An athletic shoe I can wear -
I have difficult to fit feet. Both are wide in front and my right foot seems thick in front, my heels are narrow, and I have a high arch. Past shoes have always felt tight in front and crimped-in my right little toe. I am glad I tried out the 1123 with the new last (SC-2?). My left foot fits great and my right, while still a little tight, is also good. I could probably have gone with a 10.5 rather than the 11. The sizes were better than I expected. Strangely, I have an old pair of Florsheim wingtips that have fit well for 25 years. Would like to see NB build a hiking shoe like this. The info on the Zappos and the NB sites was extremely useful.

Not bad -
This is the last shoe that I am buying because it is 'made in the USA'. It used to be that made in the USA (or assembled here) meant that quality was better. I get a feeling that this is no longer the case. I am keeping this pair because it does look different from what is on the market, but in a way I do regret getting it. Just in case you want to know, my last New Balance shoe was model 2001, and I currently own a Mizuno and one more NB1350.
About the shoe: a little higher that average at ankle, so if you have to jump around in the gym (BOSU exercises for one), you should get something else. Not much of a shoe for running. I think New Balance has other shoes better than this one for that. Once again, the main reason I got this shoe was for its looks.
The shoe is light. Reasonably comfortable, but not for too long a walk, as the heel is set a bit lower than usual.
What else can you say about tennis shoes? They are all so similar.... you can seldom go really wrong.
Summary: get this one if you wanna stand out.

NEW AND IMPROVED -
Yes, the MR1123 looks much better than its predecessor, which is one of the ugliest shoes I've ever had to wear, but it still has a way to go. In any case, this is one of the few pairs of shoes I can wear due to foot problems that podiatrists tell me can't be fixed and so must be managed. Get a half-size smaller than usual.

This is a great looking shoe! I believe it was designed for over-pronators though. The heel is not designed flat but rises up slightly on the outside of the foot. I\'m a supinator and I usually buy new shoes when the outside heels wear down to where this shoe is at new. Unfortunately I\'ve worn them too long to take back and I\'ll have to wear them as non-running shoes.

Upon reading fellow reviewers say how supportive this shoe is I took a plunge and bought the shoe. It does have great cushion and does not allow me to pronate which I have always had a problem with. However, I did not feel any actual arch support in this shoe. I did some research and found that if you have flat feet this shoe is awesome but if you need arch support they are just plain bad. My feet get tired because there is no support in this shoe at all whatsoever. If you like arch, New Balance is the wrong brand stick to Brooks, Asics or Saucony.

New Balance MR1123 review -
The shoe is ok but my expectation was for a performance walking shoe with the same comfort & fit as the 998(?) running shoe and it just does not meet that level.

I have worn many pairs of different styles of New Balance shoes. I really like them because of the 6E width. I ordered a pair of the 1123's last winter as I saw them in a big mans catalog. I always get a 12--6E and they fit nicely. I ordered the 1123 for summer. I had them for probably 4 months when the snow left I got them out and to my dismay the 1123 were at least a size bigger than the other New Balance (853) I wear in the winter. Of course after having them for so long the supplier would not take them back. I wonder if they were miss marked? I'll will order another pair from Zappos, as they will return them. Other than the fit, the shoes are great.

Size runs longer and wider than labeled. Blue dyed insert at bottom of laces runs onto white part of shoe, staining the white mesh. Rubber in sole developed smell of cat urine after single machine washing. Zappos refused to do anything about it; refused to look at shoes, refused a pro-rated refund, because my request was three weeks after the one-year return policy. The shoes wear okay, but not great. Wore them for walking only during warmer months, not at all in winter. I always use the fifty-dollar inserts, so no comment on arch support is possible. Klutzy looking.

I am a big man - 6'3", 220 lbs with a 13EE foot - who wears orthotics. I've had a lot of trouble finding a shoe for exercise walking that is both comfortable and supportive. This shoe is neither. For years, I have worn the Brooks Beast, but on a whim decided to switch to this shoe because I liked its appearance. BIG mistake. So much for vanity. The shoe runs larger in every respect than advertised; longer, wider and more voluminous even with the orthotic. It is huge in comparison to the Brooks Beast and the Saucony CS Stabil. I feel as if I were wearing pontoons. In a word the shoe is "clunky." The fore foot cushioning is not as good as the Beast and my admittedly narrow heel slips badly in comparison to the Saucony. Having given it the old college try for a month, it is now in the good hands of the local donation center.

New Balance's MR1123 -
I was disappointed with this shoe. After reading all the wonderful reviews I decided to try it. What a letdown! Maybe it's not the shoe for me, but for the price I expected more. The shoe has ample room everywhere, and that may be my biggest complaint. The toe box is wonderful, but the body of the shoe is huge also. In NB shoes, I need a 4E width, in this shoe my foot swam in the 4E, which provided me with no lateral support. I found little, if no arch support, which is another issue with this shoe. The shoe itself is large and clunky. I was quite surprised because I have a large foot, and this shoe served none of my needs. I'm tired of it being so "hit and miss" with the NB line, that this will be my last pair. Asics and Brooks provide a more comfortable selection of shoes in 4E widths, that function as promised, for less than the price of this shoe. Unfortunately, these shoes were worn outside, otherwise they would have been returned, because Zappos stands for customer satisfaction. That I'm sure of!!!!!!

New Balance 1123 -
The shoe does not really meet my expectations. It is heavier than I expected and has a wider sole contour in the mid foot, which makes the shoe look strange. It also does not fit perfectly in the same size compared with my prior use of the New Balance 1222.

This shoe is a very poor replacement for the prior version, the 1122. I ran the 2008 New York Marathon in the 1122s without any problem, but I cannot run 3 miles in the 1123s without arch pain. In fact, I can't WALK in these shoes for an hour and feel comfortable. The 1122 was THE shoe for the heavy runner with overpronation problems. The 1123 just doesn't work for me at all. I bought 8 pairs of the 1122s as a result. And, as if the weakness of the shoe isn't bad enough, NB has the nerve to raise price. Try the Brooks Beast until they redesign this shoe based on the 1122.

Disappointment -
Fit is pretty good for my extremely narrow male foot, as with all narrow NBs. Shoe runs very poorly with awful foot motion. It's like running in my hiking boots, which I've done and don't recommend.

$140 dollar disaster -
Worst running shoe I ever bought -- especially for the money. The shoes "bit" the sides of both of my feet; they didn't feel very substantial or supportive. My left hip and knee began to hurt just a couple of weeks after wearing the shoes. New Balance should've stayed with the older version of this shoe; instead, they just had to change it.
