I hike about 12 miles a week in the Cascades and wear Keens for my every day wear around town. I hike in Vasque boots, which are more than Keens. I am a woman with very wide feet, but not long feet, so I've found good luck with a men's hiking boot. I ordered the Keen Targhee as a backup for the Vasque, which is of hugely superior quality as a hiking boot and for fit. Having said that, for a walking shoe (leggings, cute Mountain Hardware Tee, small pack) it is a great look...but it is not of the quality or construction of the better hiking boots out there. With Vasque you get metal eyelets, not just canvas for the laces to thread through. Also, the width on the men's is not the same as the width on Vasque. I wear a 7.5 womans EEE, and do well with a 7 M in a men's. In this respect Keen was true to size...a 7.5 (I ordered up, like everyone said to do) was too big. I cannot wear my heavy wigwam socks with this shoe...just smart wool or other thinner hiking socks. So I will keep them for walking around Europe, where a good hiking shoe is preferable to other kinds of shoes...but this shoe will not give me the 7 years of performance I got from Vasque...so I got a pair of those as well.

These boots are warm and comfortable and aren't bulky like so many boots. The only negative is the laces. They're round and come undone easily unless double knotted. I don't get why rope-style laces are used in footwear.

I normally wear the more breathable Keen Alamosa boot, which I rate all 5 stars. Bought this waterproof Targhee mid to take on a upcoming hike to the Philippines. Fit, grip and "look" are all good. However, it would be much improved if it had two quick lace hooks at the top (like the Alamosa) instead of just the one. This flaw makes the boot less secure and causes the lacing to ride too high (over the boot) on steep ascents/descents.

If the top hook is too high therefore lets the lace ride over the tongue take the lace over the top of the hook and under before crossing this should help you gain the needed quarter inch to keep the lace on the tongue.

This is the second pair of Targhee boots I ordered for the fella. He has a high instep and wider than normal feet and so I ordered up 1/2 a size like the last time. The first pair fit him well right away and he nearly wore them out. He's into his 3rd week of wearing the second pair in the same size and they hurt his feet. As with the women's Keens, if they fit, they are great. If they are too narrow, they hurt a lot. The trouble is that the width is inconsistent with Keen. Apparently this is true for the men as well.

Great boot. Fits well, plenty of toe room and good support all around. I have one major problem though. On no website I've looked on, including Keen's are these boots listed as being insulated. However, the pair I recently receive (not from Zappos) are clearly labeled on the back of the box as having Keen.Warm insulation. They are extremely warm, which is a shame since I was planning to use them as an all weather boot. Maybe something has changed recently in how they are made because I have seen no one mention insulation before. Regardless, they will serve well this winter but would kill my feet in warmer weather.

Very comfortable, well fitting hiking boot. The hooks for the shoe strings on the top of the boot keep the strings in place even when untied. Totally satisfied with these boots.

Very comfortable. I buy men's shoes because my feet are wide and I have had two bunion surgeries. Taking a little more breaking in time than I hoped, but for boots, they're great. The problem is probably me, have to wear socks and I hate socks!

Bought these for my son, so I am not wearing them myself. He has said they fit perfectly and that they are comfortable - just what he wanted.

Not as warm as I'd like. Also, when wearing thick socks - the shoe is tight across the bridge of the foot. I do like the quick lace feature.

These have been great. I'm a pretty picky shoe buyer and these work really well for me. Light, warm, comfortable and they don't squeak on the floors in my office building... a big plus! And, for a change, my wife didn't make fun of me for how they look.

Great shoe, second pair. I wear them daily for work in all conditions. They are best as winter shoes - hot in the summer.

Very nice light boot. I like Keens because they fit me so well. It appears to be well constructed, but I\'ll know more in a few weeks\/months.

