The Merrell Moab Ventilator is very comfortable. I ordered my usual size 9M and it fits great in length and width, plenty of toe room. Great arch support. I like the appearance of the shoe except for one thing: the sides of the heel area are huge with padding! It looked like I was wearing doughnuts around the shoe openings. I think this would be fine if you were only wearing them to hike, but to be seen in public wearing them would be pretty funny. I love Merrell shoes, but these need a little paring down.

Too bulky, for my purposes of everyday use, while teaching. This sturdy shoe would be more useful for trail hiking or working in a factory.

A nice looking shoe, but I found a strange bump under the ball of my foot that was uncomfortable. It seems that my natural arch and the arch of the shoe don't match, so I returned

From years of yoga, and being encouraged to spread our toes in class, my toe box has become wider, even though my heels are narrow. I am disappointed that these were noticeably veering in at the toe area, so it was pressing against my toe. Have to return. I know that merrells have become more narrow, so I may not be able to were them any longer. I have a pair of the older sirens, and their width was ok for my feet. I don't think the new ones have as much space in the toe area unfortunately. Now I am back to the never ending search for a trail shoe that will fit my foot.

I normally love Merrell, but the Moab Ventilator was too narrow in the toe box for me. I have never had issues with shoes being too narrow before, nor do I consider myself as having wide feet, so it was a surprise to me. I have considered ordering a size up, but I had plenty of toe space in the size that I ordered. It seems like it would be a great hiking shoe otherwise.

These shoes were super stiff and not comfortable. I read all the reviews before buying and frankly I cannot imagine walking in these without wearing them in A LOT. I returned them.

Beautiful shoe, loved the colors, but the 10.5 was tight, and I needed an 11 to fit. I was really looking for a cushiony footbed, but I could literally feel the cleats on the sole through the shoe. They did not make me want to get up and take a walk, I guess. Probably for a younger, fitter wearer, these would be great. Not great for me. They went back.

Smoke is a good name for this color of the Moab Ventilator. It looks a bit brighter in the photo. They are drab looking. I considered sending them back for another color. I absolutely loved my Siren Ventilators. These do not look, or feel nearly as great as those did. That said, being an older gal, I need great support & a wider toe bed in a normal width. These definitely make walking more comfortable on my foot, even though they do feel a bit hard & oddly built in some areas, they do the job of making my walking painfree. I just hope I can get over how they look.

Loyal Merrell wearer, but likely sending these back. I wear some version of a slip-on Merrell moc every day, but I wanted something more ventilated for a hot summer vacation so I tried these. After wearing them only in the house for a total of two hours over two days, I decided they have to go back. Size -- I regularly wear a 7, so I ordered a 7, and it's true to size - no problem at all. The toe box is a little wider than usual, but it's comfortable. Not sure why people say they run small. It's my regular Merrell size. Comfort -- These are definitely more padded than other shoes I have but the laces are very unforgiving. The laces are textured and the tight fabric loops that hold the laces are very snug. This means once you lace it up, the laces will absolutely not move. Some people might consider this a feature, but for me it was very hard to get the laces adjusted so I didn't end up with it too tight somewhere. Not worth the time and effort to keep readjusting and were just uncomfortable no matter what I did. Plus the laces are so long that when I tie them up there are still giant pieces hanging off the shoes. Style -- These are good looking shoes but they make my feet look like short stubby little paddles. The laces go pretty far down on the toe, plus the laces are never meant to pull together in the middle. The end result is with a size 7 I'm all laces and no shoe. It looks dorky.

I have worn Moabs for about six years now. This time is the last. They used to hold up really well, getting over a year out of them. By the time I would reach the end of the year I would wear through the cushioning around the heel (I have thin feet). This was wearing them every day and hiking often. This year, I ordered some in March, in less than six weeks, I wore all the way through the cushioning in the heel. Zappos was great and sent me a new pair late April. It is now mid July and there is a huge hole in the cushioning again. I have to believe that Merrell changed something because the many previous pairs that I have worn never had this problem. Unfortunately, I will not be ordering Merrells when I replace these again.

These shoes were great when I received them. I loved them. They were comfortable and stylish. I got my wife a ladies pair and she loves them. After about 6 months my left shoe started to squeak and I could not get it to stop. Tried everything but WD40 and now I can't wear them because the squeak is so loud you can hear me coming a block away. it's a shame and I'm very disappointed.

This shoe was very flat to me. I couldn't feel any arch support. Also wide in the heel for my med. width foot. In shoes I wear a 10 and 101/2 in sneakers but this was still too long. I wish the new Mary Jane with the slanted strap came with Q-form. Why are there so few Merrell shoes with Q-form these days? When I first found Merrell shoes the Q-form really helped my knees.

