I love these boots. I already had the Winthrop clogs, which I wear constantly in the cold (for California) weather, so these are like an extension of those. I am a 7 or 7.5 in Keen, depending on style. These I got in 7.5 and wear them with medium weight socks and Dr. Scholl's Tri-Comfort orthotics. I am narrow at the heel, but somewhat wide at the top with small bunions, and this style fits me well. They look good with skirts, and you can tuck skinny jeans into them, too. I don't mind that they don't come all the way up the calf. That way you can wear knee socks that peek out the top.

These boots are hip, city style. Comfy for walking. Great with jeans, skirts or dresses. My new favorite boots!

Love the boots! They were a bit tight at first, but they stretched a bit. Keeps my feet super cozy and warm, but I can still wear with skirts, too. Hope to get another style of Keen boots soon.

Keens keep my crabby feet happy -- I think I will get many years of good use from these very comfy boots!\r\n\r\nPositives: The oiled leather on these is exceptionally rich and supple, and the wool lining is cozy but not itchy. I love the shaft height -- these go up a little higher than most "middy" boots. (I was worried that these might be tight on my calves, but they are very comfortable for this size-12 lady!)\r\n\r\nI usually wear a 9, but am happy I sized up to a 9-1/2. Arch support is very good, removable insoles are nice, and my orthotics fit in with no problem. The outer sole is nice and thick with a good rugged tread.\r\n\r\nCons: The style is definitely "rugged," as is typical of Keens. Good with jeans & pants, not-so-good with a skirt. But I bought these as a nice-looking snow boot, and who wears a skirt in a blizzard?

I love these boots. I wear a size 10 and found the calf to be just fine (I measured my calf, and where they hit me I am 13 inches around)! There is even enough room to tuck my jeans in. Wore them in the rain and my feet stayed warm and dry. I think they will work wonders in the snow too!

Great boots. I am wearing them right now. They go great with jeans or dresses. Very comfortable and warm and true to size. The foot bed is roomy so you can wear thicker socks with them. I like that they can be cinched up in the back with the drawstring for a tighter fit around the calf.

Service was great; it always is. Person I spoke to was very friendly and helpful and had been to New Zealand!

They look and feel great. My size is right between 7 and 6.5, and while I thought the larger would be better for thick winter socks, it\'s the smaller that fits better. Can\'t wait for some wintry weather to wear these in!

Keen Winthrop boot in black is all leather shaft on the outside, wool lined on the inside. I have wide, flat, over pronate feet (always feet/shoe issues) and have to be picky. I own several Keen shoes. The fit on these boots is like the Bronx or Keen Newport sandals. Where toe box is wide, soles flare out on outer and inner side to help if you over pronate. Very comfortable for me on the width, may be too wide for narrow feet, normal width would definitely be able to wear thicker boot socks if you wanted to, but they are not necessary. They were comfortable out of the box. Now the calves, well, they are a bit tight, not restricting but certainly cannot tuck pants in and kind of tight in that a ring would be left on my leg after wearing. Otherwise they would have been great funky looking casual boots to wear with jeans or with skirt. When you have wide feet and shoes are comfy when you first put them on then you know these are good for the long run. Too bad my calves are a bit too big otherwise these would have been keepers. The zipper did stay up with them partially zipped. Don't know what the elastic bands on the shaft in the back are for. Certainly would be hard to use these to further adjust leather shaft for tighter fit. They did give the boot a good look, though.

Love the look of this boot. Haven't worn it yet, but the fit is great. Most boots are too big in the calf area and this one fits perfect, even at a size 8.5. Looks like it is made well.

Coming from California, I wasn't sure what boots to buy. I read reviews for many boots. I was cautious about purchasing because of all the warnings about the narrow shaft not fitting muscular calves. I am a petite 5'4", size 6.5 feet, and have well-developed calves. However, when the boots arrived, they fit with no problems! They zipped easily, had toe wriggle room and felt super comfortable. I could even squeeze a pair of jeans into them and thick socks. The boots fit true to size. Super comfy and seem really well made. While they may not be the most stylish boots to wear with a cute winter skirt, they're pretty great compared to some of the bulky ugliness I've seen out there!

There’s definitely a difference in fit between the two styles. The leather/boiled wool boot runs about 1/2 size larger while black leather is a truer fit. (I have both the cordovan with boiled wool and the black leather.) What you like might depend on how much wiggle room you like for your toes. The Winthrop footbed is identical to Briggs, my favorite Keen model.
