Great shoe. Currently training for the TNF 50k Atlanta and this shoes has been solid. Runs slightly narrow compared to my NB roads shoes. I am going to buy the new Speedcross 3 or Crossmax when these are toast but in a half size bigger for a little extra room in the toe box.

I just finished a 30 mile trail race in these babies... and I must say that after 7 days of rain these hills were more like steep downhill and uphill streams. I was knee deep in mud about a 1/6 of the time I was running and to run down wet rocky paths, jump over logs, climb things that looked walls of mud and these shoes were just screaming "Feed me more!" I think I'm going to buy 2 more pair so once these pair are done I don't have to worry about finding a shoe like it. All in all I would give my left nut for these shoes (enough said).

These shoes were money straight out of the box. I purchased them for a Muddy Buddy race three days before the start. They performed flawlessly and kept my feet comfortable without any break-in period.

Only had these a couple of weeks, but have already taken them through snowy, muddy trails, rocky trails, and even trails that you had to crawl up because they were steep and slippery. The good is that they are comfortable, fast, light, and grippy. They almost feel and look like a combination of cleats/running shoes. Definitely not for any type of paved roads or you will wear out the knobby threads. The only minus is that they have a narrow footprint, meaning that you may be prone to turning an ankle on treacherous terrain. It happens to me a couple of times, but not bad just mild turns of the ankle. The lacing is great, and they just look fast too. All in all, if you want a true trail shoe to go along with road running shoes, get these. If you want more of an all-purpose running shoe that can be worn on paved roads and trails, look for something else.

I’m spoiled, I love the lightness of this shoe, but you need a sock; great light trail shoe. Comfort one star down because you blister at the toe base if you go sockless.

Overpronator's dream! As an overpronator I spent several frustrating years with other well known brands before I bought a pair of Speedcross 2 a year ago and couldn't believe the difference. From the moment I tried them on the comfort was in a different league to other trail runners I had used, and the first time I ran in them it was clear that the increased comfort and support also translated into improved performance - the PB times on my regular runs all improved significantly, presumably because my footfall and running style was altered in a positive way. The support for pronators is excellent and the tight fit adds to the overall level of support. The sole is ideally suited to rough trails and off-trail running, and the grip is excellent both on wet rock and boggy peat. Uphill and downhill performance is superb. I have also used them for road running even though the sole is slightly unconventional for this purpose! In extremely hot weather I have found the need to change socks on very long runs (20k+) due to perspiration but this is the only criticism I could make and only applies in exceptionally hot weather conditions. I have just bought a second pair - not because the first pair is worn out but because I wanted to stock up before Salomon 'improves' them.

A ninja could not ask for a better shoe! Ok, if your idea of trail running is on maintained trails, then this is not the shoe for you. Salomon makes many shoes for this kinda running. This shoe will give you the kind of grip you will need for flying down switchbacks with boulders and rocks as you go. Get your size if you don't want the shoe ripped from your foot. It is made to fit snug so you don't lose it! As you run up trails, the shoe yells at you, "Faster!” making you feel like less of a man and out of shape. As you fly down trails at high speeds, eyes tearing up from the wind, using all your senses to keep you from tripping off the next switchback, and in a quick moment of airborne silence the shoes whisper… faster...

Best shoe in years - Good looking, true to size, great support for all day comfort, sturdy well made shoe for my 5 mile daily beach sand powerwalk. The salt in the sand eats away metal eyelets of other shoes.

Great shoe, but not optimal for hot weather runs - Agree with many excellent reviews. Best for moderate to cool weather. For a hot humid run (10K+), they may trap sweat and moisture, in part due to the heavily padded tongue. Under those conditions stick with Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra or more breathable trail shoes. Lovely fit on the Speed Cross 2, but tighter toes than XA Pro.

Great light shoes - These are awesome! I bought a pair of them b/c Outside mag. said they were #1 and I agree. My feet are size B, and these fit like a dream. Light but stable. Buying my second pair.

