I just recently purchased a new pair of these having owned my last pair for ten years. Very comfortable, great timeless look, built to last. If I'm not wearing my Keens during the summer these are the sandals to wear.

Love this shoe! Incredible support especially walking on asphalt and city sidewalks. Impeccable quality. I own 3 pairs (bought 1 size to wear without socks and then a size larger to wear with socks for year round comfort). Would love for Mephisto to make more styles of this shoe with this 4 point shock absorption bottom.

I had a brown pair of the Mephisto Sam and could not resist the comfort of the sandal. I wear both pair whenever given the chance.

Bought these for my husband who has a very hard time shoe shopping. I can\'t believe they fit perfect and he loves them.

Good quality

Gorgeous and well built but finding the strap with a hole on the outside of ankle is rough. This detail is almost a dealbreaker.

The center toe strap rubbed my big toes when walking--just a little too short, but next size up would have been too large. Nice leather and comfortable insoles.

Wonderfully comfortable, but the buckle is too difficult for Hubby to fasten, so we will try a different shoe.

I have been wearing pair after pair of these sandals in both black and brown for many years. But when the latest pair arrived, I was appalled! The leather Mephisto is now using is about on third the thickness of previous leather. A weakness of this style is that the back strap often breaks in time which is why I've had several pairs in each color. My guess is that this new thin leather will break even more quickly and easily. Buyer beware. Don't say you weren't warned.

I've purchased dozens of shoes from Zappo. Every transaction has been excellent. This is a well made shoes but it does not support the feet well due to extremely flexible leather. Craftsmanship is above average, but not the quality and appearance is par and over priced.

The buckles are cheap metal that broke within a month. For footwear this expensive that is horrible!

This is my 3rd pair in 10+ years and it's the first time I've been disappointed with Mephisto. I've always bought a size 12 and have been happy. Unfortunately, this time they feel way to big and are not comfortable.

Had wonderful previous experience with this same brand/sandal but this pair lost any sense of padding and comfort within months.

Inelegant clodhoppers with far too much arch support for anyone with human feet. Styling for socks-and-sandals types. Send these Mephistos back to hell.

The most comfortable footwear I have ever owned. No flaws. Enjoy wearing them either with socks or without.

My husband loves Mephisto shoes and he had a pair of these that he wore long enough to have them resoled. But now he wears orthotics and the insole of these cannot be swapped for custom orthotics so they no longer work for him. I'd thought I'd share this fact here as most Mephisto shoes do have an insole that can be taken out and replaced with a custom orthotic.

I walk in these, and they are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. Worth every penny they cost. On my second pair. The quality of leather is top notch.

Okay, I'm an outlier here -- a 77-year-old woman with narrow, arthritic feet. I am on my third pair of Sams and I intend to keep wearing them until I can no longer walk. For reasons of aesthetics and foot architecture, I can't wear open-toe sandals, and these provide the perfect combination of coverage and air. I just came back from a two-mile walk on New York City's concrete streets. In sneakers or any of my many "comfort" shoes, I'd be suffering forefoot and hip pain. In these, I'm fine. They are a bit wide, and I wish Mephisto would make them on a narrower women's last, but no problem, really. And they get bonus points for looking good with skirts and dresses (sorry, guys).

Distinctive look, remarkable cushioning and once these are on your feet it is clear you are wearing a high end sandal. Glad I spent the money to own these.

This is my second pair as I had previously purchased the Sam in the dark brown. Without a doubt the most comfortable shoes I have ever put on my feet. If you wear them without socks, you may want to go down a size.

I have owned this pair of Mephisto's for over ten years and approximately 4 years ago took it back to the Mephisto store to have them replace the sole and generally clean them up. These are my 'go to' sandals for all my travels/vacations and they are casually enough to wear without socks with any pair of shorts or even with casual summer pants at night (with or without socks). I have found that these sandals (along with my other pair of Mephisto Sagun's) are by far the most comfortable and versatile pair of summer sandals ever owned. They do need regular care/polishing, especially at the toe, but well worth it. Even though the price is high, at the end of the day, considering how long and how often I wear these I could easily argue that they are cheaper then anything else I have worn.
