Great sandals! Fairly comfortable right out of the box, but really comfortable after you break them in for several days. These look great and the leather is high quality. They are expensive but will be worth it if they last and wear well.

The Sam is everything a sandal should be. I have worn them in every kind of condition and travel and they have excelled. The footbed actually breathes, stays dry and provides comfort and support. Classic fisherman style that works well with shorts, casual pants and jeans and even slacks in a casual setting. Toe box is full but not too much. I think true to size is the way to go. Pricey but well worth the money.

Usually wear 15, but 14 fit perfectly. High quality materials and construction are costly but pay off in comfort of this shoe.

Most comfortable sandals I've ever worn. Had them two days now, constant wear. I wear a 7.5, after reading comments I bought a 7.0 (EUR 41). If they had a 6.5 that would have been perfect sizing is definitely larger than the number would indicate. The only thing I would prefer is a quick clip or velcro rather than the buckle. A bit more arch support would not be amiss.

Sams - Heaven on my feet

Great look and feel. This is a very sturdy sandal with excellent holding properties. I would very much caution that I ordered a size SMALLER than I usually buy because of other's comments about Mephisto sizing. They fit perfectly well, even though they say they're a full size smaller(9) than I usually wear(10). I would have preferred a velcro closure, as in some of the Teva sandals, for a better fit instead of the buckle, but they do fit well and are very comfortable to wear.

The Mephisto Sam sandals have been an excellent purchase. Although they are not cheap, I believe they are worth every penny. Sizing is true to size, the straps provide a perfect fit and excellent support, and the comfort is just great with well-cushioned soles that absorb shocks perfectly. I've worn my previous pair for years, and wear these day in day out for about 4 miles everyday, with and without socks. Additionally, the stylish design is a plus, they are versatile enough for both casual and slightly formal occassions. Bottomline, these sandals make me happy and are an investment you won't regret!

The Mephisto Sam sandals have been a fantastic purchase. While they’re not the cheapest option, I truly believe they’re worth every penny. They fit true to size, with straps that offer a snug fit and outstanding support. The comfort level is exceptional, thanks to the cushioned soles that absorb impact beautifully. My last pair lasted me for years, and I now wear these daily, covering about 5 miles each day, both with and without socks. Plus, their stylish design makes them versatile enough for casual wear and even semi-formal occasions. Overall, these sandals bring me a lot of satisfaction—an investment I’d recommend to anyone!

Felt a half size larger. Great soft textured leather sandal. Great style. Nice dark gray footbed matching the black leather allowing for black sock wear or not. My reason for return, unfortunately, is that the arch isn't in the right place for my foot.

I love this sandal. I ordered in black and tan. Zappos sent dark brown instead of tan three times, I gave up. The support staff are wonderful.

This shoe is one size smaller than the normal size. It feels great.

These are my husband's favorite sandal. He was so happy to find them at Zappos as our local retailer no longer carried them.

If you like traditional "fisherman's" sandals, as I do, these are very nice. Expensive, but all Mephisto's are. In the past I have not found their shoes to be comfortable. Too narrow around the toes. But, these sandals are fairly unstructured above the foot bed, which allows for roominess and good ventilation. The leather is excellent quality. The foot bed itself is of a composite material which takes some getting used to if you wear them without socks. Excellent arch support. On the whole, very comfortable and stylish. Hopefully they will last many summers.

I had favorite shoes that Keen made in leather for some years. The quality was uneven, so about half the shoes fell apart, but it was worth it for the half that held together. Unfortunately, these are not available anywhere now. So, I am (was) in the market for go-to everyday sandals that I could still wear to a laid back office. I was really wary of these - it just seems like a lot of money for sandals. But after plowing through a bunch that were OK for the first three wears and then ended up in the trash, I went in for the Mephistos. As expected, they are really comfortable. I did have a slight rubbing spot on the top, but only if I left them loose. Which I do, because buckling and unbuckling shoes is a pain. One of the reasons that I held off is that the pictures here make the leather look really cheesy. It does have, from my perspective, too much of a sheen, but it is much more attractive in person. Also, the logo (which I was worried that I would have to take a Sharpie to, as I have with other shoes that treat my feet as ad space) is not nearly as high contrast as the photos suggest. Finally, I generally wear a wide, and was concerned by the lack of a wide. I need not have been. These worked out fine for me. In sum, so far I am very happy. If these were cheaper, I would be happier, but oh well.

This is an excellent sandal, well worth the price. I usually need to order extra wide, not necessary, perfect fit. Sturdy, stylish.

Bought the black and it is a comfortable sandal. Have a medium to wide foot and usually wear a 10.5. Sized down to 10 and perfect fit. Plan to wear them on 2-week trip to Europe.

Okay, people, I'm way too practical to ever want to spend this much for a pair of sandals. I mean, seriously? Granted, my last pair of Borns would consistently leave a huge bloody gash where the toe post rubbed against the top of my foot, making that pair of sandals terribly painful after about a half hour of wear. Did I say I'm practical? I held on to them for oh, about 5 years, especially since they were a gift from my thoughtful wife. After walking my feet into bloody chafe-misery this last Independence Day on the way to the Stadium of Fire celebration in Provo, I said enough, and found the Mephisto Sams online. And now that I've worn them for a couple of weeks, I can state with no uncertainty whatsoever that these are absolutely heavenly! My new definition of practical now includes the Mephisto Sam, if you're looking to hit a home run in the sandal department. They not only feel 100% comfortable, but don't sweat badly (I live in the high desert), look just as great with a pair of khakis as a pair of old shorts, and are just the right combination of class, casual and practicality. Never thought I'd pay this much for a pair of sandals, but after this experience, my eyes are wide open. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

You get what you pay for. These shoes are expensive but worth the cost. They are well constructed and they look great. I wear them from the pool to the nicest restaurants at beach resorts. Many restaurants do not allow sandals (because of open toes). That is no,problem with these because of the way they are constructed (your toes do not show).

The sandal is comfortable and high quality. I needed a size that was in between 2 available sizes. I 1st tried the smaller size, but exchanged it for the larger. I wish I could have gotten the exact size I needed.

Super comfortable. I lived in these shoes for the three years I owned them. What? Only three years? Yes, because although the upper part is great, the company has evidently moved from rubber to vinyl soles and so they split after a short time. A shoe repairman in my city told me that when this happens it is irreparable (although I repaired it with electrical tape for as long as my wife would allow). So, I'd avoid spending a mint on these shoes and look for something more durable.

About ten years ago I bought these Mephisto Sandals. I loved them and wore them out in about 4 years. I had forgotten about them until I saw the sandals on Zappos. I then remembered how much I liked them so I bought another pair a few weeks ago. The Mephisto Sam sandal is not showy and has no Bling. It simply is the most comfortable and best made sandal you can buy at any price. Zappos is magical because I order from them on one day and get their delivery the next. If only our United States Postal Service could be as great as Zappos in their deliveries? Best sandals plus the best delivery equals the best of everything!

Long time wearer of Mephisto shoes, first time wearer of the sandal. Very comfortable.

I wear a lot of Mephisto shoes to work, but these were my first really casual pair. I have found them comfortable to wear on non-work days. The bottom line is that these shoes deliver the quality that I have come to anticipate from Mephisto.

I would buy Mephisto Sam again & again. Comfortable shoes, great support and nice look. I can walk in them for miles with no problems. I definitely recommend these shoes to anyone who is looking for quality, comfort, and style.
