For light hiking and normal park like terrain, these shoes would have been awesome! They did provide nice ventalation for the feet and I did not have terribly bad sweaty feet like with other hiking boots. Unfortunatly, these shoes were clearly not made for hard-core moutain hiking in very, very primitive terrain. I agree with a previous review that the soles were too thin for this type of hiking. I had massive blisters on my feet despite breaking the shoe in and wearing really good hiking socks. The shoes were just painful to walk in. Once again, I believe it was the thinness of the sole. I believe if these shoes had a thicker sole they would have been spot on. I really regretted tossing them but the terrain tore the inner-sole up too badly to be used again. The outside held up really well and after 6-8 hours of hiking for 8 days in the High Atlas Mountains, the outer lug soles looked new. I would definatly own another pair for state park hiking but definatly not for rugged hiking/climbing.

I am huge fan of the Merrell shoes and have several pairs of different styles range from sandals to loafers to mules. I was disappointed that these did not run true to size as all of my other Merrells did. The arch support was great, the width was great, the shoe felt wonderful, it was just a little short in length. My toes hit the end and at size 11, I am at the top of the size Merrell makes. Otherwise the construction and support of this shoe is fantastic.

I'd heard these shoes ran small so I ordered a half-size bigger, no mean feat when you wear a 10 to start with. My big toes are still hitting the end of the shoe so these are going back and I hope to find a gigantic size 11 that will fit.

Merrill seems to be following a trend where, to make a reasonably priced shoe, quality is compromised. I have found this to be true with several styles. I have a pair of Merrill hikers that are 10 years old. The exterior is beat up however, the insole is still far more supportive than the Moab Ventilator. If you are looking for a shoe with good support, look elsewhere or consider purchasing an insole. I use Superfeet but will not make the investment for this model.

I wanted so much to love these shoes, but unfortunately, they just weren't comfortable to me. The cushion felt flat and the arches seemed off. I have several pairs of Merrell's and have typically been very happy with their products. Unfortunately, this pair didn't make the cut and are getting shipped back.

Loved the look & tread & arch in this shoe but for some reason the right shoe did not fit correctly. Ran true to size & width but the heel felt off on the right shoe.

I have really high arches and unlike my other Merrells, these just didn't have enough support. A good part of the middle of my foot wasn't touching anything and that makes for very sore feet at the end of the day. Zappos makes returns so easy.

After ordering and rejecting 12 other brands and styles, these were the winners for my European vacation. The Toes seemed roomy, breathable mesh for hot days seemed a plus. There is also good shock absorption. However, there is some weird non-quite-right arch support that hits below my actual arch (toward my heel) that hurt me so badly they did not come out of my suitcase again.

I love the look of these shoes and they seem really sturdy. Unfortunately, they have too much arch support for my feet. Felt like a hard (but smooth!) rock nestled in my arch so that part was very uncomfortable though everything else seemed great.

Unfortunately I had to return these shoes because they didn't feel good on me. The tongue is too long and thick and irritates the corner between my leg and the top of my foot when I walk. No way would I be able to hike long distances with that sort of irritation. Also, the shoes are very stiff.

I had high hopes for these shoes, given the excellent reviews and higher than I normally spend on walking shoes price. I am not a returning type of consumer, mostly because I like to wear them for a few days to get a true feel for my shoes. They are okay - but I do not love them. They feel a little heavier than my last pair of shoes (Skechers). There is zero arch support. With a name like "Ventilators," I expected them to be nice and cool. Nope. My feet get very hot in them. They will be horrible hiking at scout camp this summer, which is the whole reason that I bought them. The shoelaces will not stay tied unless double-knotted. Oh, and most of the reviews said to go up half a size, especially since I usually have wider feet (I normally wear size 8W, I ordered 8½M). That was a bad move. These things are like boats on my feet. There is too much room in there. On the plus side, they look nice and seem grippy. But they make my feet hurt. I am pretty disappointed.

Merrell runs about a half size small. The arch support also hits my foot too far back instead of in the middle. Great look and well constructed but had to send them back after walking around my house for 5 minutes. Too bad.

I returned these because there was no arch support. I don't understand all the reviews that say there is arch support. When I tried them on, I couldn't feel anything touching my arch, which means there is no support.

Very comfortable if you are able to have the right fit. I normally wear 8-8.5 for sneakers and ordered these also in these two sizes (shoe size is 7.5). The 8 was too small (my toes hit the front of the shoe) and the 8.5 too large. I would have kept the 8.5 but the tongue was too bulky and was rubbing the front of my leg. Returned. Still in search of a good hiking shoe.

