I initially considered this style of boot as well as the desert boot style, but it was the comfort of the former that won the day (having tried them both on in stores). Personally I see no need for an added insole, as the one built in is plenty supportive and comfortable. I ordered a half-size down and the fit was perfect. The style has a hardy appeal of classy yet rugged. It pairs well with jeans and chinos and anything from a t-shirt to a button-down or sweater (I have even worn it with a sport coat). The only complaint on style is that it appears mildly boxy in the toe region. Finally, it insulates well, and in colder weather (i.e., 40s) with normal to thick socks my feet have been cozy. Well recommended!

Very nice boot. Perfect for my needs. I need a boot that looks nice for work, but is still equipped for some 'tromping'. Nothing too heavy duty though. I was looking for strong, supple, stylish comfort, and this fits the bill. This was my first experience buying any type of footwear online, and I couldn't be happier. The price was right, delivery was quick, and the boots are comfortable. I read several reviews stating that these ran a little large. I was hesitant to heed that advice as I am usually always a true 11, but I'm glad that I did. I ordered a 10.5 and they fit perfectly. I definitely recommend this boot.

I've other brands in this style of boot, even the originals, and none have ever worked for me. They were always tight in the toe box and so loose on the heel that I would have had blisters in an hour. So, when I saw the wide toe box on the Hemlock, I wanted to try it out. I am so glad I did! Finally, room for my forefoot! In thinner socks, the heel slips a bit, but with big chunky Smartwool socks, the boot fits beautifully! Huzzah! Thick socks work well for me with these because I live in a mountain town with fairly cold winters. These boots do not have insulation, so be aware of that. They are incredibly comfortable right away. The look is really attractive - hip, casually stylish with just a tiny hint of working cowboy to the look (in a really good way) when worn with jeans. I ordered a half size smaller than usual, which was just right for me (when wearing chunky socks).

Bought these for my husband who is super fussy. As soon as he put these on he loved them. They are super comfortable and very good looking with jeans or khaki's. The pull on tab is study and strong. He loves the distressed look at the toe.

Just got these boots and they are great! Very stylish, yet can be worn casual as well. As the other reviews said, they do run large. I usually wear a 10.5 and purchased a 10. They fit perfect. Love these boots!

Easy to break in. Comfortable. Easy on off for airports. Can dress up or dress down easily. This is my 2nd pair. I will own a pair as long as they keep making them. Order .5-1 size smaller than normal because the leather will stretch as the boot gets broken in.

These boots look nicer in person. That shiny, distressed area you see over the toes is not as shiny or pronounced on the ones that I received and I'm happy about that. I have good luck with Born shoes so I thought I'd try the boots. They feel great and are comfortable. I can't speak for how long they will last because I've only worn them for a month. But I'm sure they'll get me through the winter and then some.

LOVE these boots. Snug as a glove, feel great. I have Parkinson's and need ankle support to help with keeping my balance; these shoes meet that need. They can be a little difficult to get my feet into, but that shouldn't be an issue for guys who are able to hold their feet still. I followed the advice of another shopper and ordered one half size smaller than I would normally buy. This was a good and accurate suggestion.

Extremely comfortable, and didn't really require a breaking in period. I walked over 3 miles in them last night (3rd time I've worn them), and they and my feet feel great.

These are great boots no surprise from Born. They feel and look great. If you do have wide feet consider wearing dress socks (I do and have no problems with the width.) I would recommend these over the Mac Chelsea boot as they are more modern looking and less cowboy-ish.

Great boots! I bought these for my husband and he adores them. They can be worn for a slightly dressy casual look or for a super casual look. My husband says they are really comfortable too.

I absolutely love these boots. This is the most comfortable pair of non-athletic shoes that I own. I bought these as my travel boots but they are so comfortable, they have become my everyday shoes.

These boots are super lightweight, stylish, and comfy. They have an already broken in look and feel. Unfortunately when ordering my usual size, they ran about a half size, maybe even a full size too big. Returning for a half size smaller and hope they fit as I'm sold on the style, comfort, and quality of these Born boots.

My favorite pair of casual boots I have owned. Look good with everything. Buy a size down. This is my second pair and will probably buy another if they are still available in the future.

My husband, who has a very hard time finding shoes he likes the look of and finds comfortable, loves these. Stylish, lightweight, and easy to wear!

My husband's favorite boots! I thought these were identical to his last pair, but the toe box is different. But that isn't bad. He's convinced these are the only boots he needs now.

I like these boots, but as I've worn them, they seem to have gotten larger. I wear larger socks than when I first wore them 2 wks ago. Also, the shape of the boot is clunkier than it appears in the picture. Not bad, but not quite as narrow a toe bed as I expected. I might try another brand next time.

We all have experienced how footwear sizes vary by shoe. My measured size is 11.5. A 11 in this shoe fits me better. Width is another footwear dimension that has to be experienced before you know. I have a narrow foot. Love the narrow fit of this shoe. Other than that, I've only had them for a week and worn them once. I think they will work out great, but we'll see.

Overall a nice looking boot—the distressed gray goes with essentially any color. However, I was trying to replace a pair of dark brown Born boots I’ve had for several years but they just don’t make them like they used to. My old pair was water-resistant enough for New England winters and rain but these new gray ones had different stitching that looked prone to water leaks (see Amazon review: https://www.amazon.com/Born-H32626-Mens-Hemlock/dp/B005NWZ6MM) so I ended up returning them. If you are looking for a nice looking gray boot that isn’t weather proof, these may be a winner.

I wound up returning these - great boots, I got them in a W10/M8 because Born isn't doing a square toe Chelsea for women right now. Totally dig the boots but they felt weirdly narrow to me and the toe box seemed extra flat - like the roof of the toe box felt like it sloped down extra intensely and my toes felt like they were being pressed against the sole. Maybe going up a half size would have helped in the toe, but I think the length might have been too big then.

Kind of a flexible, unsupportive base for how big they are otherwise, and the leather scuffs very easily. But the style is what I wanted and they're comfortable for short walks and look good with jeans or khakis.

I typically wear 11 in this boot, but this leather I had to go up a .5 size to get the right fit. I am hoping it will give over time.
