Defective foot-bed. Had to return them. Twice. I had a pair of these exact shoes for more than a year and they were perfect. I wore them out. I ordered the exact same shoes and the foot bed on the inside is ridged so that it feels like you are walking on a group of pencils. If you take the liner out you can easily feel it. I ordered another pair and returned the first. The 2nd pair was worse. Same ridging in the for-foot area but also there was a large, rough ridge in the toe that felt like the footbed was somehow not placed all the way forward to the toe. Very disappointed. It appears that Keen has let their quality go right out the window.

These were too wide for me. I've always wanted to try a pair of Keens. I was pretty skeptical as it said to order a size up. The length was fine, but you could tell it was a size too big on the width. I exchanged them for another brand (Danner Trailtrek Light) and am very happy with them. Exchange process took about 30 minutes on the phone. Next time I'll probably just order a different shoe and return the ones I don't one without going through the exchange process.

Although I've been wearing these shoes for years, fiscally speaking they suck. I've had my new pair for two days and the rubber on the side of the shoe is already ripped. If I get three months out of Keens I'm lucky. They're comfy though. But if you work for a living and wear them on concrete expect them to wear out at a record pace.

*SOMETHING HAS CHANGED*. And not for the better!
I just received my third (maybe fourth?) pair of Keen Targhee shoes, and at _least_ 10th pair of Keens overall. Previously, the arch support they provide has been the *only* brand that relieved my plantar fasciitus, sciatica, and lower back pain. I'm a _really_ tall guy who has always had these problems, and finding Keens was like getting a miracle performed.
With my current pair of Targhees starting to wear out, I thought nothing of ordering another pair.
The insole is *completely* different. The support has changed, the mid-point of the foot is squeezed on both sides, rather just than having terrific arch support, and they're, well, just downright uncomfortable.
I'm actually a bit freaked out right now: If they've changed across the entire line, I could be headed back to chronic pain and misery once my last current pair wears out, but that's not Zappos's problem!
I'll probably keep them, if only to wear them to see if I have to find another brand of shoes. Others have noted quality slipping: I can't speak to that yet, but I would not be surprised to learn that there have been general changes, to the great detriment of the (formerly?) great brand.
Really, really disappointed. It's still a nice shoe, and will likely work for most, but it is certainly not the shoe they made a year or two ago, and should REALLY have a different model name.
Zappos is awesome (though perhaps they should add a note to the description that the shoe design has been changed), of course! Won't shop anywhere else!

Loved the shoe, however.... In less than one month and 4 wears one of the loops that holds the lace broke. I am very easy on my shoes and keep them for a long time so this was a disappointment. I will not purchase shoes with loops for the lacing again. I will hold out for regular eyelets.

Same complaint as I've seen in other reviews - too much room in the heel . . . feels like I could walk out of the shoe. Also doesn't have that little triangle and exclamation point thing on the toe protector that I think is cool. I'm sending it back.

Nothing like my previous pair of Targhees, which were well-made and lasted a long time. These were skimpier all around -- pieces of leather were smaller, seams were showing, and the tongue was crudely attached to the body of the shoe. (In the prior pair this had been sewn and then turned inside-out -- so none of the the sewing (and fraying) showed. In this it was already a mess.)
Too bad, Keen, you may be going the way of other brands :(

Great looking shoes but I should have sent them back. I needed work shoes immediately however. They were a little tight out of the box but I figured they would stretch out as several of the reviews I read stated. It has been a few weeks now and they have not stretched out making long term wear very uncomfortable. They seem quite stiff as well. I work in the construction industry and am on my feet most of the day and I can't wait to get in my truck at the end each day and put on my flip-flops. I am sure the Keens are nice boots but not for people with wide feet. This was my first purchase of footwear via the mail and most likely my last. I had a gift certificate for zappos so this mistake did not cost me much but makes for long days on the feet. The price I paid via Zappos was the same as my local REI and other shoe stores so no advantage ordering online. Again, this is my fault and mail order shoe shopping is for some people just not me. Thank you.

