love the versatility of this jacket. I was debating between the Tres Parka and North Face's Arctic Parka. I went with Patagonia and I'm glad I did. The fabric is far more superior and the fit is way more flattering with the cinching at the waist. Perfect for smaller folks who look like they're swimming in large winter parkas. Cons: Yes, the pockets are super shallow and the main zipper seems wimpy and gets stuck occasionally. However, I like the coat too much to return it. Patagonia has a great return policy like LL Bean, so you can always take it back to their store if it doesn't perform to your liking. Also, this jacket is warm, but if you're the kind of person that whips out their down jacket when it hits the 50s, you might want to consider a different jacket. It's warm, but not toasty when it's frigid out.

This was the best money that I have ever spent. They are warm enough to keep you toasty in the New York winter. The front pockets are a little small. Other then that the coat can be both casual and dressy. Being 5'2" and 128 pounds I bought a size medium. It has enough room for a sweater or baggy hooded sweat shirt. It is well made and worth the money!

Fabulous coat, versatile, fits great. And the people at Zappos are the best! I go looking there first to find something because it is an absolute pleasure working with them!

I have had this coat about a month. It is a fantastic coat for the Great Lakes region.
I have worn it in snow and rain. The hood allows great visibility while keeping you nice and dry.
It is a snug fitting coat. I am 5'8 and 130 lbs; the small fits perfectly, form fitting, not a lot of extra room.
I have worn the coat all three ways. The inside liner is thin and I was worried that it would not keep me warm, but it is very toasty. I wore the coat with the liner in 43 degree weather and was too hot. At 32 degrees I can wear a t-shirt with the coat and be completely comfortable outside.
Downsides to the coat are the pockets; they are small and difficult to zip, and the outside coat is difficult to zip.
Overall this is a great coat. I know the price is steep, but hopefully it will last a few years. I have received many compliments about it.

The Tres parka has kept me super warm and dry this winter -- and it's been super cold, snowy and icy in New York this year. The parka blocks the wind effectively, and is water-tight. It's also cozy, but doesn't look like a sleeping bag. A few minuses: the down liner has shed quite a bit, beginning on the day I got it. The zipper broke, and I had to have it replaced. A fleece lined collar and hood would be nice, as would a slightly more tailored shape. And some cuter colors? Bottom Line: Gets the job done well, but there's room for improvement.

I'm a short and round person and can frequently wear an XL. This was too tight! Couldn't even zip it. Disappointed.

For such an expensive coat the least you would expect would be decent stitching! The stitching on both zipper pockets came apart within two weeks. I have not returned it, not worth the hassle and I really need the coat right now. I have opted instead to simply remove the zippers as it is too expensive to have them repaired.

I bought this coat to take with me on a February Trip to Paris. It just happened to be the coldest days Paris had seen in a long while. I would have been freezing without it. The Down liner keeps you toasty warm. The jacket itself does have a very slim cut, but I was able to wear a warm cashmere or knit sweater underneath it. I am a size 8 and bought a medium. The pockets are VERY small, but they do have zippers so while my hands weren't an exact fit I was able to zip my gloves, map and whatever I needed securely into it. I don't normally write reviews but I do love this jacket and would recommend it for cold weather whether it be Paris, France or Boston where I call home.

A year ago today I bought this "magic" coat. It has been my favorite since it arrived. Versatile and becoming, it serves well in a variety of conditions and I especially appreciate it on cold rainy days. I live in mid-coast Maine and have worn it daily for months. It looks like new, feels snug, gets compliments, and I call it magic. It does run a bit snug but a large fit me perfectly. (I'm 5'7" with a 40" bust and over 60 years old.) I have recommended this coat to several younger women, telling them, if you had to limit to a single coat, this would be it.

Agree with the review that front zipper on the outer jacket is tricky. Other than that, love this coat! I've worn it casually and with dressy clothes. Gives the perfect amount of warmth (wore the liner and shell when it was in the 30's, and liner only when it's in the 50's). Love how customizable it is and how easy it is to come apart.

I love this coat. It's fitted but not too tight. I feel like I am walking around in a down sleeping bag! And love the fact that I can take out the lining and wear it as a rain coat in the spring.

This is about twice as much money as I wanted to spend on a coat, but it is three times as nice as anything else I tried.
I ordinarily wear a small (curvy,5'5", 130#), bought a Medium, and it fits great.
Fabric seems sturdy; style is versatile.

This is truly three coats in one and has a great slimming fit. It has typical Patagonia high quality construction and performance. I am 5'4" and slim but got medium to winter accommodate underlayers.

A wonderful coat and warm enough for the northern Minnesota winters, the only thing I would wish they had noted is this coat is a slim fit, it does come in a regular fit and a relaxed fit, but maybe not through Zappos. The slim fit works for me, but would have gotten the regular fit if I had a choice. I can still wear a bulky sweater under it if I want to, but it is just a bit snug when I do, but not uncomfortable.
I'd also recommend:
The Sorel Waterfall boot goes well with this coat, toasty warm.

