Customer Reviews French Sole Sloop

I've owned these shoes about a month now, and can finally wear them all day without them killing my feet. I normally wear a size 8.5, and followed suggestions to order up a size. My foot is not especially wide, but the part across the top, just under my toes, felt so tight and left a red mark and a "divot" every time. I knew, however, if I ordered a 9.5, they would be too long. I still get a red mark, but they don't seem to be cutting into my foot as much the more I wear them. I'm a teacher and wanted comfortable flats to wear all day in school. These are certainly not out of the box comfortable, but they are improving.

The French Sole Sloop is a wonderful casual shoe. It is very comfortable and cute. I have received a lot of compliments on it. There were several reviews suggesting buying half a size bigger than usual, but I disagree. I bought my normal size and they have stretched out to be almost too big, but I wear them a lot. My only complaint is the insole is merely glued in and has come out several times and sometimes slips around in the shoe when I'm wearing it. There is not a lot of support, but is comparable to other flats like this.

These have been my go-to summer shoes for four summers. I have them in 4 colors but mainly wear the silver (pewter) ones. In four years I've gone through 5 or 6 pairs of the silver ones because the color rubs off very easily, leaving you with mottled silver-and-black shoes - my recommendation is to not drive in them, take them off before putting your feet up on anything, and generally try to minimize the friction they encounter. Also, please know that the insides of these shoes are the most lovely white color - until you wear them. Even if you wash your feet immediately before putting them on (as I do) you will soon have disgusting stains on the inside where dust and oils settle underfoot. Gosh, writing this all down makes me feel really foolish for buying so many pairs. But they really do make a wonderful "neutral" (but not boring) shoe for capri pants and rolled up jeans. Comfortable as long as you don't require arch support, and great to drive in as long as you don't mind the silver color rubbing off. The different colors are made from different leathers which each stretch in their own way but generally I find that a half size up from normal is most comfortable.

This shoe is super cute but I was also glad I ordered a half size up. There is no support -- they are like wearing slippers. I wish the shoe didn't have the dorky tag on the back.

You need to order at least half a size bigger on these. The toe area covers quite far up your foot,further than I expected. They are made from beautiful soft leather.

Cute - I like the rounder toe and higher cut but they run small! I ordered a 9 (my usual size) - too small. I ordered a 9.5 and they were still too small. I am not sure a 10 will even fit. Trying a different brand and style to see if I have better luck. I might come back to this shoe. I think it will be comfortable if I can just find the right size.

These are really cute shoes. I didn't read about them running smaller so had to return the 7-1/2 I usually wear and order an 8. I am still getting used to them, one of them is rubbing the back of my foot and I'm hoping it will stretch. If you are looking for any type of support at all you will not find it in this shoe, it is more like a slipper. I will not use for walking any distances. I actually have a pair of Jessica Simpson ballet flats I bought for half the price that are more comfortable.

I bought these based on all the great reviews and, overall, I'm happy with them. But I did want to add that it's true what some have said about the questionable quality of these shoes. Within a day or two, the insole did come unglued, as others have said, and tends to flop around and bunch up. Also, there is a very strong chemical smell that has yet to go away. It was headache-inducing the first couple of wearings and has mellowed a bit, but I can still smell it after having them for a couple of weeks and wearing them a lot. I would probably still recommend them, but a big factor in my purchase was the 100% good reviews, so I thought it would be good for people considering them to know that there are some flaws. Still a very cute shoe, though.

I love these shoes! They take a few wears to break in, and the process is not too bad then are very comfortable! Order half a size larger than your normal shoe size. I was a little disappointed that the insole lining came out after a few wears, but I just glued it back down. I had a zebra pair before this and did not have that problem. They are a great quality, very fashionable, and very comfortable! I recommend them to friends all the time!

I have never liked wearing flats much, but I have found these to be very wearable. They stay on very well, no slipping, and have room for the toes. My only complain is that there is pretty much no cushioning between your feet and the ground. I put an insole insert in and that helps. I really like the materials and these shoes feel very well made.

Fabulous flats! No need to break in, just slip on and go. Bought the pewter color - awesome with jeans or dress. So comfy. Do run a size small.

Love these shoes- super cute, great fit. They lose one star because the lining came up after just a few wears- this is very annoying.

I love these shoes. A little tight when I first wore them but they molded to my feet and were my go to shoe.

I bought this in 8.5 Black Napa because I didn't want to have to worry about getting the suede wet. I normally wear an 8.5 and these fit perfectly. I hope they don't stretch out too much. The only ballet flats that Ive had that I loved were by jeffrey campbell and they were from 2006. I like the french soles, the leather is really soft. Unlike the other flats, these come back slightly farther on my foot, covering all of my toes. THe only thing I don't like about these shoes is that my big toe pokes the top of the leather because it's so soft. I will live with it since they are so comfortable. They are about 20% old lady-ish. I'll set a reminder on my phone to update this review in six months and let you know if they stretched out too much.

Crinkly finish was not what I wanted. Fit was smaller than the 11 I ordered. All that said, it felt comfortable, and hip.

Fun, wear with anything shoe.

Super cute and flattering shoe!! However, I agree with many other reviewers in that (1) you need to go up half a size, and (2) the sole is not very substantial at all! The upper feels very well made, and the shoes were comfortable right out of the box, but I'm going to need a cushioning insert if I'm going to wear them for more than a couple of hours. There's almost nothing between you and the floor: no arch support, no cushioning. They are exactly what I wanted in terms of looks, and if these hold up I'll buy more, but beware, they are pricey for what you get.

I bought these in the black shiny leather and have worn them 3-4 times. They look cute on, and there's more toe coverage than many ballet flats, but they really do not have any arch support. The sole is thick enough so I don't feel every pebble, but I won't wear them for long walks or if I'll be standing for hours. They've stretched a bit but not to affect the fit. I'm not sure I think they are worth the price yet.

These ballet flats are really comfortable and nicely made. They do run a bit wide, however, so if you have a narrow foot, just keep that in mind. I may need to put a foot pad in them.

Excellent ballet flat. Love them so much I got them in black patent and the red suede. They do run small, so I went half a size up. They are very much like a real ballet shoe, so if you are looking for lots of cushion, padding, and arch support, this is not the shoe for you.

Cute and comfortable, but runs small. I wear a 6.5 or 7, ordered a 7, and returned it. It was "too perfect," and unless it stretched quite a bit, would be uncomfortable.

Beautiful metallic leather and leather lining is great (keeps feet cool and dry). Fits well on my narrow foot, nice cut (no toe cleavage but not too clunky). My only concern is how the shoe will hold up -- will the leather stretch? will the sole (which seems a bit flimsy) wear out quickly? I'll give them a try and look forward to good results and buying in more colors.

I was warned that the shoes run small. They do live up to that reputation. I am patiently waiting to break them in, good thing they are adorable.

I love these shoes! After reading other reviews, I bought them a half size larger than I normally wear, and they fit perfectly. I was a little worried about the heel being too big, since I have narrow heels, but they haven't slipped off once. I don't mind the thin sole much; you do feel the surface you're walking on, but it hasn't been painful for me, even on large gravel. Love these shoes!
