This is an absolute stunning boot in the photos, but sadly, the style and fit didn't live up to my expectations. Regarding the style - the leather looks much more luxurious and soft in the photos, but in reality, it appears "pock-marked" and stiff. Regarding the fit - the boots do run true to size (length-wise), but are awkwardly wide at the heel and uncomfortably narrow at the toe. All in all, I was as impressed as I thought I would be, especially at this price. Alas, I returned.

I love Frye boots but sadly these boots are not quite as elegant as they look in the photos...more rugged looking, actually, and the brown leather has a dull sheen. They are not rich looking at all. They are a tighter fit in the foot than the Shirley. They also are very tall. I had high expectations for these boots but sadly will be returning them. I am keeping the Shirley.

This boot is so beautiful and I am very disappointed that I have to send it back. The heel is very wide and I have a narrow heel, so it slips with every step. Blisters waiting to happen. I ordered a half size smaller, based on other reviews, and the length was right. The toe fit fine, so it seems odd that the heel is so big. Too bad, I would love to wear this boot. Zappos service perfect, as always.

These are indeed beautiful boots. Knee-high, mouth-watering leather, gorgeous detailing, great with skirts and dresses. I read every review here before ordering just to see what I was in for. I have NEVER paid more than $100 for a pair of shoes, so this was a practically life-changing investment on my part. I have to echo the sentiments of many others about the heel slippage, though. I am a true size 9, and while the base of the shoes fit perfectly, the sole is so stiff that it does not bend when I walk…thus causing the also stiff heel to rub up and down the base of my feet. BUT, that did not stop me from beginning my journey to breaks these babies in. Initially I resigned myself to wear them around the house for a little bit everyday...after a few days I felt I could handle it out in the real world. By the time I got home that night after work and a night at dinner I had quarter+ sized ripped open blisters on the backs of my feet...despite wearing bandaids underneath of socks. So, next step (now that it is too late to return them) is to take them to a leather/shoe craftsman in town. Maybe he can stretch the feet or make the soles more pliable. I know something has to be possible. I also got some of those sticky heel grips to try so that the shoes might stay with my heels as I walk. These options are still in the works, though. Bottom line: these are great boots visually, but just be aware that they are not a dream wear for everyone (even if they "fit" like a glove). Perhaps they are what true riding boots are supposed to be...stiff and sturdy. Not sure that equates to real-world wear, though. Here's hoping I can get my money out of these guys. Maybe I am supposed to get multiple rounds of blisters...will that eventually make them fit?

This is such a lovely boot, however, there is just so much extra room in the heel of the boot I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to keep it. It fits good everywhere else except for the heel. I ordered a size 8 and if I had ordered a size 7.5, it would have been too tight. I even put on a super thick pair of socks which then made the boot too tight and it still slips at the heel. I have the black leather pair and they fit great. I don’t know why this pair in the taupe color is fitting a little bigger. Take your chances when ordering the taupe color one. Like I said, the black leather pair fit just fine.

This is a beautiful boot. After only a day of wearing, the heel counter had stretched to the point of my foot slipping out with every step. I found them true to size but perhaps a tad too wide. I have narrow feet.

After carefully reading all of the reviews on this Frye Dorado Riding Boot, I decided to take a chance. I was very concerned about the reports on heel slippage, so I decided to order an 8.5 instead of a 9. I have two other pairs of Frye Boots (Harness and Campus) in size 9 and they fit swell, a little big, but never a problem with slipping, blisters, tightness, etc. These boots run big. They are longer than where my toes end, but kind of tight in the ball of the foot area, and I don't have any issues with width or bunions. Unfortunately, they slip in the heel like mad. I am so disappointed. I don't know if it's just this pair, or if it's all of them. I'm wearing them right now and here's what happens: Standing with my feet flat on the ground, they're fine, but if I position my feet into a tiptoe, you can feel a gigantic gap of space under your heel area. When I walk, even just a few feet my heel goes up and down rubbing the back of the boot. It's really annoying. I'm going to see if there's anything I can do about this because they are gorgeous boots. The shaft fits perfectly and even offers plenty of room to tuck in jeans (my calves are normal sized). I'll try a few things in an effort to remedy the situation and report back with the results.