This latest purchase has been my third one for Keen Targhee II shoes. I chose this Keen shoe because of Keen's large toe box. Once I break them in, they're comfortable. Seam behind the heel separates and eats away at my socks, prematurely putting a hole in my socks. Drives me nuts. I place a large patch of "mole skin" back there, but it's disappointing that I have to do that. And I've had to do that with every pair that I've bought. Also, the sole wears out faster than I think it should. Yes, I'd buy this shoe again, but only because I don't want to research and select a different shoe all over again.

hope a keen rep reads these posts! Keen, please take heed: because you don't make a 12.5, and because all of your footwear runs a half size small, you are alienating everyone who is a true size 12, myself included. every model I've tried, the 12 is too small, and the 13 is too big and causes heel slippage. Size 12 is such a common size among men, and I know dozens of people who cannot wear your shoes because of this sizing issue. Please, consider making a 12.5, or begin making your shoes more true to size. You are missing out on a huge portion of the male population who would like to wear your shoes!

I've owned two pairs of Keen Targhees. They are comfortable right out of the box and make for enjoyable hiking. However both pairs have suffered from quick deterioration of the fabric and soles separating from the body of the shoe. Basically these both became 1-season shoes. One pair was sent back to Zappos (who offered excellent return service even after extensive wearing) after nearly a year when both soles separated from the uppers, and the current pair has now been worn 2 seasons. I will wear them out within the next summer season and will need to replace them. I would love to buy Keen replacements again (I have other Keen oxfords that are still great shoes after 5 years), but these don't seem to hold up. Nice looking and comfortable, but maybe too much emphasis on looks rather than reliability.

I'm returning these because the fit is extremely loose. The laces don't come very far up my feet and I cannot tie them tight enough to make them comfortable.

Much better shoes out there. Everyone is right that you must order 1/2 size larger, BUT I've never felt more relief taking these things off after only a day. I owned at least 15 pair of low-top hikers as well as 6 or more full leather backpacking uppers and these Targhee II\'s leave a lot to be desired. 1) Should create a tongue wide enough for the gap (and my feet are on the narrow side). 2) How about another set of eyelets (or two). 3) The inserts need to be much better. 4) Skip this "Keen.Dry" and just find a real Gore-tex shoe. I was very sweaty in these shoes (unlike my Gore-tex Cabelas).I picked these because the construction looked good and seems to be solid... but again there are much better shoes out there for a low-top hiker.

This is a very stiff shoe. After a week of wear there is little flexibility. The lacing does not reach high enough to hold the shoe in place; another set of eyes would make the shoe feel more secure. Would not recommend these for hiking.

I got these shoes today, and took me about 5 minutes to realize that the fit is horrible. They are way too wide, and they feel real loose around the heel. Plus, the upper could be a lot nicer. For the price, stay away.

I have had two pairs of these. The first was replaced when, after about a week, a lace loop blew out. The second is failing prematurely due to delamination of the toe cap. Otherwise, the shoes are very comfortable.

5 months to the date with very moderate use. Walking on sidewalks and indoors and the sole is falling off. How would these ever stand up to actual hiking?

Size 13 was too small. There was no option of size 13.5. Size 14 was too big. Sounds like Goldie Locks!

These were awful for tendonitis in my left leg. Something about the footbed and what imprint it forced my foot into. It took a while to notice it was the shoes, but the pain and inability to walk for very long began to subside whenever I stopped wearing these Keens. Could be an idiosyncratic experience, but I've never had that problem with any other shoes! I won't risk the expensive of buying Keens again.

These aren't the right shoes! The shoe I got has all sorts of keen branding on it. The shoe pictured here only has one place where it visibly says "Keen" on the heel. The shoe I got has a huge label on the side and on the tongue. The finger loop on the tongue is replaced with a label. If I wanted big labels I would buy a pair of Nikes. I returned 1 pair hoping it was a mix up, but the second pair arrived wrong too. Very disappointed! Sending back. I've been wearing keen shoes for 5 or 6 years, but never again!

my 1st pair of keens and i'm super disappointed. the heel box is huge! your feet heel will slide around. making for a really weird fit. i dont know why a shoe would be designed like this, thats actually dangerous. if it wasnt for the wide heel, these would be excellent fits. Thanks God for zappos return policy.

After many years and pairs of Keens, I have to say the change in the last in the Voyageurs and Targhees makes them unwearable for me. Both too wide and too short at the same time.

I ordered three pairs of these- one low cut and two mid ankle cut all size 11 when normal for me is 10 1/2 and my toes hit the end no matter how tight I laced them. I ordered another pair in 11 1/2 and it was the same problem. I really like the style of the shoes but for me they are cut strange. I think the arch support is not high enough to hold my foot back. I don't think I have flat feet. I ordered a pair of the Salomons and they fit fine so I kept them and sent the Keens back. I love Zappos return policy! No questions asked. A great company to buy from.