As with other Keens I've owned, these boots were comfortable for extended wear directly out of the box. I've been wearing them now for about a solid month and they seem to be holding up nicely (I'm notoriously hard on shoes). I've had other Keens that had sole separation issues, but I don't see any sign of separation on these, at least thus far. I don't find that they breath much, so I wouldn't recommend them very highly for hot weather wear/hiking. Bottom line and not my favorite or the most comfortable Keen shoe I've ever owned, but I still consider the Targhee's to be a good boot for working and light hiking and would definitely consider buying again.

These are great shoes, but Keen's sizing is a bit off on them. I bought my regular size only to return them for 1/2 size bigger which fit. Zappos makes this easy and the reviews on Zappos and elsewhere support this, but it's quite odd because I have other Keen brand shoes that fit me in my regular size.

This shoe is very comfortable and fits just a bit wider in the toes than most. I would normally buy a EE wide, but really didn\'t need to with this shoe. The arch support is great, the insole fits perfectly and I don\'t feel the laces squeezing the top of my foot. The only thing I don\'t like about this shoe is the heel keeps slipping. I\'m sure some of this will go away once the shoe gets broken in, but it is really noticeable right now. I will update the review once I\'ve broken these in.

Order a half size to whole size larger than you normally would wear. These are very comfortable right out of the box. The large toe box is great for wide toes and a normal width foot. They do wear out fast. You can expect to get less than a year out of a pair.

Light and comfortable. Do not seem all that durable. I think they would be good for everyday use, but I would not take them on the trail.

I used these boots to hike to the top of 18 mountain peaks in the western US this summer. The good points are: 1. They are very comfortable right out of the box. 2. The sole supplies good traction under a wide variety of conditions. 3. Waterproofing is quite effective, no leaks. 4. Wide toe box minimizes toe blisters. The not so good points are: 1. The sole will separate from the shoe with hard use (such as backpacking, mountain climbing). This is a common complaint with this boot. 2. The sizing is a little off. You need to order one size larger than normal size. 3. The shoelaces supplied are a bit on the short side and are not very durable. They will fray where they go through the hooks. All in all, I really like this boot, if only Keen could find a better method of gluing the sole so that it won't separate from the shoe.

Great shoe -
After Zappos' typically quick delivery, I wore these shoes to the office for a few days to break them in, and then put about 10 miles on them on a very icy trail that weekend. Comfort was great with minimal break-in and they provided as much traction as you can expect without crampons. The width of my feet is what determines the size shoe I wear. Luckily these accommodate the extra width because they felt a bit small. I usually wear a 10.5 (which is what I ordered) and have extra room in the toe. The width was fine and I was pleased to see that I didn't have an extra inch of shoe out in front of my toes! If your feet are longer rather than wide, you might need to order half a size up.

Keen Targhee II Mid -
The shoes out of the box are good to fit and strap up comfortably. For cold weather the boots are not well insulated but I’m not sure if these are built for the cold. The boot stays relatively dry on the inside with a few inches of snow on the ground or cutting thru a rain puddle. These are my third pair of Keen boots and this model is just as good as the others.

Good for wide feet -
I originally bought a half size larger than I normally wear (after reading the reviews), but I had to send them back because they were too big. I ended up buying my regular size. The shoes are very wide which is good for my feet. I hiked in Sedona for 3 days and did not break them in before hand. They were great. I wish there was a little more padding on the bottom of the ball of the foot. Otherwise, I loved the shoes. As usual, Zappos was great and prompt.

Targhee II Mid -
Light weight, great traction & requires very little break in. Moderate ankle & arch support. Looks great!! Perfect for light hiking and casual wear. Just what I was looking for. Tread, toe-cap & lacing system are best features (next to appearance).

Nice boot, but tight -
I love my Keen sandals, and tried this boot. They seemed really tight. I usually wear an 8, and I tried an 8 1/2 and 9, but returned them. I found the part around the ankle uncomfortable. I went with the Keen Newport hiking shoe. Maybe I'm just not used to the ankle support of a hiking boot.