Great shoe - After a lifetime of wearing Nikes, Adidas, New Balance, and Asics, I decided to give Salomon a try. I have to say that they are simply magnificent. This is my second pair of Salomons and at this point I can't imagine going back. Great styling, well-made, and while I initially had reservations about the tying system, it really works well. These shoes are light and nimble with good support. Highly recommend.

Best Trail Shoes - These shoes are incredible. I have trained in the gym for 3 weeks logging at least 20 miles a week on the tread mill and my feet feel great! The pronation support is awesome. After 10 miles or so, my shoes tend to pronate but these shoes have held up! On the trail, they handle like your driving a sports car on a winding road! Comfort and support while being ultra light-weight.

GO VERTICAL with this GREAT CLIMBER - Spiderman must wear these babies because you can literally climb a wall. Grip is EXCELLENT! Trail walkers or runners won't be disappointed with the stability either. Not good for flat or paved surfaces due to the tread - but that's what makes these the best hiking shoe EVER!

Fantastic - The Salomon Speedcross 2 is all that the magazine reviews claimed it to be. It is extremely cushioned and comfortable, the tread grips well without holding mud, it fits like a cushioned road shoe but performs like a serious trail beast. And it looks great! This shoe is no clunky trail shoe that sacrifices speed. I ran a 50-miler with only a few wears beforehand and no blisters or foot problems. The only negative, if this is actually negative, is that it seems to run about a quarter size too small. I wear a 9.5 in just about all running shoes, and the 9.5 in the Salomon feels good, but there is just a touch of the feeling of "I wish I had just a bit more toe box." I recommend going up the half size. Overall, fantastic. And Zappos price is good, especially with free overnight shipping.

Ferraris for your feet - I love this shoe. First hike out with them I felt like I could run up, down, backwards, the light weight and perfect fit (ordered a 1/2 size larger than normal) are simply outstanding. Second hike with the shoes I got a bit overzealous and tried a sharp downhill cut while mid-sprint across some rocks...the edge of the shoe caught a little too well, ankle rolled, category three ankle sprain...yeeouch! Break them in and get used to them. This is a phenomenal shoe but I learned a hard lesson that you need to get a feel for how they react before you press the gas and go.

Awesome shoes. Started out in Wisconsin, the humidity killed my feet, they burned and I almost regret buying them. Now in Colorado trail running, mountain biking and everyday walking around they are much cooler and breathable. The tread also amazing for trail and rock! Off to Morocco on Friday can't wait to take on the Atlas mountains with these puppies! These are the more breathable, if you're looking for water proof try the GTX series or whatever.

I have had three pair of shoes from Salomon (all ordered through Zappos), and they are all great. My recommendation is to get a wild color, stretch your comfort zone and enjoy the reward!

This shoe continues to impress me so much. So that I had to order yet another to put on the shelf on the chance that no better shoe will ever be designed.

Second pair of Soloman Speedcross 2's that I've bought - they are the best mud/snow trail shoe on the market, in my opinion. They hug the foot in all the right ways, keep the foot stable on the most awkward terrain and are super fast and light. The traction is superior to anything I've tried with similar construction and they feel great on dry dirt as well. Best xterra triathlon and sub 25k trail shoe on the market, in my opinion.

These are the best trail running shoes I've ever owned. They are plain old sticky when running over rocks and roots. I used a pair of xt wings 2 before these. Remember these are Trail shoes. So, don't use them on the road! These are great at what they are supposed to be. Get out and hit the trail!

I have been running in this shoe for the last 4 years. The sizing has changed somewhat, the first 3 years (4-5 pairs), I wore a size 12. The last 2 pairs I have had to increase by a whole size to a 13. Besides that, it is a fantastic shoe and is as close to a trail racing flat as you can get. At 6'2" and 205lbs, I have naturally good running mechanics so this shoe works for me since I need no pronation or supination correction. However, I am on the limit of striking through the sole on impact. If I am not wearing this awesome shoe, I sporting around in my Vibram Five Fingers, which is the next level in freedom and quickness compared to this shoe.
