Love these boots. They are great with jeans but tremendous with skirts and dresses. Get compliments whenever worn. Comfort improves as they get worn, and they do take some break in time. If they are long enough, give them time to learn to love you. Got these in addition to the ankle high like them, don't know which I like best. They are both great. And these boots are far better than the Veronica Slouch, if you're trying to decide which tall boot. They look similar in the pictures, but the Engineer is a far superior boot.

I admit I am Frye obsessed but these blew me completely away. Gorgeous leather, awesome structure. Super cool, tough look. I'm short and struggle with finding boots with the right shaft height and these are the Goldilocks of boots for me. My new favorites!!!!

Wow! After thinking about/lusting after, and wondering for a long time how these badass engineer boots would fit my skinny chicken/sticks in flowerpots legs, I decided to take the plunge (having tried a couple of cheaper alternatives, and not having been happy with them). The price tag was a bit scary. I own other Fryes, Corral boots and Old Gringos, but this was the most I have ever paid for a pair of boots! But let me say that they are worth it. Having skinny legs and narrow feet, I have had no issues getting the boots on and off, and since the top and instep are adjustable, I was able to customize the fit. Yes, they are a little big around the ankle, and yes, they are somewhat stiff, but I think that these will rectify themselves as time goes by & the boots break in. They feel indestructible, and smell of yummy leather. Well worth the guilt-inducing price!

After being torn between the Veronica Slouch and the Engineer 15R, I ordered the Veronica. Mistake! I returned them and ordered the Engineer. They arrived today (thank you Zappos!) and I am in greasy leather hot knee high bad ass boot heaven! The leather is substantial, the shape of the toe box is exactly what I wanted (the Veronica was not), and the fit is perfect. I ordered my true size (8.5). Having a high arch, I expected them to be a little challenging to put on, and I was not disappointed; but on they went, with the help of plastic bags. I don't want to take them off!

These boots are beautiful and so well made! I absolutely love them. My only issue is they are a little snug - I have a high arch and they can be difficult to put on and wear for extended periods of time. I wish I had ordered up but they are stretching out. I do have other Frye boots and don't have this problem with the others.

In my opinion, these are so much better (yet less expensive) than the Veronica Slouch which was my initial choice. I liked the variety of colors/finishes offered in the Veronica Slouch but the leather felt thin and unnatural. These are the real deal. The leather is thick, soft yet sturdy, and will age well. And you can still fold down the front as some like to do with the Veronica. I only wish they offered more color options but the gaucho color is classy and goes with black/gray as well as brown because of the black sole. I would recommend going up half a size and wearing thick boot socks or adding a heel insert to reduce any heel slippage/rubbing that may result. They may be too tight across the top of the foot if you get your normal size. They may stretch a little but not enough, based on my past experience with Fryes. Also, find a high quality natural beeswax-based product to keep them looking new if you plan to wear them often. My Harness 12Rs became dry and cracked on top of the foot after three years of heavy use because I failed to use a good quality breathable product on them!

These boots are perfect for my lifestyle and corporate casual workplace. I can wear them with skirts or cute colored skinny jeans. They are sturdy without being too heavy. The leather is substantial without being stiff. The soles have enough traction to wear in snow or ice but not so much that it's silly to wear the boots in warmer weather. As far as fit, I'm a fairly solid 7.5. Occasionally, I might wear a 7 in flats. I got a 7.5 in this boot. I feel like I have fairly average calves. The boots slid on with no problems and feel very comfortable. From what I've read, they should get more comfortable as I wear them. Overall, they were exactly the boots I hoped for!

First off, Zappos upgraded me to overnight shipping for free so I could get my gift in time for Christmas! Thanks! Secondly, the boots are awesome. These are my first pair of Fryes and I am already dreaming of my second. They are a bit tricky to get on and off but they are getting easier as time goes on. They are very well made and the leather quality is fabulous!

Wore in 30 degree temps & in the wet. Feet were warm & dry. Took a few wears for me to break in but generally comfortable from the get go. Also, for the first couple of times, took a bit of effort to get the foot in without the plastic bag trick, but each successive wear requires less effort. Note: roughness of leather in the shaft will ruin tights and there may be slight dye transference from the boot onto socks. Leggings seemed to fare well. I would highly recommend this boot for its sturdiness as well as its timeless appeal.

I love these boots, never been a fan of Frye. I ordered several pair of Frye and Harley Davidson and these are my favorite. Wore them the day I received them! My boyfriend loves 'em too! The Harley boots have a great fit, were made in China and went back.

These boots are fantastic. I needed something to stand on the red carpet all day and wear under a skirt and these fit the bill. The width was fine and I have cyclist calves. True to size. I will never by cowboy boots without rubber soles again.

After 7-10 wears they're pretty much broken in. I usually am a size 7 1/2 to 8 and have narrow feet. After reading many reviews, I ordered both sizes and went with my 'true' smaller size. I wore them with thick socks the first few times, but decided to put in my orthos, so now I just wear thin or no socks. They are very comfortable and sturdy. I would definitely recommend these.

