I loved these shoes, especially for travel. But after only 2 10-day trips plus a minimal amount of other wear over a period of 4 years, the heel of one shoe came out of alignment with the rest of the last. You could only see it if you looked for it but you could feel something was off. I hated to throw them out but my heel started to ache. This should not have happened.

Shoes fit great, good enough support for 10-12 hour shifts. Dressy enough for dress pants at work. Huge downfall only had them 2 months max and they have separated at the front, the rubber has loosened from the rest of the shoe. Super disappointed! I like the style but the quality is not up to par for anyone who needs to walk around all day on concrete floors for 10 hours, 2 months of ownership and they are falling apart, I shouldn't need shoe glue that soon. Bought them on 2/15/2013, today is 4/13/21013 and they have been separated at the rubber for a few weeks already.

These are much more narrow in the width than I normally found with Merrell shoes. Too narrow for me, and also seemed a little smaller in length, otherwise a nice shoe.

Disappointed in these. I was looking for a new pair of work shoes, and have been very happy with Merrells in the past. These fit my foot comfortably, but have no arch support and are slightly unstable/tippy. Definitely not going to work for being on my feet all day. They'd probably be fine if you just need to wear them to a business dinner or something, though. Ended up going with the Merrell Encore Eclipse.

The collar is an interesting feature, but makes it hard to slide my foot in, and also the footbed, especially under the ball of my foot was not cushiony, even just trying on briefly at home. Will try Dansko instead...

I thought this was a great looking shoe, especially for the winter as it would look like a boot with slacks. But the opening was so narrow I couldn't get my foot into it to even try it on - this one was returned.

I really wanted to love these shoes, as I think that they're great looking, but, they were so hard to get on! I couldn't tell if they were comfortable or not because of how hard it was to get my foot in them. When I had them on it seemed like they fit fine, but my foot hurt. Too bad.

I love Merrell shoes and find they generally fit well and true to size. I could not even get these on! If you can fit in them they look like they could be good.

Sad day for me! had to return these wonderful shoes. They are so narrow I can't even get my foot in. I have purchased this exact style before and wore them out. I was expecting to receive another pair that would have been close to the last pair.

I bought this same shoe style several years ago and wore the sole off. I was excited to see that I could still purchase it and so I did. The new shoe was so stiff that I couldn't get it on my foot--even with the aid of a shoe horn. If you can't get it on your foot, you can't wear it. Sadly, they are going back and I will select a different black comfort shoe.

Unfortunately, the opening of the shoe is WAY too small. I thought these would be "the ones". I could get the shoe onto my smaller foot after several minutes of trying. Then it felt perfect. Couldn't get it on my other foot. Even if I could get the next size up on, then it would be too big in fit. Too bad.

This would have been my 3rd pair of Merrell Spire shoes but something has definitely changed. Like others have said they are so stiff and tight that they are almost impossible to get on. Once you have them on they are not comfortable. I have a narrow foot ordered the same size as the last two pairs. Very disappointed in Merrell. Over the years, except for their hiking shoes, their shoes have gone downhill. Back they go.

These shoes are so extremely tight that I could barely get them on. I have narrow feet which makes no sense. I love Merrell but this shoe is a huge disappointment.

I wanted so very much to love this shoe. And while it was extremely comfortable, it is just not even a little bit attractive to me. OK with long jeans, but I don't get to wear long jeans that often. The shoe runs a bit narrow, which is perfect for my narrow foot, but might not work for a true medium width foot.

The shoe wasn't my favorite for style, but seemed comfortable enough for a day at work, on my feet all day. The real disappointment was about a half year into owning these, when the 'leather' exterior connecting the upper to the sole cracked and split , revealing the cloth lining underneath. They looked so cheap and old I never wore them again.

This is the third pair of these shoes I've owned. The first pair lasted through several years of frequent wearing, the second, not as long. My current, third pair I purchased not quite three months ago and the bottom sole is already separating from the rest of the shoe. I'm very disappointed in your company, Merrell! Why have you allowed your quality to decline so much?!

I read the reviews and thought that the show would be ok for my narrow feet. I had a really hard time getting my foot into the shoe. Once my foot was in they fit ok, but they were really noisy/squeaking when walking on my tile floor. I just had a metatarsal osteotomy on my left big toe, so I decided to return the shoe rather than struggle putting it on every time with my sore foot. To clarify, the shoe was difficult to put on my non hurt foot as well.

I like the way these shoes look but I could not get my foot in the shoe with socks on. Finally with very thin socks, I got them on. Once on, they felt good but I think they are definitely winter shoes and require heavier socks so I sent back.

Have worn this shoe for years but it has changed and I can not get it on at all. Too too tight and not flexible.

This is a very stiff, non-flexible shoe. So stiff that I was not able to get my foot into it! Maybe if I had a narrow foot I would have been able to actually try it on.

Wow. First of all I nearly killed fingers trying to get these shoes on. Slip ons? More like pull and tug and force on. The top part of the shoe is high and inflexible making these VERY hard to get on. Once on, I was disappointed. My last pair of Merrels felt like running shoes. So cozy. These feel like hard clogs. My feet felt cramped at the top and at the toe box though I do not wear a wide shoe. Worse still, the shoe heel slips on and off as you walk so I could imagine getting blisters. The bottom part of the shoe was also hard like a clog- not cushy at all like my last pair of Merrels. I am so disappointed and wonder what the great reviews were all about. RETURN!

I have been buying the Spire for several years. This is my third or fourth pair. One of the most comfortable and supportive shoes that I have ever owned! However, I am extremely disappointed in the pair that I recently purchased. As other reviewers have noted they are falling apart after only a few weeks of wear. These used to be very sturdy shoes, providing at least a year of heavy use. I have challenging flat feet prone to heel spurs so I replace my shoes often. I wear these to work and they are starting to look unprofessional and cheap. The sole is separating from the body of the shoe on both feet, and the black coating on the side panels is rubbing off. It will not be long before they are unusable. What gives, Merrell? I noticed this is a Zappos exclusive. Zappos should make them improve the quality back to what it used to be or quit carrying it.

I guess I got a lemon because these shoes have fallen apart faster than any other shoes that I have ever worn. I have had them for less than six months and rotate them in/out of many other pairs of shoes. The soles have ripped away from the main part of the shoe. This has happened on both sides in different spots. I superglued them the first time, but now other parts have ripped and they are not really usable. I really like these shoes and am willing to try another pair. I just hope that I do not feel ripped off again given that I have not really fully worn out these shoes. I am extremely disappointed with these shoes.

I had these shoes for about 3 months and wore them to work/church maybe a little over a dozen times. This morning I put them on and notice that the rubber sole is coming unglued on the right shoe. Not very high quality to come unglued after that short of time. Not impressed.

After wearing these for about a week, indoors only at the office, the sole began splitting at the toe on one shoe. It's now happened on both shoes and the soles appearing to be coming off. Very poor quality and very disappointing coming from Merrell. :(
