This is really an attractive parka. If you are thinking about this over a puffy North Face parka, I think this has more features and you are much less likely to encounter a neighbor or two or three with the same coat. It's cleverly designed to easily zip apart, and I like the inner down coat by itself. It's bulkier than Patagonia's Duete, and the sleeves are slightly longer, but I guess that makes sense given that there is a whole other jacket hiding underneath. I actually prefer these pockets to the Duete's. You only have to unzip them (versus unsnapping and unzipping on the Duete) and the lining is so soft. Good placement too. The inner jacket has its own, similar pockets. I'm 5'6" and 120 lbs. and ordered the small. I wonder if I could fit in the XS...I'm probably right in between. For this reason, I doubt I'd wear the outer jacket on its own--too roomy and I already have a nice raincoat.

Love this parka. looks great on, super warm and comfortable. Wore all season to ski racing events that I was always standing around in cold, snowy weather. I'm thinking if you remove liner it will also be a good rain shell. Very flattering as well. Can't say enough good things about this one!

I love this jacket. Having the benefit of getting 3 jackets in one is great. I wear the down insert the most on its own. I have worn the outer layer for rain. Together the entire jacket is perfect for a winter snowstorm or just really cold weather. I read the other reviews and ended up ordering the jacket in Medium. I normally wear a 4-6 in my tops. The medium seemed fine, but wearing the jackets separately they seemed to have lots of extra, unnecessary fabric. I ended up ordering the small size just to try. It felt a little tight when layering with other jackets underneath, but as separates looks great. I ended up keeping the small and could not be happier.

My daughter recommended this coat and I'm so glad I took her suggestion. It's warm, comfortable and attractive. The zipper can be a tad difficult (as others have noted) but that's my only complaint.

The only thing I have to add to the other reviews (I read them all!) is that I think the pockets are great! No, you can't fit your bulky mittens, keys and phone in one but they are not at all small! The zippers are also great! I don't like that I have to bend over like a child to zipper the coat but I am getting old so that could possibly be an age thing! And if course, Zappos is always wonderful to work with! The customer relations are always above the norm and I love it!

I bought this coat for my wife as a Christmas gift. She loves it. It fits great and is not too bulky for an insulated coat. The liner is removable so you can use it three seasons. With the liner in it is very warm for cold winter days. You can pull the liner out in the spring and fall and use it as jacket. The shell is water proof so it can be used as a rain coat as well. The versatility makes it worth the investment. I got the coat in a dark grey. It gives it a little bit of a more formal look so you could wear it to the office or out to dinner. I have owned other items form Patagonia and the quality is outstanding. Their stuff lasts for years. I have been really pleased so and would highly recommend this product.

This is a great jacket! It keeps me toasty warm at hockey and football games. It looks good wearing around town. It was the perfect coat that I did not know I wanted until I found it.

Love this coat! Very warm - love the down interior and waterproof shell and hood. Definitely an outdoor coat - not great for shopping tho as indoors, you become too warm fast. We live in Maine and this coat keeps out the wind and cold. A stylish coat, too.

I have had this coat since last season, LOVE IT! The only thing I would complain is small front pockets.

This coat is well worth the money. I am 5'6 and 160 pounds and the medium fit snug but well. I have trouble finding coats that zip around my midsection, as I have bigger rear end. This coat allows for a lot of movement and doesn't restrict your arms or shoulders. The outer shell is removable, giving you year round options for warmth.Patagonia has designed the zippers brilliantly as they are hidden yet easily accessible. The arms are a bit longer, which I like as it keeps my hands warm and discourages air from entering up the sleeves. The inside cuff of the arm ( around the hand) is a soft material that feels wonderful. The hood is also detachable. Patagonia also offers a fantastic warranty and will replace any item with defects, no questions asked. Very pleased.

I love this jacket. It is like wearing a waterproof down comforter. That is completely amazing. Normally jackets that are this warm are bulky, but this one has a very flattering slim fit.

I bought the cream version a couple of winters ago. It was so pricey so I hesitated to start using it for a while (thought I might return it), but once I took it out of the bag for good I have loved it. It is toasty-warm for me even with just a thin camisole and cotton turtleneck under it when I walk my dog in the middle of winter, even on a snowy night. I do wear snowboarding pants and a pair of Uggs with it, which I guess helps ward off the cold. I have gotten quite a few compliments on it as being very stylish and well-made, and those people were right! It is very fitted, and I could have moved up to XL, but I have kept the large as I think it is better-looking. I cannot wear any bulky sweater under it, but I will not need that anyway with how warm the coat keeps me. I am 5'6", 150 pounds with a muscular build, and usually wear 12. The pockets are quite small, as some reviewers said, but I can still put regular gloves in them; I think they would bulge too much for the style of the coat if they were bigger or deeper. If I could have only one winter coat, this would be it! Money well-spent!

I love this jacket. I am tall and it has long sleeves that don't hike up to my elbows when I raise my arms. It is very warm without being bulky. Perfect everyday coat for Chicago winters.

This coat is not only classy but functional and comfortable! I love that there is no logo on the front, especially since I purchased the black in order to dress up/down as needed. I had been wearing my cashmere coats in all weather until my boyfriend bought me this one for my birthday. The shell is perfect for fall/spring rainfalls and with a hoodie will be great into early winter. The liner is cute alone with it's nice slim cut but the two pieces together pack a serious warmth punch. I can't wait for the first snowstorm!

