Customer Reviews French Sole Sloop

These are definitely fine and quality seems good, but there’s no realistic amount of stretching that would make these work for me. I also want to mention that there’s quite a bit more toebox coverage than I thought there would be. I get that this is kind of on-trend right now, but it just feels/looks purposefully unflattering to me.

I had my eye on these for a while and went back and forth on what size to choose. I decided to go up a half size to a 9 after reading the comments, I'm usually 8-8.5. The 9 was way too small when I put them on and I'm not sure if a 9.5 would have improved the fit. They looked really weird on my feet, I have normal feet not wide, not narrow, not fat...just normal and these shoes look so off and ugly. The top of the shoe went too far up the the top of the foot and did not look like a ballet flat on my feet.

So I was undecided about these shoes and had no idea what size to order after reading the reviews of size up or don’t size up because they’ll stretch. I went ahead and got the leopard print which is very cute. I have a slightly wider foot (by my toes but my heel is narrow) and these fit perfectly and look great on my feet. They were very snug at first and I almost sized up but I’m glad I didn’t because they stretched out quite a bit and now fit perfectly. My only issue with these, and it’s a big one, is that there is practically no sole on them. I get that it’s a flat, I wasn’t expecting a heel at all. However, it literally feels like I’m walking barefoot on the ground and since I live in an urban area this is often concrete. The sole is paper thin. I was expecting a little more for a $130 and I would have bought several more pairs had the sole not felt so flimsy and paper like. It’s great that it moves with my foot but I would be uncomfortable walking all day in these. I have many other pairs and brands of flats and have never had this problem. Had they just made it a bit thicker I would have stocked my closet full of these.

after trying the 7.5 and the 8, i got the 8.5 in 4 colors!! so you know i love the shoe. i agree the arch support is missing but it's not a problem for me.

Loved the look of this shoe and it is hard to find black patent flats. Like other reviews say these are snug but I can see where in time they will stretch out so don’t panic. I returned these though because there isn’t much support if any at all and I went with the Sam Edelman Rodney and it’s sassy style!! But these French Sole’s are a cute, true ballet flat with a crinkled type patent which is cute too! Just not much support at all!!

These are beautiful well-made shoes. However, as some reviewers pointed out, they are tight across the toe. I was sorry to have to return them.

They felt too tight at first but I wore them for about an hour and they molded to my feet and felt perfect. My only issue is after only 2.5 months of wear, the insoles detached from the bottom and slide around in the shoe, creating uncomfortable bumps in the footbed. I have removed them and resituated the insoles multiple times and they continue to slide around making the shoes uncomfortable. I purchased a pair of $15 Dr Scholl’s gel insoles, removed the French Sole insoles and slipped in the Dr. Scholl’s and now the shoes are wonderful once again. I do feel like the price of the shoes is a bit high to expect to have to invest additional money in new insoles. Also, I’m 39 years old and have never once had to buy insoles before so this is not a common issue for me to blow out shoes! :)

I normally wear a 9.5 and I ordered a 10 and I thought ordering up a half size would work, but should have listened to everyone and go a full size up. If I reorder I will go to an 11 these were that small, but exactly what I’m looking for. The toe area is round and I was looking for something with more width so hoping going up to an 11 will solve this! I wish they had more support in the footbed for this price! I love this crinkle patent so cute!

I read all the reviews and felt that going with my normal size would be a good fit. I wore a thin stocking to stretch them out for the first few days as recommended. The length was perfect but the width up around my upper foot was awkward, tight, and painful to wear. Also, I thought that the leather would be thicker and more supple but it's pretty thin and shapeless. Not what I had expected for this price point.

I read many, many reviews and thought, ok, it would be a mistake to order 1/2 or a full size up as many people did, only to find the shoe was too big once broken in, so I ordered my normal size 6. I could not even get my foot fully into the shoe! The toe box isn't narrow but extremely shallow. The top of the shoe cut into the top of my foot horribly. It's too bad, it's a very attractive shoe.

These shoes are cute but super small. I normally wear an 8.5 so ordered a 9. My toes touched the end of the shoe and my big toe was smashed to the side. Going to try a 9.5 but not too optimistic.

I wanted to love these shoes because of the beautiful leather and pretty pink color. I had read that the leather is so soft they adjust to your foot shape. I have wide feet and had that experience with another brand with soft leather, but it did not look like that would work with these even though I tried two sizes. The shoes came up too low on the sides of my feet to look good, and my big toe showed up in the top. There were ripples across the top because of the soft leather, and the shoes looked plain. There was very little cushioning from the sole and none in the footbed. Luckily, Zappos is great about returns!

These shoes are broken in the minute you put them on. Due to chemo treatments I have neuropathy in my feet. Many shoes are too stiff for me to wear. These shoes solve all of my problems. I can see myself living in these shoes!

The length felt short and my feet are too puffy on the top to wear these shoes - looked like I had foot-muffin-top. Probably a cute shoe for someone with less fleshy feet.

As others mention, these run a size small. The size 12 fit my size 11 feet perfectly. Very soft, buttery leather. However...because the footbed is totally flat, (not curved slightly upwards as in the pictures) the leather is pulled down over the top of the foot such that you can see the outlines of your toes. My big toe would undoubtedly wear a hole through the top of these in a month or two—so back they went.

I really like this shoe and have purchased it in quite a few colors over a span of about 13 years. I still have my original pair that I now just wear around the house. I am nit sure they will ever wear out!!! I learned some years ago to order 1/2 size larger as FS/NY tends to run small in length. I love the ballet pink color I just ordered. PERFECT! The leather is soooo soft.

These looked super casual, but didn’t fit my feet at all.

I loved these flats and was so sad when I had to toss my old pair (after 8 years of continuous use) that I went right back on to Zappos yesterday and ordered the same exact pair. I walked all through France and Spain (miles and miles... or rather, km and km) and they were so comfortable the whole time. I personally like the black patent leather - you can dress them up or down depending on what you wear with them. Love, love, love these flats!

I now own four pairs of the Sloop and here’s how it goes. They do feel a half size small initially but quickly stretch to fit your foot. The first two pairs I bought 4 years ago for comfort while traveling, and I bought 1/2 size larger than normal. Great strategy until they stretched out and they now bag and slop on my feet - but I still love and wear them. This time I ordered my too-snug actual size. It was a bold move as the cost isn’t cheap, but I read the reviews and drew on my own experience with the larger size. They are stretching to fit my feet quite nicely and I don’t regret the size change at all. Looking forward to more years with these beautiful comfort shoes!

I read the reviews and even went a full size larger (I am normally an 8, I ordered a 9) and it did not fit. I mean, I got my foot in but you could see my big toe. Yes, they are leather. Yes, they will stretch out with wear but I didn't even attempt walking around in them. I just put the back in the box to be returned.

The perfect basic flat with excellent construction. Quality craftsmanship. Quite comfy for no arch support. Slightly small- I will be exchanging for 1/2 size larger.

These are incredibly well made shoes; the craftsmanship and quality is evident. I had to return them, though, due to the size. I typically wear size 9.5. I ordered a size 10. I could barely squeeze my foot into them; I would say they fit like a 9 or 8.5.

I regret not catching the reviews telling me to order 1/2 a size larger- love the feel and quality, but will exchange for a larger size and update!

I wanted to love these but they cut into my foot from the moment I took them out of the box. I ordered a half size up, but the fit was so far off I decided it wasn’t worth reordering.
