This is not my first pair of Frye riding boots, so I have gone through the break-in period before to come out the other side in love with my boots. I have just tried on my new Dorado riding boots in black leather, my regular size in all my other Fryes, and they look and feel great. I agree with other reviews that they are initially stiff, and slip in the heel, but I have other riding boots and hand-tooled cowboy boots that felt the same way in the beginning, before the sole has learned to bend, and the leather molded to your feet, so I am optimistic. I will wear them around the house and if they seem to be okay, will wear them for short periods at first. Any well-made, durable leather soled boot requires some break-in. They are truly a gorgeous boot, and an investment, as they will last for years.

Bought these for my daughter and she loves them! She wears a cableknit like sock with them, nothing real heavy. She'd like another pair same style, different color.

These boots are beautiful, but run a full size smaller in dark brown. I tried them on last year in the antiqued brown and they ran a size big. It s a roll of the dice.

These are so comfortable! The leather is exquisite, the crafstmanship apparent and the style is timeless! The boots do not slouch, even after standing up in my closet for at least two weeks! The boots come right up to your knees, for reference I am 5'7". The size is spot on. I wear between at 8-8½, but since I will be wearing thicker socks for the fall/winter I went with an 8½. The heel is slightly loose when I wear them with tights, but completely manageable! The boots are worth saving for as they will last a lifetime!

These boots are expensive but worth it! I live in the Northeast, so winters are pretty rough between the snow, sleet, rain, and salt on the sidewalks. I was going through a pair of boots every winter, so I finally decided to splurge on these rather than spending a lot each fall on a new pair of flat leather boots. I have just survived my third winter in these and they are better than ever. After a slight break-in period, the leather molds itself to your foot. I wear them 4-5 days a week from November to February/March, and they are good for work and for weekends.

These boots are absolutely beautiful! And very well made. The leather is soft but not too soft that they crinkle or fold at the ankles. I am usually an 8.5 but ordered an 8, and I am so glad I did, they fit perfectly. There is a slight bit of heel slippage but nothing major, and they fit better the more they are worn. I ordered the Bordeaux and the color is great, these won't be the last pair of Frye boots that I order! Worth every penny.

The Frye Dorado is just what I've been looking for. I have been looking for the perfect riding boots for so long now. I ordered a 6 1/2 and the fit is perfect. I found the fit to be true to size. I am 5'3 and the boot comes up to the bottom of my knee. I wish it was an inch shorter but hopefully the leather will slouch a little with time. Like all my Frye boots the heel is wide but I just use a heel insert and that works for me. All in all these boots are comfortable and look great. Love these boots.

Read the previous reviews before and am very pleased with these boots. Classic style. Beautiful boots. Read up on how to break new boots which helped with the issues previously reported about heel stiffness. Still breaking in so only wearing few hours every other day & no significant problems. Hints I found online included warming boots with blow dryer or warm wet clothes inside prior to putting on and wearing several hours/till dry for custom fit. Read filling boots with warm water and then wearing till dry but did not need to do this to resolve large calf issues.

I'd been looking all season for a riding boot before settling on these, and I'm glad I waited. Ordered a half size smaller than normal, as always with Frye boots, and they fit perfectly. The heel is not snug, as other reviewers have noted, but I don't find it a problem as it accommodates a thicker sock. Width around the calf is perfect: wide enough for a skinny jean, but not gaping.

These boots are absolutely beautiful. Thanks to Zappos "Wish List", my husband bought these for me for Christmas. While the heel is a little big for me, the boots are so stunning I must keep them. They are soft, beautifully dyed and perfect with skirts; and, they are breaking in nicely. Prior posts are right; the toe is a little narrow (and I have a narrow foot), and the heel is a little wide. I'm 5'5" with an average calf size and the boot fits my calf nicely. These boots are well worth the money!

Wonderful boots, tons of compliments on them. They do look better on a tall girl. I'm 5'8" and they are the perfect height. Order true to size. The toes were snug when new but they take some break in time, which is wearing them a couple of times. Expensive but well constructed and good leather.

I just got mine in taupe, and they are stunners. I understand what people are saying about going down a half size, but the toe in this boot is pretty narrow, and the smaller size left my tootsies numb. They're pretty comfy out of the box, and will only get more comfortable with wear! Beautiful, just beautiful.

