Quality boot. Required some breaking in around the toe and calf areas. I have wide feet (9.5 - bought this in a 10) and calves. Three things could be better, shape of toes could be a little wider (my outer toes get sore sometimes from the constant rubbing similar to when wearing pointy toed shoes), the leather foot liners could be glued down better (mine fell out), and the arch support could be improved. Despite these complaints, I wear these boots several times a week to toughen up girlie outfits.

I was so looking forward to these being perfect. The left boot was very hard on the inside of the heel and rubbed. I'm going to the Calgary Stampede and wanted a great comfy boot. This was not it. It's such a good looking boot too! So sad it did not work for me.

I've had these for a few weeks now and have some observations. 1: these ran small. I had to go up a 1/2 size so that my toes weren't squashed (and to get my foot to slide in past the ankle without a 15-minute workout) and I probably should have gone up a whole size. However the toe box is very roomy. Almost too roomy. It's an odd combination - short and wide. 2: the arch support runs across the whole shoe right in front of the heel (basically, the arch support is created by the sole rising to the heel). For me it feels a little like having a rock in my shoe, or like a sock that's bunched underfoot. Seems to be less noticeable over time, but I don't know if that's because it's breaking in or if I'm just adapting. 3: I got the black and the leather is kind of...rubbery. Honestly, it feels and looks a bit like galoshes. Some leather conditioner helped with the rubbery look/feel, but I have to just hope the leather relaxes at some point. 4: the black color rubbed off on my pants the first couple times I wore them. That seems to be decreasing after a few wearings, but definitely don't take them out of the box and pull them on over your fave white jeans or leggings. 5: they take a while to break in, and even after loosening the buckles (which work great), I've had a hard time getting them comfortable over my insteps (which are normal height). 6: The traction and sole are great, but the heel is a foam rubber. Not sure how long it will last. Summary: I'd been wanting these boots for a long time, but they are the only Fryes that have ever given me buyer's remorse (I have 5 pair of Frye boots and a few shoes). I'm not loving them, but since it's too late to send them back, I'm just trying to wear them until they become comfortable and/or win me over.

I sadly had to return these boots (which was super easy), thanks Zappos! They were the look I wanted and the brand, but they were a very heavy stiff boot. Probably last forever, but just too heavy for me and I am 5'6" and athletic. The lack of a zipper made them hard to put on and get off, which in the end was the deal breaker for me. I do not think I would be able to get these off without a boot jack. I ended up with the Timberland Lexiss, very similar look but with a zipper.
I'd also recommend:

Ordered my regular size of 8.5, but the boot is very tight over the top of my foot. I was able to squeeze into them, but I don’t think they would loosen up enough to be comfortable.

Have been dreaming about these boots for about 6 months. I finally took the plunge and I couldn't get the right one on! I was able to get the left foot on, so I know they were the right size. I know that my feet are not that different in size! Zappos sent me another pair, same thing. I'm super bummed out. I also should mention that I have owned the Frye Harness 12R for about 7 years now, best pair of boots ever! I really want these boots to fit, but the skin actually scraped off of the top of my foot while trying to work them on, that's when I had enough.

Hard to break in - These shoes are really great looking, but after months of trying to wear them in with thick socks, I still can't wear them in. Really frustrating! Wouldn't recommend them to a friend.

Not sure what is up with these shoes, but OUCH! There is not nearly enough vertical room for a foot to fit; and no amount of stretch can compensate. I own other Frye boots, and am familiar with how they break in. These are just....missing the mark, altogether. Very sad to send them back! I love their look.

Next to impossible to get this boot on without hurting your foot. I sloughed skin off my right foot getting them on. Once on they fit perfect. Not worth the fight getting them on and off. Not sure how these boots passed the design phase.
