I really wanted to like this shoe. I have other Merrells and like the brand. I’m looking for some light weight, but sturdy hiking and walking shoes and these looked perfect in the photo. Unfortunately they just don’t fit. For starters, I had to re-order a full size larger, but even after getting those (quickly thanks to Zappos’ great service), I found them too narrow at the toes and the arch support uncomfortably high. Very out of character for the other Merrell shoes I have. Still like Merrell and I’m trying other styles, but this shoe is limited to those it will fit… and that isn’t me.

Sadly, first and last Merrells I will buy. Doesn’t fit my foot type. Too tight and I bought one size larger. Try them on first, I do not recommend them. Bulky and heavy.

They are pathetically small. Please have size that everyone is saying compared to every other Merrell shoe I wore it was way too small. At least one size.

I recently bought these shoes and I gotta say that I am pretty dissapointed. I have always wanted a pair of Merrells but, always settled for a different brand due to the price. Well, I splurdged and decided to give myself an early gift for fathers day. I also run in the Merrell down and dirty run in Philadelphia and I was hoping to wear these but, I choose not. The reasoning behind my beliefs: they are too heavy feel like cinder blocks. My small toe feels jammed in both shoes and I dont particularly have wide feet. Now the major reason, I was helping my wife bring in the groceries from the car and as I was coming up the steps I scuffed my front toe on the step and the rubber in the front became detached from the shoe. I thought these were suppossed to be rugged!!! Well, I am sure that my situation is unique because everyone else seems to be happy.

I've had these shoes for almost a year now with 100+ miles on them and they have never not hurt my feet. I mainly use them when trails are wet as I purchased the Goretex version. The Goretex wore out fairly quickly and now the out sides of my feet always get wet first. The soles are super soft and the tred wears out quickly. They are also always slippery when on wet surfaces. I've been wearing my other hiking shoes more then I wish because these always hurt my feet. I've tried changing the insoles but nothing seems to work. So now I pop some vitamin I every time i think about wearing these. I guess I'll have to sick to my older Merrell shoes.

This is a comfortable shoe, unfortunately the loudest shoe I have ever worn. I have three pairs of Merrell hiking ,two winter, one summer, and thought I would buy this pair for a casual shoe. I have been a fan of Merrell footwear for years. The intercept squeeks and chirps with every step I take. I assumed when I bought them that after a couple of months the squeeking would stop. I was wrong. This noisy shoe just continued to become louder to the point where I am embarrassed to wear them anywhere without a lot of background noise. They have not had any heavy or abnormal use, never been wet, only light use to work, to the mall, out to eat etc. So to my disappointment the Men's Intercept are being thrown to the back of the closet.

I have recently purchased the Merrell Intercept shoe and I am a little upset. I love everything about the shoe, from color, to price, to the versatility of it as well. I did quite a bit of research before I decided on the Intercept. Everything about the shoe is perfect except the front of my left shoe. The right shoe fits perfect and is extremely comfortable, but my toes in the left shoe are all jammed together and is incredibly uncomfortable. I cannot wear them for any longer than 15 minutes because such discomfort in my left foot. I have never had this problem with any other shoe I have ever owned, and for the price I have paid for them couldn't be more upset. This is not something I would expect for this kind of money or from a company with such a good reputation as Merrell.

Zappos -- great online store. This shoe - supposedly voted the most comfortable shoe in 2009 -- it is probably the most uncomfortable shoe. Had to take them off after 4 holes of golf (yes, I know they are not golf shoes). At least I found out playing in stocking feet is comfortable. Zappos 5 stars+, Merrell 0-.

i'm a big Merrell's fan as i think your shoes are fantastic. The Chameleon II's are the best pair of shoes i have ever owned, hence why i have 4 pairs of them! After purchasing the Intercept, i'm left some what disappointed. I've found the sizing to be a lot narrower than usual, which has led to me getting blisters on my little toes after extended use. I found this quite unfortunate and disappointing as all other Merrells i have, regardless of model, fit perfectly in the width. Also, the leather section with the holes on the inside wall of the shoe has become all wrinkled like it has water damage or something. Why this is, i'm unsure as i can't remember them getting wet. i guess this is a defect in the leather. While i know i will purchase another pair of Merrell's in the future, I have been left slightly discouraged and have lost confidence in the brand. I just hope the Chameleon 3 live up to my expectations!

It's difficult to rate this shoe. I bought these shoes for a 3 month backpacking trip in South America and 75% of the time, these shoes were great - comfortable and supportive (although they seemed to lack grip if I was walking on concrete/pavement/flat rocks that had slightly wet from mist/drizzle). However, the other 25% of the time, these shoes were absolutely hell to wear. Like the review from Sam King on 11/9/2009, I too experienced the 'fold' on my big toe and this resulted in a massive blister on the joint of my right big toe. This also occurred on my left toe but not to the point where I had a blister (it simply is rubbed raw). So whilst I'd happily recommend Merrell shoes if I only considered the 75%, the three months of hell I had when the shoe would randomly start rubbing on my big toe means I honestly would never recommend this shoe. As I bought my shoes in Australia in Aug 2009 (like Sam King), I am wondering if Merrell had a bad batch of shoes? So now I'm in the market for a new pair of shoes and reluctant to try Merrell shoes again which is a shame because I love the range.

Cool looking shoe, trusted brand, enough to convert my online purchase, but beware a flimsy in-step. Sure as pointed out in other reviews, there is arch support (from underneath). However, the entire instep side of the shoe is made of thin, flimsy suede and lacks sufficient support, resulting in a wobbly unstable step. Didn’t even bother taking them for a test walk. Exchanged them for my trusty Keen Voyageur model.