As a long time Merrell wearer, I am mystified why these shoes do not fit. I first ordered my regular size - way too small. In fact they were an entire inch shorter than my Merrell hiking shoes of the same size - I placed them together sole to sole. I know that hiking shoes need space for toes going downhill but the difference was an entire inch (size 8½). I then ordered the 9 thinking it would be the answer. I wore them around the house and my feet actually hurt. I am truly mystified. They have to go back. (Is there such a thing as lemons here?) I am still happy with my Merrell Siren sports.

I wish I had sent these back. They are really beautiful hiking shoes, but the fit is uneven. The toe-box is built in the "barefoot" style with no cushion or support, but the arch and heel have a stiff cushion along the inner arch & heel which is built into the shoe and cannot be removed. I would prefer either a total barefoot style that I can add my own orthotics to, or else a fully supported or cushioned foot bed. As it stands, if I replace the foot bed that the shoe comes with, I have decent padding at the toe, but excessive padding in the inner arch and heel. I will have to cut one of my orthotics to fit around the built-in padding which means I won't be able to reuse it in other shoes. Bummer. Also, since there is no inner contour to the foot bed, my foot keeps slipping forward until my toes hit the front of the shoe, not ideal when hiking. I bought a larger size to combat this issue, but it still happens occasionally.

I really like the way these shoes fit. However, I've worn them three times on a paved walking trail, and they already have superficial tears in the stitching above the laces. I definitely paid too much for that kind of quality. I'm hoping the rest of the shoe holds up better, but I can't wear them in a lot of situations now that they look "torn up."

I have worn this style for years, but something has changed in the quality/fit I still wear my old Moab and they are sturdier, longer shoe laces, and fit is just a little roomier than these. Sorry to see this as Merrell shoes have been a standard for me for many years.

Oh Merrell, why oh why did you mess with a good thing? These were to be my second beloved pair of hiking shoes. My first was just like these, purchased one year ago. I've worn them through, I love them so much. This new incarnation is a sorry second to the first pair. I am an 8.5/9 so I buy 9.5 in Merrell. These came with some new fangled insole that made my heel go numb and pushed my feet to the front of the shoe making it feel a half size too small. Sadly, I didn't want to believe that they weren't as good as the first pair and wore them hiking, determined to love them. Oh, cruel shoes that made everything below my knees sorry. I sent them off to my sister who's foot is an entire size smaller than mine. She is in heaven, loves them, thinks they are great. Buyer beware...it will be a love or a hate encounter with these shoes!

These shoes ran at least a full size too small, which seems to be the situation with most Merrell shoes. Also, I agree with another reviewer that pointed out the weird way the sole wraps around the sides of the shoe. It put pressure on the sides my arches that caused numbness and tingling. Perhaps if they were available in a wide width that wouldn't be a problem. Merrell shoes seem geared towards narrow feet. :)

I really wanted to love these. I purchased the taupe color, and I like the way they look. I also purchased a full size up since these were for hiking, and I wear the thicker hiking socks. I've worn them on 2 hikes. They're perfect on flat trails and going uphill - extremely comfortable. Coming downhill, however, these shoes were so painful on my big toes, I felt like they were being smashed inside the shoes. I guess it's due to the construction of the front of the shoes, but it's much too hard a surface for my toes to endure. I will only be wearing these on hikes where I know all the trails are flat, which is disappointing, because I like to hike mountain trails. I won't be purchasing Merrell hiking shoes again.

Never thought I would return a pair of Merrells. Didn't fit well or feel right, and not great looking either. Returned them and just got some Keens which I love.

I ordered these to replace a pair of Ecco light hikers. Since other reviews said they run small, I ordered both 10 and 10.5 - not necessary, the 10s fit fine. But the shoe feels cheap and uncomfortable. Returned both.

Nice shoe overall, but with less lateral support than I'd hoped. Same goes for the mid-height version; I'd ordered them to replace my old Montrails, and they don't do that, either in fit (loose at ankle, not roomy in ball of foot) or in step trajectory (the line of travel of each step from back to front of foot).

I found this shoe to be moderately comfortable. The sides of it do hug your foot on the sides of it in a bit of a peculiar way. I ordered an 8.5 and, for that reason, had to exchange for a 9. It's a cute shoe, but not as comfortable as I'd hoped for. I didn't want to tear them off at the end of the day, but neither did I want to leave them on any longer than necessary.

Looks great. Fits well - I wear a 10 wide in dress shoes but an 11 in sports/hiking shoes. I got the 11 and it fit great with plenty of toe box room for my bunions. It seem like after hiking in these for about 30 minutes my legs and hips start to ache. It is not a sharp pain but I'm just uncomfortable. These shoes have the special QForm Comfort midsole that is supposed to be specifically for a women's stride. I do have kind of a boyish figure, so maybe this just does not work for me. I am going back to New Balance.

After reading the reviews I thought these would fit my wide foot but alas, they are very tight. If you have a wide foot, these shoes are not for you. Love the style and color though.