I am in love with these boots. I had wanted them in black for quite awhile and had to buy them somewhere else as Zappos was out of my size (sorry Zappos! You know I love you!). They look beautiful on. I've worn them so far with skirts and leggings and they look great. I do understand what reviewers are saying about heel slippage but I find the right medium thick sock does the trick. Yes, good quality boots with leather soles can be a little slick when first worn but that is normal. Once they are worn a bit they will be less slick or there are very inexpensive pads that can be stuck on the sole. Me, I wouldn't trade these boots for nothin'. (Well, okay, new car or house maybe but other than that...)

These boots are a work of art. They're definitely unlike any other boots I've owned (price, stiff sole, cowboy boot-esque toe shape and sole) but they are wonderful. I purchased a half size down and feel only slight discomfort in the toes after a long day on my feet. The leather is more weathered (less shiny) and a little lighter in color than in the picture. They're my first Fryes, but certainly not my last!

I have wanted a pair of Frye boots for ages; I finally made my mind up with the Dorado riding boot. They are extremely comfortable, look great with everything, and I get compliments no matter where I go! Do yourself a favor - treat yourself and try a pair.

This is a beautiful, classic riding boot that I sadly have to return because it is too wide for my narrow foot and slim calf.

I love the look and texture of the boot, however it is not quite as comfortable as I had hoped. The heel of the boot seems wider than it should be because my heel lifts out of the boot when I walk. I am not wearing them as much as I thought I would due to this problem. I will figure out what to put in the heel so mine won't slip as much.

Love these boots! Like others have said, it's a bit rough breaking them in, but once you do they are perfect! I would also definitely recommend putting adhesive padding in heels to keep them from rubbing, it worked wonders! I have pretty wide feet, and though tight at first they now fit perfectly! I can't stop wearing them--they go with everything!

I wasn't sure if I would like this color or not. However, it is really lovely and works as a neutral. The texture is nice as well. They are a bit roomy in the heel which is to be expected in a riding boot. I wear mine with white jeans tucked in and any one of my longer sweaters.

I absolutely love these boots! They are my first Frye boots, and I am definitely a loyal customer now! I had read some mixed reviews (mostly good) about the boot being too big for some people's calf, but I certainly did not and do not have that problem. They are comfy and fit awesome. I would definitely recommend these to any woman who is looking for tall riding boots and isn't afraid to spend some money for a high quality product!

Gorgeous, very comfortable boot. It is quite tall, but great for me at 5'7" with a little longer legs. It also has room for my "athletic" calves without being baggy. I can tuck my jeans in and go. And don't forget, it just looks fabulous. I get so many compliments on these boots!

I love love love this boot. I've bought and returned so many black riding boots over the years, searching for the perfect pair... about to give up in despair. I've had good luck with Frye in the past so I tried again. My criteria: stylish and modern yet timeless, sporty but elegant, wear with jeans or dress up slightly; and, oh, they must FIT. I'm a runner with muscular calves -- so even though I've seen some pairs I like they didn't fit. These are perfect (although the zip up style didn't fit me and went back). And so comfortable. Every time I wear them I get compliments. The only minor complaint that I have is that the shaft is about 1' too tall for me -- it hits my knee bone. I am considering having a shoemaker fix it, but don't want to risk ruining an otherwise perfect boot. Buy immediately and without remorse!!

Beautiful boots. Yes, a little loose in the heel but if I wear thick socks and slip a gel pad in it is fine. Worth it!

I have been stalking these online for quite sometime now (years!) and I finally purchased them in black and I could not be happier! I was hoping they would go on sale but they are always in style and that never seemed to happen. Be that as it may, they fit true to Frye sizing. I am usually an 8.5 in almost all other brands but I take an 8 in Frye and these were no exception for me. The heel is large at first but once they are broken in; specifically when the sole gives, which is unusually stiff at first; the heel no longer slips and they fit like a glove! The calf is average, not too skinny but also not too large, and I find that the pull on boot is more versatile than those with a zipper. I personally think they are worth every penny. Some boots are awesome but trendy, which is okay. These, however, are a classic! You will be able to wear them every single year! Don't hesitate!
