the other style because both boot styles felt exactly the same. First, the fit... I am a true 9.5 N, so brands like Stuart Weitzman and Cole Haan are my go to brands. I read in the reviews that this boot worked for a variety of sizes so I took a chance with my narrow foot using a thick sock and ordering down a half size. The front of the boot was perfect. The length seemed just right. The heel was so wide, though (even with very thick padded socks), that my heel slipped all of the way up. So, the heel slilppage was due to the width or design of the heel and not the length. (There should be some slippage, but not this much.) Second, the color... I ordered burnt red washed antique. On my monitor and on both Zappos' and Frye's sites I could see variation in the dye that made the antique look. The overall color was close to that on the site, but much less red and more brown with no antique. So, for color, this was off. Third, the quality... This boot appeared to be very well made and I think would last a lifetime. It is stamped Made in Mexico. The box, though, was a plain, unmarked brown box, so I did not know what surprise awaited me. The other style had been in a Frye box. I am giving this boot three stars because the quality is there. I cannot fairly rate comfort no having worn them, so I am giving it three stars. This pair was returned along with the Frye Carson Tab Short that had the same problems with fit and off color.

I got one foot in, but my other wouldn't come close. They felt great when on, but I can't deal with a shoe that takes 15 minutes to get on. I guess my instep is too high. Bummer. They are cute.

I wanted to love these boots. And I did. But I couldn't get them on. I wear size 11 and have a high instep and there was just no way my foot was getting into these boots. Even with a 12 inch shoehorn. Alas, they are going back.

The saddle color of this boot was just strange - partially covered in a white dusty color, I guess they were supposed to look "distressed" but they just looked like they had been left in the rain and mold started to grow. Also very strong smell, maybe just leather conditioner or something, but super strong. As my daughter said as I was trying them on, "Too cowboy without being cute cowboy."

I recently purchased these boots in black. My excitement abated once I tried them on. I had forgotten that despite Frye’s appeal among the fashionable, it still makes and sell cowboy boots that look like, well, cowboy boots, not fashionable versions thereof, which is probably what I should have paid for instead.Positives: Frye makes comfortable boots. In college, I had a pair of their "Campus" boots, which I wore out. As with all Frye styles that I have tried, the heel slips slightly, but it doesn’t rub or eat your sock. They run big. I am an 8.0-8.5, and I purchased these in a 7.5. They fit nicely. Negatives: This looks like an old man boot in black. It isn’t a pointy toe, but for those with larger feet and shorter legs, when you wear a flatter, longer (i.e., not rounder toed) boot like this, even with a boot cut or slightly wider jean, my impression is the overall effect is a bit circus clown-ish. Also, the top of the boot is stiff and wide, so it really looks obvious underneath your pant leg. Perhaps fashionable, tall, thin people can wear these over skinny jeans or with skirts, but shorties beware. Another negative is the weird white-ish feathering on the boot. What’s that about? Having said all of this, I will probably keep the boot now because I put a nonslip sole on it before I wore it. I personally feel the looks not all that flattering, especially for the ridiculous cost. Then again, what was I expecting? It is a real cowboy boot, and that’s how it looks on your foot.

Boo hoo. This cute boot is a huge disappointment. I am a Frye boot collector, and for the price, these boots fall short of the usual quality and fit I expect. The toes on this are tight, and the heel slips. I bought both the 9 and 9.5 and the larger size is also narrow at the toe. The proportions seem totally off. Also, the color is not as red as pictured...it really is more like the color of whiskey a dark amber.
