This is a winner of a coat -- if you have a slim build. It's cut close to the body through the armpits and torso, with a full skirt for ease in walking. I love the way it fits and looks, and how warm it keeps me in frigid weather. It would not have worked if I was at all fuller-figured for my size.

I ordered this along with Patagonia's Down With It Parka to compare their fit and style. Be aware that this parka is nearly full-length, and at 5'7" it hit my mid-calf. It's like wearing a down comforter that looks fabulous. And it's nearly as comfortable. This parka fits nicely and because of the 800 fill, it doesn't look as frumpy as the Down With It or some other 600 fill jackets. I would have needed to order an XS in the Down With It to get the same tailored look as the S in this parka, but with less space for layering. Both jackets are very warm, but again this one was superior, and not only because of its longer length. It also has nicer detailing - like an insulated flap over the zipper and fleece on the inside cuffs. I agree with others that the pockets are not big enough, and that is something I liked better about the Down With It. But this one had a better placement (the pockets on the Down With It are too high for me). My only beef with this jacket is that it's not ripstop fabric, and more than that, the snaps are extremely difficult to undo. So much that it made me think they would eventually rip out of the fabric! Not a good design. Otherwise - exquisite and well worth the extra money if you are on the fence between this and Down With It.

I found the previous reviews extremely helpful as I have long been looking for "the perfect" long black coat! I am almost 5'11" and this coat comes to about 4" below my knee. Although I noted that one reviewer mentioned the "slim" fit, I was not aware until I noticed on the tag that this actually is a "slim fit" as defined by Patagonia. If I had know that I'm not sure I would have ordered it as I don't typically think of myself as someone who would order a slim-fit anything! It is the most flattering coat I've ever owned and I constantly looking for opportunities to go out in the cold now! Unlike some other reviewers I love the hood. I like that is looks like a shawl collar when it's down and I like that when it's up I have enough coverage on top of my head but I can still see peripherally. The absolute PERFECT coat!

I love this coat. I stand at a bus stop 2 times a day in the northeast. This coat cuts all the wind and is very lightweight. The hood stays in place. This coat is worth the money. It also does not look bulky. I get compliments every time I wear it.

I've been looking for years for a warm down coat with a hood that looked dressy enough for work or going out and also does not attract and hold on to dog hair, very hard to find. This fills the bill in every way. I'm 5'6 at 125 lbs and the Medium was perfect.

This may be my favorite coat that I have ever owned. It is incredibly warm despite its incredibly light weight. The integrated hood is very well designed - both very attractive and very functional - and the right depth (many are not deep enough).
The brown color has a beautiful eggplanty sheen to it in certain lights / at certain angles.

I was looking for an ankle length coat that zips to the bottom. I am 5'1" and I thought this would not be such a hard task, but I struggled to find something that actually zipped all the way down to keep out the wind, which is why I wanted such a long coat. My current down coat snaps at the bottom and would just let in too much wind. Since I live in NYC I am often out walking the wind and cold, so I wanted full coverage and protection. This fit the bill exactly. It is ankle length on me. Nice easy to use zipper and it is a double zipper so if I want more leg movement (I don't seem to need it) or want to unzip a bit from the bottom that is an option. As others mentioned the snaps feels a little flimsy - or like pulling them might rip the coat - but it was so perfect for me in other ways I am hoping this is more of a fear than a reality. The fabric is very soft with a little sheen. My male co-worker actually called the shape of it "flattering." As I am short, but not slender, I appreciated the "slim" cut. I don't need more fabric than I have flesh. Although I am a size 14 in the hips, the large Loft Parka fit me in the hips. It is right at my hipline, but does not pull or look like it is too tight. The sleeves are a little long on me, but I am fine with that - knowing it is not a "petite" cut. I wish the hood had a drawstring to pull it tight, but I am willing to sacrifice that for the full zipper. I got it in brown (Zappos didn't have the black in large) and actually have gotten a few compliments on it so far and decided to keep it in brown. So far, with below freezing temps and wind, I have found the coat has been completely warm. I only wish my gloves were as warm as the coat!

My merino wool knee-length pea coat, while sufficient in the fall, was not keeping me warm when the really cold weather hit. I have had a goose down comforter for years, and always relished it when the nights got chilly, but it wasn't until recently that I hit upon the idea to get a coat filled with the same stuff. Am I glad I did! I ordered it from Zappos on a Monday morning and received at my work Tuesday morning. That night, it hit 20 degrees for the first time, and the coat kept me warm. It has been as cold as 6 degrees Fahrenheit, with winds of 30mph. I can't say that I'm toasty warm under those conditions, but I'm reasonably comfortable. I certainly don't feel utterly miserable at 6 degrees, as I did in my wool coat at 30. Perhaps if I wore thermals under my clothes I would be perfectly comfortable. I am 5ft 7in and this coat comes midway down my calves. I'm a US size 16 and the XL coat just fits me. The material that the coat is made out of feels very thin, which does worry me, but maybe it's like parachute material; light and strong. Still, I am getting little down feathers coming out of the coat, not just from the seams. The snaps are very tight, and make a very loud sound when pulling them apart. The two-way zipper is very handy, especially since I'm always putting my phone in my pants pocket and then putting my coat on. I usually hate long coats and jackets, because when I sit down and try to move my arms, I am very constricted in my shoulders and upper arms. Not so with this coat, at all. I have full range of motion in my arms without tightness or constriction when I'm driving. I love this coat just for that. I have somewhat longer arms than normal. Most coats (and long-sleeve shirts) will come three inches or four inches from my wrist, especially when I raise my arms a bit, but this coat's sleeves are long enough to cover my wrist even when I'm driving. They might be a little long for most women's comfort, but I honestly can't see how anyone would object to a down sleeve covering their knuckles when it's nearing zero. Overall, I'm quite happy with this coat, though I will keep it away from anything sharp. I'm considering getting the shorter jacket version for fall and early spring, too.

