Breaking these boots in was brutal! But after about 10 wears, the leather finally gave. And now, these are my new favorite shoes. I'm 5'10 and they hit right at the bottom of my knee. My problem with riding boots in the past was that they make my size 11 foot look like a size 15. The way the shaft rises on these prevents that. I try to wear these boots with everything, and now I'm buying clothes just for them! I will say the arch support sucks. Well actually, there is no arch support. With as much as I wear them, I'll have to buy supports this weekend. Hopefully my size will be available if these go on sale. I'll be purchasing another color.

These boots are super classy!! I have 15" calves and they slipped right on with ease with plenty of room for jeans. If you are thin they may be too roomy for you. Unfortunately for me the shaft is very tall and I could not sit down in them so I sadly have to send them back. The look is English riding style so they are dressier than most Frye riding boots but could be dressed up or down. If only my calves were 1.5" taller, they would be perfect.

This boot is beautiful. I would say it runs true to size. Pay attention to the shaft height. I am average 5'6 and the shaft is about 2" too high for me. I am returning theses to try the Melissa Button.

Love these boots. I'm about 6'1" and have always struggled with finding boots that looked proportionate to my long legs in addition to having a wide enough circumference that it didn't look like the boots were squeezing my legs. These boots are perfect. When I first put them on, they did feel slightly tight around the toes but I knew the leather would stretch to a perfect fit, which it did. The heel does slip, but they're made this way for easy on and off, and I honestly don't notice it anymore when walking. Perfect for tucking in jeans and still having a little bit of a gap at the top (and I don't have stick legs) and they come up right under my knees. I'm not sure how well these will work for shorter, more petite gals depending on the look you're going for.

Addendum to my post from last year. I ended up returning these for a 1/2 size larger. I'm glad I did! I wore them all winter with an added thin insole and medium sock and they are perfect. They are rich looking and comfortable. I have the cognac which matches everything. I do wish they had a lug sole but otherwise I love the.

These boots are absolutely gorgeous but come too high up on my knee - wouldn't be comfortable wearing them.

These boots are beautiful, but they definitely feel a half size smaller than my Lindsay plates (which I received just a a few days ago) and other typical size-8 shoes. They fit like a 7.5 and are extremely tight in the toes. Because the sole is stiff, this will definitely make the boots rather uncomfortable the first few times that I wear them, and I'm not looking forward to breaking them in! Aside from the sizing issue, I'm over the moon with the boots. The leather is soft and gorgeous and they look incredible on my legs (I'm 5'7" and of average build; the boots fit my calves wonderfully and hit right below my knee).

I love Frye! For anyone who has never worn a true boot, they take time to mold and "break in," but be patient and they will be amazing boots for a very long time. I first spotted the Dorado on Robin in How I Met Your Mother and decided then that I needed this sand suede knee high! I typically wear an 8, but in some Frye styles (especially any variation of the Veronica: slouch, shortie, combat) I always need a half size up. But in styles like the Paige and Melissa I can wear an 8. I first tried these in an 8 and the toe was just too tight. I sized up to an 8.5 and they are perfect. A little slipping on the heel the first couple of hours I wore them the first day, but that quickly went away. They still need to be broken in well so they're more comfortable in the toe area, but after being in them 12 hours yesterday (almost entirely on my feet), I am definitely happy with them!

I had been waiting for these boots to go on sale for years! They are so amazing and will never go out of style. I ordered the sale color (a dark grey) - even though I really wanted the classic black. After looking at them a few weeks - I've decided to hold off until I can muster up the full cost to get them in black! They are a little snug in width - but I am sure that in time they will stretch. If you are on the fence - do it! They are gorgeous, well made, and hit me just below my knee (I am 5'6 and have athletic calves and still have room for skinny jeans tucked in). Gorgeous - just not the right color for me.

After reading the reviews - I decided to order my true size (9.5). Way too tight in the toe! I absolutely loved the leather and had been admiring these for over a year...I hope a 10 comes back in the color I love!

Frye Dorado boots are my absolute favorite ever! They are beautifully constructed, the leather is incredible quality and the colors are rich and unique. The heel is the perfect height and the leather sole wears forever. These are boots you will bring to the cobbler for repair - they are not one season throw away boots. I have 8 pairs of Dorado boots in different colors. The red is my favorite of all. Caution to the small girls out there...these boots are tall. I am 5'10" and the shaft goes to just below my knee. They are also narrow in the toe. I have a boot stretcher and use leather spray inside the boots with the stretcher for several days before wearing them. The heels do slip, be prepared. I recommend these boots highly!

I hesitated for quite some time before ordering these boots because I felt the shaft might be too high on someone of my modest stature (I'm 5'3"). No worries! This boot is potentially perfect for anyone. It comes a bit over the kneecap in the front, but is cut low behind the knee, providing a stylish and perfectly comfortable fit. I am a boot junkie and own a nice collection of very high quality boots (including several other pairs of Frye boots), but this boot is my favorite! It is so well made and classically styled, I feel confident I'll wear it for many years. The shaft is soft and pliable and comfortable right out of the box. I have relatively slender calves, so many boots "gap" on me. This pair does not. The fit is extremely flattering! The foot bed is very firm but, after 4 months of regular wear, I'm discovering what a bonus that is. Unlike much of my footwear - which is "cushy" but doesn't hold up all that well to frequent wear - this foot bed has molded perfectly to my foot. I do have fallen arches, so inserted gel arch supports, but this boot needed nothing else to make it wildly comfortable. This boot is a bit narrow, which worked well for me, but might be an issue for someone with a wide foot. I can't say enough about the Dorado Riding boot! Love it!

