I read reviews before and after and the some negative points are valid but would not stand in the way of purchse in my opinion.
I think these boots are great!
I happened to buy them not knowing Chicago was going to be hit with another Polar Vortex, so they really came in handy and there is more deep cold and snow ahead:
1. These are big boots, but they are very stabilizing in snow and ice and really grip well on smooth surfaces. (I wear a 10 and when I opened the box I thought they accidentally sent me men shoes, but no).
2. They do require some effort to put on because of the height, extended lacing, and the close ankle fit. To me it's worth the effort.
3. I wore them to drive to local errands, but chose not to for expressway commute (changed to loafers for the drive). They are big and I am cautious on highway. I also stopped wearing open heeled shoes for commute.
4. They are great for walking, almost have a propelling feel to me with the support.
5. They are very attractive and are warm.

I had been without winter boots for an entire cold season and it absolutely killed my feet. Being a Michigan native, not having snow boots is signing yourself up for ice cold toes and misery. Also, being a college student, I spend/spent a lot of time in my day commuting to and from class in freezing cold weather. Needless to say, it sucked. This year I wanted to buy myself some really nice boots that would actually last multiple years and were as cute as they were functional. Enter the Joan of Arctic boot!
First of all, let me say, I LOVE these boots. They come up most of my calf so they keep my legs as well as my feet warm and cozy whether I wear thin socks or thick ones. I am the type that doesn't avoid the snow when I walk around so the fact that they are waterproof is a huge plus! I am normally a size 8 1/2, but i bought a 9 just to be sure I could double up on socks if I needed to and the boots do seem to run true to size.
If you're still considering buying these boots, I would highly suggest it! I love them and they definitely do their job!

I was sure I'd love these boots but I don't. They are extremely hard to get on and when you try to pull them off the whole lining comes out and is hard to push back in without wrinkling. Way to frustrating to deal with each time you step outside. So I had to return them.
Also didn't like the way the tongue in the front of the boot sits way lower than the fur wrapping around the top- just looks weird in a mullet hairdo type of way.
Last but not least the pull tabs have snaps and as you pull them they pop open and unsnap which is startling and annoying. I can't understand why these boots are so popular other than they are cool colors with nice fur. Oh well, back to the drawing board for normal looking winter boots.
I'd also recommend:

I tend to have a slight larger width. If wearing a standard width shoe, I can't have a tapered toe. These boots fit great being that the toe is not tapered.

I bought these boots Winter of 2016. I had been wanting them for several years, due to very cold Chicago winters. Well, I didn't have to wear them too much because of the mild winter. So I wore them maybe 3 times that winter, and the following winter also a handful and last winter more than the previous two. That first winter, I noticed right away, that they leaked. My feet were wet, and cold. Even with Dr scholls inserts, they are cold and wet if there is a lot of snow and slush. I haven't bought new boots since these were 200 bucks.
My feet are freezing right now and all i did was walk out of the house and drive to work.
Please be aware. The boots say waterproof on them, and all the getup on them makes them look warm, but it's a farce.

Just came back from my trip to a below zero country. The boots kept my feet warm and was able to stay outdoor longer. True to size and very comfy.

These feel warm! I have a high arch so they are difficult to get on and off, but I suspect this will loosen with wear. They are very roomy in the toe box, and once on they are not tight on my arch. They do look big and kind of “clunky,” so be aware of that.

I read reviews to order down a half size. I ordered my true size and they fit perfectly. I have walked on soft and packed snow and ice and these are great boots! They will be my winter go to boot.

I love the look of these. They keep your feet really warm. If you are going to be walking really far they will feel heavy. And you have to sit down to get them on and off. But overall I love them.