I agree with others who have reviewed this parka: too tight in the waist. Despite that, it was still nice & roomy in shoulders - I could easily move arms. But sitting down was uncomfortably tight. I'd love the parka if it was just a little less fitted. I also had some sticking with the zipper, but that was minor. Outer fabric was really nice. Otherwise it looks like it would have been perfect for a cold windy ND winter.

I like it a lot, but it needs some improvement, especially at this price range. The pockets are very tiny and you cannot put your hands all the way in, let alone store gloves or a hat. I like the outer shell material. It is soft, flexible, stretchy, does not make noise when you move around. The front zipper is too tiny to work with and takes some work to make it catch to zip up. I am 5'5" 125 lbs, the small is flattering but snug, so only good to wear over thinner shirts. The medium was way too big in the torso and did not look feminine or flattering, a huge size difference from the small. I am definitely keeping this one. It's hard to find a down coat with a waterproof outer layer.

I, like one of the other reviewers, considered purchasing the North Face Artic Parka. I decided to go with the Patagonia after reading the fabric was much nicer, in addition to looking a little more stylish. I am one of the pickiest women when it comes to style. I was apprehensive, because I purchased this jacket for my upcoming trip to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It's a little more colder there than here on the East Coast. At the same time, I didn't want to look frumpy. I know functionality is more important than how one looks. I'm not necessarily a fashion expert, but this jacket unites the best of both worlds. It also solves my problem for having to bring a nicer peacoat for fine dining, etc. This coat is easily dressed up or worn a little more casual. I'm 5'7 and wear a DD bra. The X-Large fits, with enough room for a bulkier sweater or sweatshirt. I typically wear a med/large, however, I based my decision on buying a larger size due to my chest size and my arms are not toothpicks. I would be very careful if you have a chest size larger than a DD, if considering the XLarge. I imagine the length is ideal for average to tall women. It's also SERIOUSLY light. When I picked up the 4.5 oz box by my front door, I was worried this wouldn't work. We've been experiencing below 0 weather recently and this is SO ideal. I'll be able to walk without freezing. Yes, some of the feathers slip out. It's a down jacket! They all do that, but don't let that fool you. This jacket is extremely well made and worth every penny. It'll last you for years. Lastly, I did not experience ANY issues with my zipper as some of the other reviewers mentioned. Can't wait to take this on my travels and take more walks! Highly recommended on all aspects, comfort, style, and quality.

A very nice, very warm down parka. Didn't care for the flare at the hem line; otherwise very well made. Am 124 lbs., 5'4" and am returning a large which fit.

This coat is my new favorite. If I had only one coat, this would be it. Versatile, it is wind and waterproof, warm, converts to a raincoat with hood that fits well, and the liner is good for dry, chilly conditions. I love it in black. It fit me well in size L (I'm slender but not too thin and 5'7). It feels cozy, like getting a hug. Main zipper is a bit flimsy as noted by others and not as smooth operating as preferred, but the fabric is great and the styling sleek. Overall, tops. Thanks Zappos for having it on sale just when I needed it!

I have searched for 2 years for a versatile coat travel. I wanted something like my 3-in-1 jacket that was more sleek looking. This coat is very pricey and normally I would never pay this much for a coat however after looking at MULTIPLE coats and not finding what I'm looking for, I decided to stick with this Patagonia. It has all the features you would expect from a quality brand like Patagonia -- 2 way zipper, inside zippers, flattering cut. I can wear the liner and the outer layer as two separate coats or zip the two together (another feature I love) and have a warm, wind/rain repellent coat. Although I preferred the black (for international travel), I ordered the grey because it was on sale. The dark grey is very nice and sleek looking and the lighter grey inner coat will work for me. The length is perfect. The cut is flattering. The hood is great -- big enough to do the job but doesn't swallow your head like some hoods. My husband complimented the fit and look right away when he saw me in this coat and he doesn't usually notice "something new" for several weeks! :)

This jacket is awesome! It's very warm (I wore it comfortably in -20 degree weather) and has a flattering fit. I wanted one jacket that could serve as an all purpose rain-/snow-/dress-jacket, and this one does all of this. I'm 5'6", 130 lbs, with a 38" chest, and the medium fits me perfectly.

I love this parka. It's slim, has long enough sleeves and it's very warm and waterproof, too. I've worn the outer jacket as a rain jacket and the entire system as a winter parka. I haven't yet worn the inner down coat alone but I will when the weather is a little warmer. Very stylish. Expensive but definitely worth it.

This coat is pricey, but it is fantastic. I ordered this for a trip to Ireland in December and it kept me warm and dry. The fitted shape makes it very flattering for a winter coat. It was great in the wind and rain, I used the hood a lot. If it had been warmer, I just would have zipped out the down liner and it would have been perfect as a raincoat. Love it.
