This is the first leather Dooney & Bourke bag that I have purchased, and I had my eye on it for a while. I was torn between the medium and the large bag and after reading all the reviews, I ultimately decided on the medium, which I kind of regret because it is smaller than I thought it would be. Now, after using the Coach carryall as a diaper bag for the past 12 months, anything would be small, but I thought I would be able to carry a Dipes and Wipes, bottle, wallet and such in there, but it's kind of cramped.The wine/burgundy color is beautiful and rich and the leather seems to be softening, but it's still pretty stiff. The zippers are becoming easier to use as well. The one thing that I am pretty disappointed about is the lining. It's just a standard cotton lining and seems to be an afterthought of the designer. I guess I am used to the soft, satin lining of a Coach. And the Coach leather bags are more luxurious and substantial. Eventually I planned on getting the large bag in a different color, but on second thought, will likely save my money and invest in a large Coach bag.

I love Zappos, the best online shopping site period. That said, this Dooney sac is not for me. Consider a different style if you are a small person. I'm just under 5'3" and small framed. This bag was huge on me; it hung from my armpit to mid-thigh, and it's quite heavy. It weighs 2.6 pounds empty on my postal scale. The color was very pretty, and the leather was good quality, but I can't imagine anyone filling this bag and then hauling it around all day. For me, the bag would have to be made in a type of parachute material to be light enough in this size. Also, the top of the bag, where the main zipper is, is not designed well; it sticks up under your arm instead of taking on the dropped shape of most hobo/sac styles. The leather seems too stiff to allow the top of the bag to fold over as is shown in the pictures. Perhaps it would soften in time. I still like Dooney bags, just need a different style. If you're tall and can carry off a very large weighty bag, you might enjoy this one; just not a good match for someone petite.

While my friends love D&B, I'd not been a fan. I found & ordered this handbag in the rich golden yellow color (no longer available), and wrote a rave review initially. Now though, after carrying it for 5 months or so, I've ditched the handbag... While it is very sturdily constructed, and I did receive a lot of compliments, it is just SO incredibly cumbersome to carry & access my belongings. Even in the Medium size, this is a "suitcase"- huge platform base, super-tall, ALWAYS requires two hands to zip/unzip and "dig" for contents... And HEAVY- even when empty! My shoulder/neck were feeling the drag of weight. Another problem regarding the D&B leather- while it is very heavyweight/sturdy, it is only very superficially "surface-painted". If you've ever owned a true quality leather bag, the leather is saturated ("tanned") through the skin with color- alternatively, the color on this D&B scratches off very easily with any minor damage, and once exposed, the leather just under the surface paint looks horrible.

This is a beautiful bag. This is a huge bag. This is a heavy bag. I loved this bag. It was well made, and the leather was gorgeous. The top was a nice wide opening- easy to get things in and out of. But, it had to go back- it was HUGE! I could seriously have used it as an overnight bag. I know that huge bags are all the rage right now, but when everybody's shoulders and backs begin to hurt, they won't have to look too far for the cause... the shipping label said four pounds...I'll say about three pounds when you subtract the box- and that's EMPTY! I ended up with the D&B small Lucy- not quite what I wanted, as I loved the sleeker style of the Zipper Pocket Sac- I just wanted it smaller. But I looked at D&B's website, and the Zipper Pocket Sac isn't made in small, so it was back to Zappos for the Lucy! Thanks, Zappos, for making my birthday a good one!