Way too long! I am 5'2" and 113 lb and ordered a medium which fit with a sweater but it reaches almost to the ground! Also, the sleeves are about 3 inches too long! Too bad -- I love the coat. It would be better if there were a petite version.

I'm 5'2 and was worried that this coat would be too long, but it is just the right length for what I want walking around a cold city. It might be too long for getting in and out of cars but it will definitely keep me warm when walking outside. Only minor complaint is that it is hard to zipper.

It is warm and has nice lines but:
The hood is just not at all attractive
The pockets are very shallow, can barely tuck a tissue in them
The dainty zips on the pockets are impossible to unzip with gloves and still very difficult to unzip with frozen hands.

Was expecting a pretty midnight blue, this is a dull navy. Also I wish it had fur trim on hood, and a sash for flattering fit. But I suppose it would keep one warm.

I am not part of this company. I am simply just a customer. I must say that I have never experienced people from an organization who honestly display such sincere kindness. Ladies like Erica L who helped me with my order. My wife is very ill and I needed a warm coat for her. Erica who I found to be a wonderful women displayed kindness beyond words. I called back to thank her for what she did. Her boss Melissa spoke with me and she was the same way. You folks are truly exceptional. My wife and I thank you so much. I pray that god blesses all of you and your extraordinary company. May the light of the almighty lord bless your journey through life and the lives of each and ever one of your staff along with their families at Zappos.

The coat is awesome and I love it! Super warm, very flattering lines, the French Roast color is just lovely. The black was great too, I had ordered it in black first because the French Roast was not available. I love black but have a black North Face Triple C, but I wanted this coat. Then the French Roast became available in my size so I ordered it, and I had to fight hard to stop myself from keeping both coats, because it is that nice I wanted two of them! But I was good and returned the black! I have no problems with the snaps once they broke in a bit, the zipper works fine if one is reasonably careful and as far as feathers coming out, maybe a few, certainly no more than any other down coat I have owned. I totally recommend this coat; it's worth every penny.

This coat is awesome and well worth the price! I love the style, the quality is amazing and the French Roast color is particularly striking. I have had none of the problems I saw some of the other reviewers did, the snaps were fine once they kind of broke in a little, the zipper is fine and as far as feather loss, just a few poked though as would with any down garment. Go for the coat, you won't be sorry!

This was a gift to a good family friend. She loves it! It's warm, easily wearable, and looks surprisingly dressy for a down coat. Fit was perfect (can't remember what size, but I followed sizing charts for her height/weight). The hood is great, as this woman needs to wear a wig and can't wear hats. It's not too bulky but keeps her warm. The only possible problem is that the zipper did seem to stick at the bottom when she first put it on, as one other reviewer commented. However, with increased use it seems to be loosening up and has not yet caused a problem or broken. That would be my only concern about the coat, if any. Feel good about my purchase.

I love this jacket. It is the first down coat I have found that is incredibly warm and has a very fitted/sleek look. It is not "puffy" at all. Also, the hood - although admittedly not that attractive when on - actually comes down over your forehead so it won't fall off in wind. Great coat!

Great warmth with little weight! It is kind of like a sleeping bag, though, as it is very long. I tried several similar coats, but this was a clear winner. Each time I put it on, it just felt so wonderful and luxurious. Kept me warm for hours at the ice rink watching my son's hockey practice and games. Can't wait for the weather to turn colder! This is a beautiful, warm, and lightweight coat!

The coat is amazing - warm, lightweight and stylish. I am short but still love the long length of the coat, as the iowa winters are brutal.

I just got this coat, and can't wait to wear it. Who knew that something one step away from being a sleeping bag could be so feminine and flattering. I'm 5'9 and 125 lbs and the medium fits perfectly. It hits well below my knees, the sleeves are a good length for me, and even though the coat is a slim fit, it's not constricting. I tried the coat on with a turtleneck, then added a cashmere sweater, then added a quilted vest, and the coat was still comfortable. A big, bulky cable knit sweater might be a little tight. I agree that the pockets could be a bit deeper and bigger, but it's not a deal breaker. The hood, when it's down, functions as a warm collar. When it's up, the interior elastic seems like it will keep out the wind. The hood is also roomy enough to wear another hat underneath. The coat might be more insulation than I really need for New England, but my early morning walk to work, against the cold north wind, will be so much warmer, and I will not feel under dressed wearing the coat to dinner and evening events in the city.

The best purchase I have done in regards to a winter coats. Light and warm (although I live in area that there is no harsh snowy winter), stylish and slim looking. The only down sides I would change are snaps because they are loud and a hood because it makes me look goofy. However keeps my head warm. I think the price is a bit too much but overall I am glad I bought it.

This is an elegant looking parka but it is very light. Although it is 800 fill down, I wanted something that felt a little more substantial. It also slightly looks like a bathrobe because of the way it hangs. The material is not waterproof and the hood looks terrible, but is well fitted. If you want something very warm, I suggest the Tremaya instead. I bought that and this and will only keep the Tremaya. However, if I lived in NYC or someplace more urban and not as cold, I may be tempted to keep this instead.

I just received the jacket today...gotta love Zappos for their speedy shipping! I was looking for something extremely warm yet professional enough looking to wear to work on cold days (-10 to 20 degrees). This is a really pretty jacket, seems to be of good quality, and is extremely comfortable. I like how it has lined pockets in the front and an inside pocket. However, I'm 5'7" and it is really long - it came down past my knees. It also doesn't have any type of lining and the ends of the sleeves are loose so I'm not confident it would perform well in windy weather. I'm returning this and am back on my quest for the perfect jacket.