Unbelievable coat... keeps me toasty warm in the coldest wind and weather, but oddly regulates and allows me to be comfortable inside as well while shopping etc. Quality of fabric is incredible - fit is great. It does run very snug and a bit small compared to other Patagonia - the small fit me (I am usual size 4-6) BUT wouldn't have worked with anything but lightweight shirt underneath. Medium was perfect and very flattering. It works for casual and business wear. Oddly I have to say the fit in real life is better than on this model - she must be very small as it appears to swim on her?

Love this Jacket. I am 5'4" with a 36D chest and weigh about 138 pounds. I wear a size Medium, but ordered a large because I need to put this jacket over work clothing (jackets, sweaters, etc). Plus, I live in the Mountains and it is often 0 degrees in the morning with snow covering my car. This jacket is going to be perfect for both work and casual. I wouldn't recommend ordering so large if you aren't in need of the layering. I do not have problems with the feathers as some customers have reviewed. That's not to say I won't have a few here and there, but not a true problem, in my opinion. Order the jacket, especially if it is on sale!

Great coat if you know what you're getting. For northern Vermont this is perfect for fall and spring but is definitely NOT a winter coat. PROS: I wore it to chip ice on the driveway in 40 degree rain and stayed completely dry . The shell is wonderful wind block as well. Removable lining extends use of shell when the weather warms up. CONS Thin inner down lining, sheds feathers. No fleece cuffs or fleece around the neck - read "drafty". The hood is unlined. Not as warm as I expected. I bought this on sale so I kept it for spring and fall use, but for the full price tag, it wouldn't be worth it to me. I bought a much much warmer Canada Goose coat for more than this for winter wear. I'm 5'6". 120lbs and the extra small fits well with room for a not too bulky sweater.

Overall, this is a great coat because it functions well, but it's not perfect. One reason I bought it was reviews reported that it was both windproof and waterproof. There are plenty of waterproof coats available in the market but not so windproof. I get bad earaches in a cold wind, so that was important to me. And I have found it to be true. That feature was tested this last winter on one bitterly cold, snowy and windy day, and when I put the hood up, I felt like a wall went up around my head that broke the force of the wind very effectively. No earache! My body was well protected from the blasts of weather. So I am pleased with the coat. The construction of it (seams, stitching) seem good quality. And though some people have complained about the size of pockets, I think they are fine. I do have 3 complaints, though: the sleeves are very long, the snaps to close the coat are very loud to ubsnap when removing the coat, and the down liner "leaks" feathers onto my clothing. I decided the sleeve length and loud snaps are not preferable but survivable, but the feather problem -- which I discovered after I had decided to keep it -- is a big annoyance. One would think Patagonia, for the price of this coat, would have used quality materials to avoid that problem! I have older and less expensive down coats (like from Eddie Bauer) that have never leaked feathers. Go figure. So with that caveat and warning, I still like the coat on a really cold, miserable day outside.

Bought this for a trip to Iceland in the winter and it worked great. Warm, windproof and waterproof. Not very stylish so I don't know how often I will wear it otherwise. Sleeves are too long and I have long arms. Zipper is a bit difficult. Color is nice.

I've had this coat for several months now, and where I am it goes down to -27 C (-14 F), and I've worn this ensemble around with only one or two thin layers underneath. It keeps me warm enough that I don't need any thick, bulky sweaters. That said, there are a couple of things that annoy me about the set. Pros: - very easy to remove or add the lining - keeps me very warm in sub-zero temps Cons: - pockets are small and dainty (the two outside pockets can hold my thin gloves, but any thick gloves tend to stick out. And I wouldn't trust the outside pockets with my phone or keys unless I kept it zipped up. There is only one inside pocket, and it's only on the down liner coat, so when I wear just the outer coat without the insulation, then the coat lacks an inside pocket for my phone. - the nature of having a removable liner this warm means that when I remove it and just wear the outer shell, the coat is a bit loose on me. It's good for when you have to live out a suitcase and can only pack one coat, but it's something to keep in mind.

The 2012 version in the new colors comes with deeper pockets than the prior years' version. The Prussian blue was a little too grey looking for me... I was looking for a little pop of color to cheer up the winter. I love that the parka has all snaps, no velcro. It's well designed, flattering, and warm! Perhaps most importantly, it doesn't shed feathers onto your sweater underneath.

These are stylish and warm. The zippers go top-down and bottom-up, which I love. My only gripe is that the down liner sheds feathers and I feel pricks as a result. Not to mention that "chicken coop" look that I am just not sure that the rest of the world is ready for. I am a longtime buyer of Patagonia clothes. I am familiar with their level of quality, and felt the jacket was not made with the strong attention to quality. Still, it is a great urban coat for folks like me who layer.

This is a great jacket and is perfect for the truly nasty winter weather. It handles cold and all types of precipitation well. My only complaint is that the pocket zippers are very small and can be hard to grasp if you are wearing gloves. It really is the ultimate winter jacket!

I bought this jacket and I really love the way it fits. It has not been cold since I bought it so I have no idea how warm it really is. The only complaint that I have about the jacket is that the sleeves are a few inches to long.

We had an exceptionally cold winter (even for us Minnesotans). I was disappointed in the "warmth" of this jacket and wish I would have gotten a regular down jacket instead of this- the "down" portion is fairly thin and would not be warm enough by itself below 30 degrees. The combination of the two adds windbreaker protection but doesn't add much warmth. I do like the look of the jacket and I like both the parka alone and the down alone for spring/fall (note that our spring and fall may be your winter weather). Also, the wrists are fairly loose and it lets in breeze up your arms which makes it cooler. Did run a little narrow but I found it gave a little more "shape" than a typical winter parka.