These boots were a gift I had been dreaming of for months. I had been going back and forth with these and the Lindsey Plate. I love the looks of both. I just left it up to my husband to choose and he made a great choice. What a great Valentine's gift! I had read to wear them for short times at first, but I put them on and haven't let up. I have worn them for 12-15 hours at a time and no blisters yet. I have worn them several days in a row and they are great. Tons of compliments! A+ Zappos service. As always expected.

I have a high instep, and often can't get my foot into a boot that doesn't have a zipper. These beauties slipped right on, and are very comfortable. Some reviewers mentioned that their toes were cramped, but I have a size 10 medium width foot, and my toes have plenty of room. The leather is so beautiful, and I love the whisky color.

I've owned my taupe Dorado boots for over a year. By now I've completely forgotten that there was some minor adjusting as the boot has now found it's way to fit my foot perfectly. I LOVE these boots - I would wear them every day if I could. People will even stop me on the street and compliment me on my boots. I'm considering another pair, but I just can't decide which color next. Might have to bury me in these boots, I love them that much!

These boots are gorgeous, flattering, timeless and worth every darn dollar! Yes, they can be hard to slide on - but here is the trick to know until the boot conforms to your lovely foot. Sounds silly, but slide a dry cleaners plastic bag over your foot, slide foot into boot and then just rip out the plastic bag! After a few wearings, the boot will know your foot and bag will not be necessary. I learned this trick during years of buying high end cowboy boots. Which are are a tight fit! Boots without zippers must be hard to put on or they will clunk like a fool when you walk in them! High insteps like mine are no problem - especially with these quality boots that will conform to your foot! I love them in many colors! And furthermore, invest in quality boot forms for the sole of the boot and trees to keep the top shape from flopping over and creasing in your closet! Do this immediately after taking the boots off. These are quality and if you take care them - many many years of enjoyment. Curled toes on boots or bad creases are so tacky!

Beautiful boots. Very authentic riding boot style and the super dark charcoal color is gorgeous. They ran a little small so had to order a 1/2 size larger.

These are gorgeous. This is my fourth pair of Fryes and these are so stunning. Yes, they are very narrow. I have normal width feet and athletic calfs at 15½". They were a struggle to try on the first time as the footbed is so narrow. Having others I know they stretch and it does not take too long. I stuffed the foot for three days - jam packed - and then wore them to a Christmas party and was fine the whole night. They were still snug but not painful. I got a few compliments on them on the first night out. I always wear half a size down with Frye but with these boots you could go your normal size due to the narrowness. I am not sure why they do not just give you another ½"

I bought these boots after a lot of shopping around, because the price was rather steep. The boots are really beautiful, but they are the most uncomfortable boots that I have ever worn. I bought them late in the season last winter and did not have the opportunity to wear them. Hoping they would break in kept them and have worn them on several occasions and I am limping by the end of the day. They are beautiful boots, but not worth the high price.

I love these boots. I would get them in every color if I could afford it. I got them in the smoke because it was on sale and I love the color more then I thought I would. It is a very dark brown and it is actually more versatile than I thought it would be. I have bigger calves and they fit over them great. It took about a week of wearing them for them to break in but once broken in they are very comfortable. I don't regret spending the money at all. Can't wait to save up and get a pair in black.

Ended up with a 9 1/2 after several back and forth returns. These are beautiful, soft, classy, comfortable and fit like a glove. Love the length, heel height, straps, everything. They will travel with me to Paris this winter. I may add a gel insole for cushion.

These boots are exactly as described! After reading TONS of reviews, I decided to take the plunge and purchase these. They fit as others have indicated, with some initial discomfort and heel slipping, but have greatly improved as I continue to wear them. They are tall (I'm 5'8'' and they hit the bottom of my knee cap), and the calves are roomy which may be a problem for some with very slim legs. Overall a great investment.

Wow! I had really hoped not to like these boots, given the price. BUT, I loved them out of the box! They are remarkably soft (I expected very stiff) yet with good structure - a really beautiful leather. I could wear them without socks out of the box but tried them on with fairly thick socks, as that's how I'll wear them. I usually run 7-7.5, but got these in the 7.5 to accommodate the socks. True to many reviews, the heel slips a bit and the toe box is somewhat snug. I am assuming that time or the shoe guy can loosen the toe box just fine. I am also banking on the heel being okay after a while. I am 5'5" and not short of leg - the boot comes up over the knob of my knee and just below the kneecap. So, if you are short of leg, these may be too tall. I like the silver tone buckles - sometimes hard to find. Also, the orange interior concerned me on the site, but it is much less bright in person, a much earthier, subtler tone, that barely shows and is not at all disctracting. Lastly, I have quite narrow calves, so I tend to be awash in a lot of boots. These are still a pinch wide for my calves but as close as I've ever come to perfect for me. They can certainly work for wider calves but I would think really wide calves may have trouble. Also, I have high arches but did not have any trouble with the fit in those terms. These are lovely and I highly recommend giving them a try.