I am bummed! I purchased these to use on the Appalachian Trail in 2015 so wanted to break them in during my training. First day just walking on streets (live in New Orleans) I had worn Therlo hiking socks used to prevent blisters. They felt a bit tight even with an extra half size (your feet swell during a thru-hike like the Appalachian Trail) so I was wearing winter socks to take up the extra space. I did not get a blister this day. I put them on today using a summer sock of lighter weight so they would not be snug and walked up several times the ramps of our four story garage in the apartment complex. I had to stop I got a blister on both feet on the inner heel area. My husband checked it out (he also got a pair) and found the inserts at the bottom of the shoe were improperly installed causing a point which did the rubbing. Glad I found this before the hike. I have Superfeet insoles ordered to see if I can salvage this pair of shoes. Zappos sent the order right off so good customer service but not next day delivery like some people's reviews lead me to believe. I also cannot just return them as we lack a post office in our area. Maybe I should have went local for the first pair - so that is my fault.

Wow, didn't even need to stand up and lace before it was obvious that it was way too small! I'm a 10.5 and some brands require me to even go up to an 11. But even these 11s were still much too short. Shocked most people reported them as fitting true to size.

I wanted to love this trail shoe. Unfortunately, it wasn't comfortable at all. Felt "stiff" and heavy when I walked around the house. Perhaps Merrell isn't my brand. Will keep looking. Zappos has a great selection of shoes! I'm sure I'll find something. Gotta shop...

I'm not difficult to fit & not hard to please when it comes to shoes, but I have to say, other than with dressy hi-heels, I have never had a shoe experience like this before. I bought these Merrell Moab Ventilators based on the many positive reviews I had read. I regret to say, I have not had a good experience with these shoes. As suggested, I wore them indoors for the first few days to make sure they were going to be okay for the long haul. They, as per usual, felt "new," so I was expecting a typical 'adaptation' period. They were so wonderfully light weight! Felt like almost nothing on my feet. I do love that about them! And they look good, too. Wearing them around the house in no way began to prepare me for a day of running errands around town. I soon became aware that my feet felt as if they were cradled in a hard concrete-like insole & my feet slid forward in the shoe, as I walked at a faster, steady pace than when wearing them around inside my home. I tried adjusting the laces in an effort to reposition my feet & better secure the shoe, but without success. My foot continued to slide deeper, pushing my toes far too deep into the toe box - this is very uncomfortable & I had not brought along another pair of shoes to change into, just in case, as they had not shown any indication of "discomfort" during the few days I wore them inside my home. Initially, I thought, "These shoes are at least a half size too small/short." But then, I thought it might be the heel height of the shoe - though it isn't visibly obvious. My feet hurt so bad after that first day of 'real world wear', I had to soak them in warm epsom salts foot bath when I got home, & they were still sore the next day. So I thought, "Maybe a better pair of insoles will 'fix' this problem." So, I bought a pair of insoles for "Hard Working Feet," and that did help with the "hard as concrete insole" effect, but not with the toes being smushed down into the toe box. These are very stabilizing shoes & I love that my hip & knee do not hurt when I wore them. But I think I'm going to have to find someone who wears a smaller size to pass these size 9's on to. They will get the good insoles as well. Did I get a "Lemon" in this purchase? I don't know. However, if buy another pair of these, I will buy from a local shoe store. Today, I'm thinking 'not'.

I hate to be one of the few to give these shoes a bad rating, but I had to return them. They were so stiff, it felt like I was strapping boards to my feet. As well, the insoles were not cut properly so that curved up the side of the shoe poking the side of my foot. Also, because of this, the insole had a pinch or bump. Basically, the insole did not fit inside the shoe. It's too bad b/c they are quite cute.

I have always had good luck with Merrells right out of the box. This particular style was an exception. My toes were cramped and hit the front of the shoe. Very uncomfortable for those reasons. The shoe may have worked in a larger size but I wasn't willing to go that route as I needed them for a planned event.

I have purchased several pairs of Merrells for walking, but these were a complete waste of money! After two months I was still getting blisters on my ankles and heels; even after trying a couple of different inserts to increase comfort. I finally bought a different brand of walking shoes from Zappos.

I really like the style of this shoe so I was bummed by the very strange fit. While the toe box was perfect for me, the heel is very narrow and stiff at the bottom and sides as is the outside of the shoe by the small toe. Feels like it would promote pain and blisters instantly. I heard, after I purchased them, that this shoe is best for people whose feet tend to pronate towards each other. I chose La Sprtiva Wildcats instead and am super happy with them.

Too bad I followed the advice of reviewers to order half a size up! I normally wear a 8 and I have a fairly wide foot. I have tried the Siren Sport by Merrell in size 8 and it was really narrow. So I ordered this one in 8.5 and it is huge! I will try a size 8, it will probably work. I like the style, they are light.

I had another model of Merrells which I love, but no longer available. This model looked very similar so I ordered size 8 (which fit perfectly in the original pair). When I tried the new pair on, my toe was at the end of the shoe, so I exchanged for an 8.5 size. Alas, these also too small, but the toe end looks wide and big so I don't think I want to go for a size 9 (have never worn other than size 8). So, back to square one. Wish I could find Merrell 'Continuum' still...they were perfect! Thank you, Zappos, for making exchanges and returns so easy.
