Maybe I am of a generation that needs instruction booklets in how to put something on. The diagrams on the box are insufficient for my understanding. It's the Velcro strap that is confusing me now. Maybe clarity will come with a new day but at the moment I'm feeling frustrated and tempted to take the product back to the store from which I bought it.

I like the addition of straps to hold the Trax on my boots, but we bought 3 pairs, and on two of them the metal rectangular ring that holds the straps came off. I'm disappointed.

Not suitable for hiking. YakTrax are Ok for very specific situations, but they are delicate. The YakTrax warranty page says "Yaktrax is not for use on gravel, concrete or sanded roads cleared of snow" and they mean it. I used these for daily walks on snow and ice covered improved trails. They lasted less than 20km before breaking. If you are using these for short trips over tame surfaces they will be fine. For any terrain more difficult than a parking lot I would strongly recommend Kahtoola Microspikes.
I'd also recommend:

I used my YakTrax Pros two evenings and then again two years later on a 4-mile hike on icy/slushie but otherwise not extraordinarily challenging trails. They were easy to put on and provided VERY good traction, but the rubber broke on mile two of my hike. The product is very well-designed regarding traction but does not seem durable enough for even a short hike. If they sold a heavy duty version I might try them again.

Fit time wearing them and first run with them. Overall they worked well Just not happy the rubber has already broken being I just pulled them out of the box. To be fair this is my 5th pair.. they usually only make it a winter before the breaking. I only use them for running.

I bought the Yaktrax to wear when snowblowing my driveway.Unfortunately one broke the second time I wore them. The rubber inside the metal coil let go nean the center junction. My first pair of Yaktrax lasted a long time but this second pair has been a disappointment.

Full disclosure: I've only used my Pro-model twice, both times for winter trail running.
These crampons are comfortable and provide adequate traction whilst running on icy/snowy terrain, as long as it's flat or uphill. But on the downhill sections - especially those of a fairly steep gradient (ie; 8% or greater of declination) - the crampons' toe cup slips off the toe of the shoe and works it's way heel-ward; eventually settling in a cowboy boot spur-like fashion. And without the use of the velcro security strap, the yactrac is bound to left on the trail from which you just descended. then the ultimate decision: to turn around and run uphill to retrieve the errant crampon, or call it a loss and continue running home in order to write a two-star review on their website. Obviously, I chose the latter. lol

I bought mine less than a month ago. Took them out on 2 hikes in the neighborhood (4 miles total) then wore them twice while I shoveled after this last snow storm. One of them already broke. I'm very disappointed but hoping their customer service will redeem their product reputation, so not a one-star review yet.

I purchased these to hike a well travelled, ice covered rail trail. After 1 hike, the heal strap/coil broke. Not worth the money. The warranty information says to mail proof of purchase to address provided.... no address. Plus, who takes a receipt anymore??

I'm a college student so my budget isn't the greatest so I bought this because it was what I needed at a great price. They worked wonders until the third time I used them. During a trek up an inclined trail, the thin rubber that runs on the side of the foot ripped causing the YakTrax to ride up and need to be adjusted throughout the hike. I loved them while they worked but I was expecting a bit more durability from them.

I just received the Yaktrax Pro cleats as a gift for Christmas and they are already starting to break. At first, I really liked Yaktrax and even recommended them to friends and family who are likewise walking their dogs through snow and ice during the winter. With that said, I am disappointed because I have only worn them a few times and the rubber outerband is definitely not "durable" as advertised. I never expected these to last forever but certainly for at least 2 weeks of short dog walks.

I purchased this product locally. I very much appreciate the traction, but I am not so thrilled with the durability. I walk 5-7 miles daily outside in the snow & ice. I am always careful to actually keep to snow covering. Even after following up with the maintenance suggested, the durability is not sufficient. I had hoped the pair would last 1 winter. I know have my doubts. I would still recommend then, but conditionally.

When in use the Yaktrax Pro works great I was very disappointed that after 2 hikes the plastic bottom ripped. If your looking to buy some Yaktrax I would spend a little extra money and purchase the ones with the metal bottom.

Bought these for mild hiking and from the start they didn't stay in place and the rubber portion broke on both the left and right shoe. This Pro model is geared more for casual use and nothing more.

I bought Yaktrax for steep climbs in rocks and snow, (frozen snot run) they do not work. They slip off and provide no grip. In the flat or small hills they are fine.

I bought a pair of Yaktrax Pros about a couple weeks ago for use on snow-covered/icy Forest Preserve trails. Unfortunately, after less than 15 miles of use, one of the coil-support bands broke, rendering it useless.
IDK, maybe I just got a defective unit???
Am returning under Warranty and will see what happens...

I walk my dog 4+ miles per day in typical Minnesota conditions. The asphalt paved walking path is generally covered with packed snow and ice with occasional patches of bare pavement. I was very impressed with the actually traction performance, but it wasn't long before a number of the rubber bands broke, and/or the metal coil apparently wore through and also broke. Too bad really, the traction was great with no slips, but the durability was very poor.

I bought a pair last winter towards the end and was waiting for a chance to use them. Finally it snowed and got icy here and the first day I wore them, I really liked them for the 2 mile walk I did. I was super excited. Second time, I wore them on a three mile hike and one of the pairs broke on the bottom. The rubber snapped. Company only has a 90 day warranty, so I am out of luck. Talked to a employee at a store and he recommended a different brand that they use for rentals because they are durable and do not break.

I bought a pair in January. Wore just a few times and the rubber broke. I was hoping for better with the Pro - in the past, I have found regular Yaktrax to not be that durable - but seriously after so little time, this is the worst! Would love other recommendations for a good every day traction device.

We bought our YakTrax for a trip one year ago, didn't need them and then needed them for our trip this year. They were brand new in the box and they broke after walking a couple miles on ice. I contacted the customer care team and they are saying they are out of warranty so there is nothing they can do for me. I am very disappointed because the box says satisfaction guaranteed and I am not satisfied considering my purchase did not last long at all under use.

These things are terrible and a complete waste of money. The toe end of the crampons constantly slip over your toe and renders these completely useless. View the attached photo to understand what I am talking about. I spent half of my hike adjusting these darn things. This happens with and without the use of the included strap. By the end of mile 2 they broke completely. Don't waste your money.
I followed the sizing chart provided on this website. TERRIBLE.

Purchased 2 pairs for hunting and neither pair lasted longer than 6 times out. Steel spring wires broke on both. Warranty is good for only 90 days and since both were bought last year and didn't start using the first ones till warranty was up they will do nothing for you. It's a wonder they warranty them for 90 days. Since worn primarily in snow and occasional ice (which is what they are suppose to be designed for) I don't know how they'll last in conditions were someone has to walk on hard surfaces also.
