These shoes were great for me right out of the box. I did replace the insoles with my own orthatics as I do with all my shoes. I usually take a 10 1/2 but after reading some reviews I ordered the 11's and they fit perfect so I would say order 1/2 size up. Very satisfied so ordered another pair before they get discontinued!

I love this shoe and order it over and over and over again. I take out the sole and put my orthotics in. I used to wear running shoes for arch support, but then my toes started to show signs of arthritis, so I ordered this to have toe support as well. My foot doctor said running shoes don't have much toe support. The ankle on these fits well too. I've ordered other styles of Merrell's and the ankle part is too loose. I also recommend not getting the tan color of these if you wear dark jeans because the blue will rub off onto the shoe. Jill

Fantastic sneaker! Finally found the arch support that I needed. Also, foot and back pains are starting to go away.

This is my first pair of merrell low hikers. I bought the moab edge and the moab ventilator. The ventilator was by far the best. The edge was too stiff for me. I am an 8 in dress shoes but I bought an 8.5 and am glad I did. That little extra room is great especially to wear hiking socks. The arch support is amazing. There was no break in period. I just hiked a rugged path this weekend for 2.5 hours and was sure glad I had my ventilators. They gave me good ankle support and no slipping on dirt downhill. I wore them the whole rest of the day and they did not feel heavy or clunky. I am a public artist and go to job sites often and these will be great for that use as well. I am very happy.

I got these shoes for a camping and hiking trip to Sequoia and I'm so glad I did. Love these shoes and I know they will last for years. No breaking in period necessary in my case. My feet felt protected and comfortable the whole time.

Great hiking shoe! No need to "break in" -perfect straight out of box! Although not high on ankle, these do offer some ankle support as well! Very happy with this purchase

With my wide feet, I've always had a hard time finding hiking shoes and boots. A year and a half ago, I noticed Merrell, which I've always regarded as too narrow, was making clogs in a wide width. Since then I've bought 3 pairs of their clogs, all a great success, and I thought it was time to try the hiking shoes. I'm not a big fan of heavy shoes while hiking; I tried the Ventilator for its lighter weight and, well, its ventilation. I usually wear a 6.5 or 7W, but found I had to go up to a 7.5 to give all my toes the room they needed (my feet are on the square side). To my surprise, the arch fit better, and my shoe bent in just the right place in the longer shoe as well. And the thing that really sold me: a narrow heel which keeps my foot properly in place when walking/hiking. I've only worn them once, for about a 3 mile hike, but they performed well. No hot spots, no blisters, no areas of discomfort. Since then, I've bought a pair of the Moab waterproof as well, but have not yet tried them. I got both on sale and hope that does not mean they are about to be discontinued.

I still have these hiking shoes three years later but relegated their use to casual yard work. I hard use my gear and Merrell's footwear kept up with me! Great value (I calculate cost per each day I use them)

I have been searching for a comfortable shoe for the last 2 years! I finally found it in this shoe. Comfortable beyond my wildest dreams right out of the box. Did order up a half size after reading other comments. Thanks for a great shoe!

Awesome shoe! Comfy right outta the box, and I love the color I got. Moderate arch support, but great heel cup, roomy toe box, and feels really sturdy overall. Originally I ordered bigger, since I've had some by this brand that ran small. I had to send those back to get my usual size! And this is a great price for this shoe!! Yay Zappos!

I will be using these shoes for hiking. They are very comfortable, from the first time that I put them on. They offer great arch support and the width accommodates my wide width. This is the perfect shoe for hiking and taking long walks.

I bought these for a Thanksgiving hike in the country with my daughters and granddaughter. I was able to hike 2 miles round trip, with no issues. Other than being winded and my hips hurting. But that's not your fault. Also I saw a young lady wearing the same hiking/sneakers as mine, even the same color, (granite) So was very satisfied with this purchase.

The Moab is an awesome hiking shoe. It's sturdy but not clunky and there's no breaking in required - they are super comfortable and have great arch support, which makes my high-arch feet very happy. Did I mention they look great, too? The only downside is the color: I ordered the beluga/lilac and expected them to have that great dark brown color, but it's more of a charcoal color. Other than that, no complaints here. Thank you Merrell for these great shoes, and to Zappos for great customer service.

It took me a very long time to make a decision about a new pair of work shoes. I did my homework and it paid off. I replaced my old work shoe Merrell's with these and I'm super happy with them. I'm an ER nurse and banging the pavement for 12 hr shifts. They felt great out of the box and great the entire time I wore them. It was nice to get a shoe this type of show in such a neutral color that "goes with everything."

I have plantar fasciitis and my physical therapist asked me to wear shoes like tennis shoes that have good arch support. I chose these based on reviews and also because I wanted something with more heft than regular sneakers. I went from not having walked for exercise in years to walking for 1.5 hrs on rugged trails and only started feeling pain towards the last 15 minutes. I've been wearing these every day for 2 weeks all day long and do not feel any pain at all while I am wearing them. There was no break-in time for me. I usually wear size 8 and bought size 8 in these shoes. No problems at all.

Love them. This is the second pair. I wore the soles off the others after 3 years of harsh daily use. They held up to rough trails, camping, jungle life and more. They are kinda subtle coloring/pattern wise. They are light weight but feel sturdy.

I adore these hiking shoes. I wore them on hikes 3-5 miles, straight out of the box, without any blisters or sore feet anywhere. They are very comfortable and durable. They keep my feet warm and dry on hikes. The ventilation is great. Can't say enough good things about these hikers.

Great shoes! I have small feet and generally avoid athletic shoes as they have always felt clunky and heavy. These don't at all, and yet the support is good and they feel sturdy. I've also had trouble in the past with blisters on the back of my heels because the shoes rode too high there, as if they only made the shoes shorter but did not change any of the other proportions. But even after a couple of long test walks I've had no problem with blisters in these Merrells. They fit my small feet quite well and I am confident about wearing them for a late fall hike in a few weeks.

I was afraid to buy hiking shoes because I didn't think they would be as comfortable as sneakers...these shoes are just as light and comfortable...they're awesome!

I'm 70 years and love this shoe, my second pair. I do a little hiking but use them primarily for walking. I wear a size 9 and they fit perfectly.

Second pair, I hike a lot, I have found the Merrell Moab's to be the perfect shoe for me, They cone in wide and fit very comfortable, they are breathable, great traction climbing in sand, slick rock, snow and loose gravel. They held up great, lasted 440 miles on some very rough, wet, slick and at times very muddy terrain.

This is my third pair of Moab Ventilators. I wear these shoes everywhere. I wear them walking in town on the sidewalk. When we go on vacation to the National Parks, I always wear them for hiking. They are comfy, wide enough for my foot and they have a nice size toe box. I would highly recommend them for a summer hiking shoe.