I am pleased with the quality of the boot. I am very pleased with Zappos service. The boot is more than I would normally pay from an online store. I wore the boots two times so far. One time for over 8 hours and my feet were very comfortable. They are very hard to get on and off but I am assuming as the boots break in that should change.

These are my 2nd pair of Fryes. I'm converted and have gotten rid of all my other non platform or high heeled boots. I also own Frye harness 12r. I did a lot of research and review reading before I ordered those and found that most people needed a half size smaller than normal, so I got an 8 1/2 instead of my normal 9. That worked famously. Quite a bit of breaking in though, as with all Fryes I assume. Always well worth it. But I ordered an 8 1/2 in the black engineer 15r. Almost impossible to get into, about 15 minutes the first time and then I thought I'd be able to just break 'em in slowly. Then I started reading the reviews on this boot in particular and found that most people fit into their "normal" size. So I ordered a 9 and could not believe the difference. I wore them for 14 straight hours the first night, on my feet, bartending. And put 'em right back on the next day. Ladies, order your normal size in this boot and always read all the reviews about each particular boot before you order! They are tight around the middle of your foot making them a bit hard to get on, so I also recommend getting a long shoe horn and a boot jack to take em off. These things make on and off way easier. Both of these boots are totally classic and will never go out of style or wear out. Well worth the price. These will be my every day boots and work boots forever. (I now only wear Fryes, Havaiana flip flops, or Jeffery Campbell platforms.)

These are very cool & beautiful boots; I wasn't sure if they would look too bulky when I ordered them, but they rule! Totally gorgeous on, they are a matte-type (not shiny-new) leather, which looks great in this style. However, getting them on the first time was a major struggle (and I have narrow feet and narrow ankles). I got the left one on after a bit of pushing, but the right boot would not go on! I was so bummed, but read some reviews that encouraged using the plastic bag trick (works!) to get them on the first time and to go stretch the instep at a cobbler (did it; really helped). The instep on the right foot was tight and hurt after I got it on and wore the boots for a few hours, but the stretching at the cobbler fixed that problem. As far as the length and width, they fit perfectly (once I got them on!). It's still difficult to get the right foot on/off, but I am confident the leather will continue to give and it will get easier the more I wear them. I have a shorter (Frye 12R) pair of boots and they are easy to get on/off now that I've worn them for awhile. These boots need to be broken in, but they are so worth it!

I do not normally spend so much on shoes, but I needed a good pair of work boots that are also comfortable to be on my feet for long hours. And that I can walk the city in. I have only heard great things about Frye boots, and these had a million five star reviews, so I got them. Speedy next day delivery (of course, Zappos is magic! It is crazy). Once they were on my feet I was in love. They are very sturdy, solid leather, thick construction, no zipper to break. This means they will take a while to break in (as any good boots should). But the second day I wore them for 16 hours at work, on my feet the whole time, no problem! Plus I got lots of compliments.

Frye Engineer boot - These boots are GREAT!! Bought ‘em for my girlfriend for Christmas, and she LOVES ‘em. Found the fit true to size, quality top notch, and honestly, I have never had a pair of boots that were made of this thick of leather, and I been ridin’ for over 30 years! Ordered at 9:00 pm, and they were on my porch by 11:00 the next day.... Now THAT's fast!!

Love Frye! This is my first pair of Frye boots. I first ordered the Veronica Slouch in an 8, but returned it because it was too small and the leather looked like it was stretching weird when you wore it up without slouching it. I was going to look at another brand, but decided to give the Engineer 15R a try. I thought it would be too masculine compared to the Veronica slouch, but it turned out so much cuter in person! I got them in a 9 and they fit perfectly (I usually wear an 8-8.5). They also have a bit more arch support than the Veronica. I'm so glad I got these boots and you will be too!

Great boots. I read the reviews and talked to the Frye company about how they fit. I wear 7 in sandals and heels. I ordered an 8 and they fit great. I recommend getting a long plastic shoe horn and trying them on with thin socks or pantyhose at first or you'll get discouraged. After a few times they'll stretch out and you'll be able to slide them on with no trouble. A classic and very well made. I can tell I'll get years of wear out of them and they never go out of style. A great investment!

A Wardrobe Must! You HAVE to own these boots! I've had them for going on a month now and have worn them just about every day. They look good with most everything - jeans, skirts, leggings, etc. The ONLY drawback to these boots is that it's going to take you a good while to break them in. Your heels will likely blister, but once you've broken them in, they are so comfortable and look amazing!

NYC trekking boots - I was looking for an everyday work boot that looked good with skirts and pants; the Engineer serves this purpose well. They look great with black leggings and tunic sweaters or short skirts. The Engineer provides a rugged alternative to "ladylike" heeled boots. I am also very ready for rainy days, snow and New York's slushy winter streets.