I ordered both the Joan of Arctic and the Tofino II so that I could choose the one I liked better. I typically wear either an 8.5 or a 9, so I ordered the size 9 and it was the right call. I could have even gone with a 9.5 and with thick socks that would have been fine, too. I chose the Joan of Arctic because it had more wiggle room in the foot area, seemed much warmer and more waterproof, and the shaft of the boot is closed (so as to keep out the snow) much more effectively than the Tofino. The Joan of Arctic is a clunkier boot than the Tofino II, but I personally thought it looked cuter and better proportioned than the Tofino, particularly with skinny jeans. The only negative is that the back of the boot does rub a bit on the ankle, but it isn't a major concern.

If you want warmth, comfort and durability, this boot is for you. They are great for deep snow, and if you are a snowshoe'r, well this is want you need. They are true to size, maybe a bit wider than normal, but you need the width so you can wear a thick sock. I love mine!

Got the cattail color in 8.5. They re a gorgeous color, super comfortable. A bit tough to get in and out but I've only worn them twice. My only complaint is that my feet are NOT warm at all. I live in Massachusetts and the weather these past 3 days has been BRUTAL. I've been wearing double thick socks and my feet still freeze. I thought these were meant for super cold weather?

I really, really wanted these to work. I LOVE the look and they seemed perfect for what I wanted: warm shoes to put on w/jeans, leggings or anything else and not worry about them. But - that wasn't going to happen with these. First, they were nearly impossible to get on! The area around the ankle (shaft?) was like concrete. I have normal width feet - usually wear 7 1/2 sized shoes. Even if I loosened all of the laces, these were like a workout trying to get them on. The laces have nothing to do w/the shaft area so it wouldn't have mattered - but I was desperate to like these. After almost 10-15 minutes to try and get these on, they felt SO cumbersome - like I couldn't walk. I can't figure that out - except maybe they get softer after you wear them - assuming someone could ever get them on! I have two other pair of Sorel shoes which I love. But these were impossible to wear because I couldn't get my feet into them w/out scraping or bruising my entire ankle area.

Love these boots. I normally wear an 8 but ordered an 8.5 based on previous reviews. The 8.5 is perfect. They are comfy and keep my feet dry and warm. I don’t think they are too heavy (I saw other reviews mention that) but they are adorable, not clunky. I want to wear these boots even if it’s not snowing out :)

These boots are adorable for walking around town, waterproof, good for 30 degree weather. Make sure to wear proper mix calf socks thick enough to prevent ankle blisters. There is a thick edged solid glue seam located near ankle inside of the boot shell that will easily tear up your ankles.

Shoveled snow today. 7 inches. Was out for 1 hour and could not feel my toes. 12 degrees. Terrible. Shoveled yesterday twice. 23 degrees. Feet were fine. Today I wore 2 pair wool socks and it did not help. They are cute but clunky. Size 8 true to size maybe big in heal.

I had been looking for a new winter boot for about a year and had my eye on the Joan of Arctic. I got them for Christmas this year and am so happy with them. I live in Utah and spend a lot of time in the mountains both in Utah and Idaho. This winter we have gotten a ton of snow and there has been some bitterly cold days. These boots are so comfortable, warm and waterproof. The height is great for keeping my legs warmer and for shoveling and walking around in deep snow. My only qualm is that they run big. I am normally a 7.5 but had to size down to a 7. I may even be able to fit into a 6.5 but I wanted room for thick socks. Overall though, if you size down a half size, they are great boots! I would recommend them to anyone!

I ordered two pairs of Sorel boots to try for winter and ended up going with the Winter Carnival over these. While these felt more fashionable and fun to wear, I really need boots to wear while playing in the snow with kiddos and running errands during the winter months. So I had to go practical and return these. I will say I agree with other reviews that is was tough to get my foot in but once in, my normal size of 8.5 felt good with thin socks, may have been a bit snug with heavier socks.

I’m a 7 1/2 and 7 1/2 is perfect, smart wool socks fit comfortable. They go on super easy, not sure why others said they had issue, widen the laces. The fee thus far is comfortable. The fur is removable for cleaning. I love the look. Can’t wait to wear them in Iceland.