These shoes might very well be the best shoes ever made, and certainly the best shoes that I have ever owned. As someone who is a bit obsessed with the 70's, these platforms represent every dream fulfilled of what it might have been like to have been the ultimate boho diva in 1978. When I opened the box, I almost wept at how flawless they were in workmanship and detail. Then I tried them on, and they slid onto my feet like Cinderella's slippers, and I was shocked to find that they are comfortable. Four inch platforms are comfortable? YES!!! And I am not one of those people that wears heels very often, so that is amazing to me. These shoes are pure heaven in a box--thanks to both Kork-Ease and Zappos!!!

These boots are stunning BUT the shaft was way too tall for me. I'm 5'4. They came up to about mid kneecap but the way they hit the kneecap caused the boot to wrinkle/sag. They did not fit nicely at all. I don't necessarily care if the fit is not snug, but definitely was looking anticipating a smoother fit. Back they go but boy are they pretty!

These are the most uncomfortable poorly designed boots ever. The heel slips so bad I get blisters! I put on two pairs of socks and that fixes the heel, but makes the toes too tight (very painful). They aren't shaped right apparently. Also, they scratch so easily and the bottoms scuff up (visible around the edges). I'll never buy another pair of Frye boots!

While I loved the color, the quality of leather was not up to par. I have this boot in black, and the quality of the black leather seems to be better than the charcoal gray leather. I was very disappointed, because as I said I loved the color!

Fantastic styling, but the heel is too roomy so the back of my foot pulled up when I walked. Also, these are for wide-calved women. Even with the adjustable strap (which only adjusts so much), my legs were swimming in them. For this kind of money, I want a perfect fit. These were far from it.

These look amazing, but slip a lot when they are on, and are gapey around the front of the ankle. I really wanted to love them as they look amazing, but not perfect.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)

I was so excited to get an expensive but hopefully high-quality pair of boots which I can care for and enjoy for years. First, when I opened the Zappos box I was disappointed to find that the boots did not come in a Frye brand box, which made me suspicious of whether this was a previously-worn, returned item; my hunch was right. The pair I got was scuffed up on the outside, the insoles were un-glued from (what I suspect is) hours of wearing and/or walking, and the calves were stretched out. Zappos usually has excellent customer service and quality control, so this review, I guess, is more about my disappointment with Zappos than is about the shoes themselves. I loved the look of the boots, but I expected thicker, stiffer leather (that would stretch to fit the wearer in time) for this price, but this pair was flimsy thin material that may have become that way through wear by a previous buyer. Beautiful brown-burgundy color was beautiful though, and I really recommend that aspect of these boots, but that's where it ends. So disappointed - these will have to go back...

I was terribly disappointed with these Frye boots. The quality was far less than any other Frye purchase that I have ever made. The quality was cheap. I would not be surpized if these were knock-offs, as they were not in the original box. For this price, I expected much more. I am surprised that Zappos sold them.

I love the way these boots look; they're the perfect looking riding boot when they're not on my body. Unfortunately, all of Frye's tall boots look like fishing waders on me as I'm only 5'4" tall with fairly thin legs (110 pounds and wear a size 7 shoe). Given that the average woman is 5'6" it seems odd to me that Frye seems to use a fit model that is Amazonian with these boots hitting most woman much too high on the leg. I'm of the opinion that no matter how good something looks off the body, if it doesn't flatter the figure, don't wear it. Wide, baggy, boots that come all the way up to the knee make a woman's legs look short, thick, and stumpy; all you see are the thighs and then a thick shape coming straight off of the knee. A perfect height hits several inches below the knee so that you can see the shape of the leg (this is how these look on the 6 foot tall models). Just as jeans come in different lengths, and shoes often come in different widths, I wish boots came in different height shafts (petite, normal, tall). At the very least, Frye should consider making a few styles to flatter women under 6 feet tall!

If available, I would have given this a NO Star. Zappos sent me the totally wrong boot AND it was a WORN boot. Both boot's soles are scuffed and dirty. Customer service was helpful in resending, haven't received the correct one yet, but I don't think a used boot should have ever been sent to me in the first place!

MAJOR DESIGN FLAW with this gorgeous boot. The buckle in the back left a huge gash across the opposite knee when I sat down and crossed my legs. Hated to return them because they are so beautiful.
